Newport County 0 Walsall 0 - George Bennett analysis
Transcript
00:00Hi Sadlers fans, I'm here at Rodney Parade where Walsall have just drawn 0-0 against Newport County
00:05and there was late drama as Oshie McKenty had a goal ruled out for handball in the 99th minute.
00:13Players spilled onto the pitch and celebrations looked as if they were about to go wild
00:18until the linesman who took some time to put his flag up eventually did and yes, the goal was ruled out
00:25which was a bitter blow for Walsall but it was the right decision, definitely looked like a handball from the press box
00:30and there was very little disagreement in the post-match interviews after with the decision.
00:37The drama really came in the last 15 minutes, Kieran Brennan was showing a straight red card for Newport
00:45for a high challenge on Taylor Allen and then Josh Martin was sent through by Bobby Canwa
00:51and Tommy Simpkin stuck a vital outstretched leg to keep him out in the closing stages.
00:59Simpkin then clattered into Martin, he was forced off but he escaped without punishment
01:03and Walsall though made a bright start, played some good football at times
01:08and Matt Sadler made four changes, Albert Odoma and Levi Manchi led the line,
01:13Nathan Asimwe came in for Conor Barrett at right wing back and he had a good chance early on
01:21as he drove inside and forced a near post save from Nick Townsend and Alfie Chang on his first start
01:27for Walsall was a real composed force in the centre of midfield, loved to take the ball under pressure
01:31and just keep the game ticking along nicely. Ryan Sturk also had a tidy display in midfield
01:38but despite their dominance at times in those early stages, Albert Odoma was stretching the Newport defence
01:44at times with a few nice runs but they didn't really create a great deal
01:48when Newport posed a threat on the counter-attack. Walsall's strong start went a little bit flat really
01:56midway towards the end of that first half and in the end yeah finished goalless here
02:03and that meant that Walsall momentarily climbed into the automatic spots but obviously gives Bradford
02:09the opportunity to jump above them. Matt Sadler after the final whistle said Walsall are still very
02:15much in the mix but it's now 12 without a win and just two wins in their last 19.
