Hospices de Beaune – Great Attractions (Beaune, France)

Between its medieval French architecture and its striking geometric patterns, the Hospices de Beaune is incredible. This hospital for the poor was first founded in 1443 and has expanded ever since. The brightly colored and stunning roofs were made using glazed ceramic tiles popular across Burgundy. The buildings of the hospital themselves are iconic of French architecture from the fifteenth century. Now, the Hospices is a museum, although a wine charity auction is held here annually. The four buildings of the hospital form a rectangle, with an open courtyard in the middle. Housed within the complex are several treasured pieces of 17th century art.
