In the Pacific Northwest region of the US, where the winters are cloudy, there are some establishments that use sun lamps, or colored lighting to enhance the mood and ambiance.

Lightbar in Portland, Oregon has sun lamps in some of their booths that can be used by customers while they enjoy music and cocktails.

The owner of Lightbar used to suffer from SAD, and came up with the idea for the bar after the light from a sun lamp helped treat his condition.

Another café in Seattle, Washington started using sun lamps after hearing about Lightbar.

Doctor Michael Terman, professor of psychiatry at Columbia University and the author of the book "Reset Your Inner Clock,” said the intensity of the light reaching the person’s eyes, how long they use a sun lamp, and the timing of the exposure to light all play a role in the effectiveness of light therapy.
