Chicago Infant Died in Unheated Apartment

On December 11th, local firefighters removed a deceased baby from an apartment structure. The seven-month-old baby girl had been placed in a car seat, bundled in a snowsuit and blankets because there was no heat in the residence.
A mother in Chicago is now the focus of police questioning. On December 11th, local firefighters removed a baby from an apartment building at 3729 W. 13th Street. The infant was dead.
The seven-month-old baby girl had been placed in a car seat, bundled in a snowsuit and blankets because there was no heat in the residence. A neighbor found the child after one of her young siblings mentioned that they had been left home alone and that there was no food in the house.
The neighbor walked into the home and quickly called emergency operators. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the baby to Mt. Sinai Hospital but it was too late. The child was pronounced dead immediately.
Two other children from the apartment, the infant’s siblings, a 2-year-old and 6-year-old were also taken to the hospital but they appeared to be fine. Although initial reports claimed the baby froze to death, the Cook County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause.
Police launched an investigation into the death and have since located the mother to determine the circumstances of what happened.
