Self-Defense Workout: Wedge into Throat - part of the women's fitness video series by GeoBeats.

We are going to take a look at the Wedge into the Throat, the wedge of your hand. A very effective movement. Obviously the throat is a very sensitive area and for a real self defense we always attack vital areas like that; we attack throat, we attack the eyes, hitting the ear drums, all are really effective, and of course the groin.

So in this case we are looking at the wedge of the hand into the throat. So Nicole is going to be in her fighting stance with her left hand forward. She is going to come forward with the wedge of her hand, similar to do a jab, but she is going to make this shape right here with her hands.

So this is going to hit right in that spot, right there. Obviously I get hit with that and the reaction is going to be very quick. It is going to either allow her to get away to safety or to follow up with a groin strike or any other strike for self defense.

So if she faces the camera, we are going to see if you are doing this movement on your own in a mirror. You extend the jab and go, 1, good, right into throat, 2, and 3. Perfect! And if we switch sides. Always good to practice the movement on both sides, even though every martial artist is going to have a side that they favor. But it's good for fitness purposes to practice. And you never know when you may not be able to use one side and you have to use the other.

So again the wedge into the Throat. 1, 2, and 3. Good! And this can be used in combination with any number of other movements. Either flickering into the eyes first and the following up with the wedge. Or as I said, following up with the groin shot. Great for self defense. Remember, it does not have to be pretty, it just has to work.
