For a TV host, Jimmy Fallon doesn’t spend a whole lot of time talking… at least in comparison to his predecessors, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson. Ever since Fallon took the main seat of The Tonight Show, the program’s talk segments with guests have been cut back quite a bit.

With Fallon at the helm, the show has engaged in "talk," or interviews with guests, 37 percent of the time. When Leno was in the host seat, the chat percentage was at 51. Leno's predecessor, Johnny Carson was also at the 51 percent talk mark.

The remainder of show's time is focused on music and comedy segments. Fallon reportedly uses 23 percent of the program’s allotted time on comedy, while 14 percent is typically reserved for music.

Both of those numbers are much higher than before, however, some things have remained the same. Just like Leno, Fallon spends 21 percent of his time on monologue, which isn’t included in the "talk" part of the show.
