The couple is suing comedian Roseanne Barr. The dispute between the Zimmerman’s and Barr dates back to 2012. It was then that Barr posted a tweet with the couple’s complete address.
At the time of her tweet 2 years ago, the investigation into the shooting of Trayvon Benjamin Martin was in full swing with emotions running high. Zimmerman had not yet been arrested and many people did not believe he shot Martin in self defense during their confrontation.
Once the family’s address was posted on Twitter, Robert and Gladys Zimmerman said they were forced to go into hiding. In the lawsuit against Barr, they are asking for $37,400 for meal, hotel and laundry expenses incurred by leaving their home.
They are also seeking 600 grand for emotional distress. Barr’s attorneys vow to fight, and say she shouldn’t have to pay anything because the Zimmerman address was already on public record. It was also pointed out Barr deleted the post shortly after it first appeared on Twitter.
