00:00 Like every year, Milan-Sanremo brings with it a gentle feeling of spring,
00:04 a light wind hiding the tension for the much desired victory.
00:08 A competition marked by unpredictability.
00:11 Vamos! First monument of the season.
00:13 It's a super special race along the coast.
00:16 I mean, the beautiful race we have here in Italy.
00:20 Yeah, this is what I'm dreaming of when I start cycling.
00:24 I swear that when you're a little kid,
00:26 it's the first big race you watch on TV.
00:28 It's hard to really put into words the emotions that I have
00:30 when I get to the start line of Milan-Sanremo.
00:32 It's like no other race for me.
00:34 Chipresa and Poggio in the end,
00:36 so I think it's one of the most beautiful races to win.
00:38 I'm so excited to imagine what it means to win
00:41 and play a Monument in Italy.
00:43 The last part of the race, 30, 40, 50 kilometers,
00:48 are definitely the craziest finals of the year.
00:53 I'll bet that I want Sanremo, I think, very badly.
00:57 It would be one of my dreams.
00:59 Yeah, I think I would give away most of my wins for this.
01:04 Once the spotlights are on, anything can happen,
01:07 just like on the stage of a great show.
01:09 Everybody wants to win at the starting gate.
01:12 The excitement in the air mingles with the broken breath of the riders,
01:24 ready to shout for joy across the finish line on Via Roma.
01:27 In this race, champions blossom like flowers in spring.
01:31 My greatest fear in Milan-Sanremo will be Chipresa.
01:35 It's the longest climb of the day and probably the hardest one.
01:38 There are very few riders left, but they can pass it.
01:41 You feel a lot of excitement because you've been waiting for it all day,
01:44 the Chipresa.
01:45 On the one hand, you can't wait for it to arrive,
01:47 and on the other hand, you're a little worried
01:49 because maybe the race will open up.
01:52 I can think of somebody who's crazy enough to attack on the Chipresa.
01:56 It's super difficult to win it alone, but for sure.
02:01 You mentioned before to attack on Chipresa,
02:03 but I think if you want to really win, it's quite impossible.
02:07 It's really too long to pull.
02:10 You need to go full gas on the pull.
02:14 And he only has a few metres in which to get it done.
02:17 Investing everything in this move.
02:19 Who can he drop? Can he get rid of Maciej Van der Poel?
02:21 The most important thing is having good legs.
02:23 Maciej Van der Poel, and Pagaciu goes!
02:25 And this time a gap does appear!
02:27 And Maciej Van der Poel, they're all looking around
02:29 for where the world champion is.
02:31 That is where, exactly where Maciej Van der Poel attacked last year.
02:35 Make a gap to come solo to the finish line,
02:39 or bet on your springs, but for me that's not a good idea.
02:43 I'm going to be the first one on the podium,
02:46 I'm going to try to get in front of the group
02:50 and do my own way, my own trajectory.
02:52 Then we'll see who's there.
03:03 I think that Manz has all the opportunities to play his hand.
03:07 Jasper Steven, Manz Pedersen, little trick,
03:10 here comes Michael Matthews, the sprint is open up,
03:12 Pedersen like a rocket!
03:14 The secret formula? No, I haven't found it yet.
03:17 Hopefully tomorrow.
03:18 A race full of surprises, an attack where nobody expects it,
03:22 a sprint that precedes the wind.
03:24 Michael Matthews, and there is Jasper Philipsen,
03:27 trying to get across the line in front of the plates,
03:29 it's going to be Matthews, is it?
03:31 Michael Matthews, Jasper Philipsen,
03:34 you take your pin, Manz.
03:36 Two got there, neither of them celebrated,
03:38 Philipsen wants to know the answer.
03:40 Did he get there? Did he get there?
03:43 I'm really proud, also what Matthew did in the final,
03:49 it was an incredible job,
03:51 and I'm really proud and happy
03:54 that we could manage and play it out as a team.
03:57 I couldn't make the gap in the final pojo
04:01 in the last couple of kilometres.
04:04 I failed on the block,
04:06 I didn't have the legs to follow,
04:08 I knew it would happen,
04:10 but I didn't expect it to be that hard.
04:13 I don't know if it's on the camera,
04:15 but with 50 metres to go, my glasses fell off,
04:18 and I sort of missed a couple of pedal strokes,
04:21 and that's when Philipsen came around,
04:23 but yeah, can't change it now.
04:25 Milano-San Remo is history with an unpredictable future.
04:29 Every year, the end only marks a new beginning.
04:34 Next year we come again and try again to win it.
