00:00Good evening folks. Walsall were forced to settle for a goalless draw against
00:05Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium this afternoon. Bradford meanwhile were able to
00:10close the gap behind Walsall to just a single point after beating Colchester United 4-1 at
00:18Valley Parade. However the gap between Walsall and four spot remains at six points ahead of
00:24what is going to be a trio of top end tussles for the Sadlers. Matt Sadler made five changes
00:32from the team which began their 2-2 draw against Bromley last week. Harry Williams came into the
00:41centre of the back line. Charlie Lakin returned to midfield. Nathan Asimwe was handed his first
00:51start for Walsall. Joined Walsall on loan in January from Charlton Athletic. Ryan Stirk was
00:59restored to the holding role midfield and Albert Adoma was given a nod in attack with Ellis Harris
01:06omitting due to a hamstring issue and Gillingham had the first chance. Armani Little with a driven
01:13free kick which Hornby got down low to save and Walsall grew into the game after that. Really
01:19settled into their shape and had some good moments. Jamil Matt with the two best chances.
01:26Stole the ball from Conor Masterson. Albert Adoma broke down the left-hand side. Squared for Matt
01:33and he was denied by Glenn Morris who then sprung to his feet to deny Jamie Jellis shortly after.
01:39After he kept the attack alive and then the best chance really for either side fell to Jamil Matt
01:47on the cusp of half-time. Nathan Asimwe swung a lovely cross into the box and from point-blank
01:53range he was denied a fantastic save by Glenn Morris but you know he would have still been
01:58disappointed not to have found the net with that. But yeah a magnificent save from the Gillingham
02:05goalkeeper. Gillingham did have a goal ruled out. A push on Jamil Matt in the build-up as
02:11Conor Masterson headed into the top corner. In the second half there were chances for both
02:17teams really and Charlie Lakin with an audacious 35-yard lob from the left touchline which dipped
02:25just wide of the target. Matt Sadler introduced Levi Amanci, Danny Johnson, Brandon Connolly. It
02:35was a really positive cameo from the bench from Alfie Chang who bent one just wide and Hornby
02:42made a key save towards the end to deny Elliot Nevitt and yeah in the end Walsall were forced
02:49to settle for that point. It's now their fourth successive draw on the road. Two wins in 13 games
03:00and yeah heading into a really crucial period now with Wimbledon, Doncaster and Port Vale up next.
