While visiting the Kiyomizu-yaki Danchi Pottery Festival in Danchi-cho, Yamashina, Kyoto, A wild troop of samurai warriors and their female counter parts performed a lively show. They where wielding their katana’s to powerful flute music and displayed a truly wonderful show. You might think woman where not skilled in the katana, but these sure where. During this bygone era many women of the samurai class were trained in wielding a polearm called a naginata or a special knife called the kaiken in an art called tantojutsu, which they could use to protect their household, family, and honour if the need arose. Sure a lot of fun to see them dressed in their samurai outfit and the sound of metal hitting metal.
