I grew up in East China, and I went to medical school and college in my hometown, Qingdao. I came to North America in 1993. I went to Canada for graduate school, then I transferred to Rochester, New York, and I got my PhD degree in Immunology at the University of Rochester. Then I did my residency training in Internal Medicine, at Rochester General Hospital. Then after that I came to Seattle, and did my fellowship training in medical oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
