A program from Gelle.s Corner archives :-
This program is about promoting the importance of building creative capacity and Arts education for the immigrant student – Our guest is the Iraqi artist Amer El-matar – The interview is in Danish with short introduction in Somali.

When I went to the local public school in Somalia, creative and art subjects were part of the school curriculum and a way to advance education from a passive institution and for the pupils to develop essential learning and life skills.
Nowadays Many immigrant students have difficulty unlocking their creative potential due to restrictions or prejudice against creative subjects - Using music, dance, spoken word poetry, and visual arts was meant to teach students critical thinking, communication and collaboration, and creativity.
Many immigrants hail from countries rich in cross-cultural and artistic history. However, art is not taken seriously in my household. The reason is that many parents prefer their kids spending more time working on subjects like math and science and less time on drawing and writing stories, some even claiming that creative subjects are immoral and against the teachings of Islam.
I believe that the dynamic nature of visual arts and storytelling can help people overcome the heart-wrenching challenges of isolation, suffering, extreme impoverishment and even loss of identity.
