The 12-year-old girl in Wisconsin was stabbed by classmates, who reportedly tried to kill her so they could get in the good graces of the fictional and sinister character called ‘slender man’.
Now the stabbing survivor and her family have been spending their time reading cards and opening packages from kind strangers. One of the cards delivered to the family contained the military purple heart.
The anonymous writer noted ‘The only heart I could find -- be strong.’ Purple hearts are given to military members who were wounded serving the country or to the family members of those who died during battle.
A spokesperson for the family, Stephen Lyons remarked “The gift really resonates with the family because they are still dealing with wounds, emotionally and physically, from the events of May 31.”
The victim and her loved ones are thankful for all the gifts that have been sent their way following the traumatic ordeal. They’re also grateful to their supporters who have donated money to the ’Hearts for Healing’ campaign which was set up to help pay for the girl’s medical expenses.
