Endangered Rhino Hunting Permit Being Auctioned by Texas Club

Resolute in their belief that they’re helping save endangered black rhinos, the Dallas Safari Club is auctioning off a permit to travel to Namibia and shoot one.

The killing, they say, will help weed the herd of one of its weak and what they call “counterproductive” members.

Plus, the club promises that all of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to benefit the animal’s preservation.

It’s estimated that the auction lot could bring in up to 1 million dollars.

In recent years, the demand for rhino horns in parts of Asia has resulted in record poaching and the rapid depletion of herds.

Each year the government of Namibia issues only 5 permits for the export of hunter-slain animals.

The import of trophy rhino carcasses into the US is forbidden, and it remains unknown if there will be an exception granted in the case of the auction winner.

Many wildlife experts have come forward to point out that the Safari Club’s plan is rife with flawed logic.

It’s also been questioned why the club, presumably full of multimillionaires, doesn’t just make a big, non-lethal donation to the preservation cause.
