Coast Guard members often take part in life-saving operations. On Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued two male boaters and their dogs.

The men had been in a 55-foot long fishing boat that was taking on water. The vessel was about 70 or so miles off of Great Inagua, located in the Bahamas.

The boaters were in a dire situation, as not only was the vessel filling with water, but it had also lost all steering and electronics.

A Coast Guard MH 60 Jayhawk helicopter out of Clearwater, Florida was dispatched to the scene after the boat called ‘Island Cruiser’ called for assistance . The crew supplied a pump to the men, but they had no luck in getting their boat functional.

Coast Guard officials had no other options. They hoisted both men and their two dogs out of the fishing vessel and into the chopper. The helicopter then brought them back to Matthew town on Great Inagua.

Fortunately no human or animal injuries were reported.
