Dr. Mark Coughenour, MD is a practicing Medical Oncologist at The Everett Clinic.
The area that I'm working in right now involves the gynecologic tumors; these include ovarian cancers, cervix cancers, endometrial cancers. Some of these are treated purely with chemotherapy, sometimes chemotherapy combined with surgery, sometimes chemotherapy combined with radiation. So there's a multi-modality approach to most of these cancers. The chemotherapies that I use play an important role in trying to get the most shrinkage or elimination of the disease as possible.
The treatment of the gynecologic cancers has advanced in that we've gotten newer medications, newer treatments that have given us a better chance to make these cancers go away and stay away. With radiation colleagues and concurrent chemotherapy/radiation, we're able to get better long term control of these diseases.
