London Eye to Change Color Through Tweets - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

Messages, or tweets, that mention the Olympic games on social media website Twitter are the subject of a study being done by graduate students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working with professor Mike Thelwall, from the University of Wolverhampton. The study has a visible result as the data from users of Twitter in the United Kingdom will be transformed into a light show displaying people’s emotions about the Olympic games on a day by day basis. Named “Energy of the Nation”, the light show will be broadcast nightly onto the London Eye, a huge Ferris wheel alongside the River Thames that has become synonymous with the city of London. The Eye will light up in yellow if the majority of the tweets are positive, purple if negative, and green if indifferent.

Such a light show represents one of the many facets of London Olympics which will require a massive operational capacity. Approximately 200,000 workers, which includes paid workers, contractors and volunteers, will be contributing to the operations of the games.
