The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has inserted some creative sexual innuendoes in a series of ads that will hopefully urge people to conserve water.

In some not-so-subtle provocative comments, the voice says slogans like ‘Make it a quickie’ pertaining to shower time and ‘Get paid for doing it’. That comment reflects replacing an old toilet to save water.

The problem with conserving water is that many residents aren’t exactly ecstatic about the topic. So the question is how do you get the goal across in a fun, attention-grabbing way? The answer – make it fun and memorable.

And in this case, the simplistic images of toilets, fixtures and water definitely aren’t considered sexy so that aspect has to come elsewhere.

SFPUC Communications manager Charles Sheehan remarked “To create these ads, we ask ourselves how we can get this message across to the general public and to businesses without people rolling their eyes and everyone falling asleep.”
