Police in Bali are questioning two alleged suspects in connection to the murder of an American tourist, whose body was found inside a suitcase. She has been identified as 62-year-old Sheila von Weise Mack.

Her remains were discovered Tuesday when the suitcase was found in the trunk of a taxi that was parked outside the Saint Regis Bali luxury resort. Police launched an investigation right away and located the victim’s daughter, Heather and her boyfriend, Tommy Schaeffer.

The couple was staying at another hotel about 6 miles away from where the body was discovered. The pair told investigators they had been removed from the resort by an armed gang who killed Mack.

They claimed to have escaped with their lives, however hotel staffers and the taxi driver had different accounts. Surveillance footage from a hotel lobby shows the victim arguing with Schaeffer the night before she was found in the suitcase.

Police say Mack was beaten to death, but the investigation is ongoing to determine if the killing was ‘premeditated or spontaneous.’ A neighbor confirmed Mack lived in Oak Park, Illinois before moving to Chicago.

Prior to relocating last year, police were called to the Oak Park residence to settle violent fights that had broken out between the victim and her daughter.
