00:00Micah Parsons just put his money where his mouth is by attending the Cowboys voluntary workouts
00:06despite not having a deal in place and it is obvious who the biggest winner of the situation
00:11really is. Hey what's up everyone it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas. How about
00:21Micah Parsons? He doesn't have a deal in place, he doesn't have a contract extension and he is
00:26keeping his word. In December he said that even with no deal in place he would be around for the
00:33Cowboys offseason. In fact when Brian Schottenheimer talked to the media at the beginning of April
00:38he said that he expected the superstar defender to be around. He was confident in making such a claim.
00:45Well on Monday Micah Parsons showed up. Now even though that was his message all along we know how
00:52rocky contract negotiations can get in the NFL and there was always a big possibility that when
00:58push came to shove Micah maybe was going to skip workouts and really use his leverage. He already
01:03missed the start of workouts last year because of personal reasons. He was trying to rehab and train
01:10in alternative ways. He was very criticized as a result of it but now with a potential 200 million
01:17dollar contract on the line he ended up presenting himself in the first day of workouts. Now that is
01:24massive for many reasons. Number one the Cowboys have reportedly asked Parsons to be more of a leader
01:31as they gear up for this upcoming unexpected contract extension but also because there's a new defensive
01:38coordinator in town and Michael Parsons being around Matt Iberflues is needed especially because when
01:45the Cowboys went from Mike Simmer today and Quinn the difference wasn't really that large as far as
01:50scheme goes but Iberflues is in all likelihood gonna bring much more of a change and who knows maybe when
01:56training camp comes around Micah does hold out if there is not a signed deal by then but I think this
02:03is off to a great start and I would even say that Micah showing up means that an extension could be
02:09facilitated by just being there and having the sides talk a little bit more. The Cowboys just need to
02:15involve Micah's agent which they haven't so far. But you know who the biggest winner of this situation
02:22to me is? It's not Micah. It's not the Joneses. It's not Matt Iberflues. I would argue it is Brian
02:28Schottenheimer the first year head coach and the reason why is simple. When the Cowboys controversially
02:34hired Schottenheimer it was clear what his biggest calling card was. Schottenheimer is not a X's and O's
02:40genius. He is not renowned for his strategic approach. He is known as a leader and relationships
02:48is what makes Schottenheimer a potentially good head coach in the NFL. In fact he even said so in his
02:56introductory press conference back in January. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create
03:02relationships. Relationships that are built on trust, respect, connection. I'm really good with
03:07X's and O's but I'm great with people and the type of men that we have in this locker room are excited
03:12about that. And so I think as we build this thing out as the culture comes together this team that's
03:18where I feel like my greatest impact will be felt with the relationships. When this is the message from
03:24your head coach and you're a first year head coach and a superstar defender seeking to become the
03:30highest paid non-quarterback player in NFL history shows up with no deal in place that is significant.
03:37Countless players in similar situations to Micah would not have shown up. CeeDee Lamb did not show up
03:44and I'm not holding anything against CeeDee. He did what is right. If I was Parsons' agent I would
03:50definitely be telling him he's doing the wrong thing. I respect players that hold out to get the back
03:57but having him show up man I think that's a nudge to Schottenheimer's belt all day long and it is a
04:03great way to kick off his era. Now I'm not saying we will judge Schottenheimer based on his first ever
04:09roll call but this is a solid sign that his biggest calling card is already being shown in the locker
04:16room. Now I'm not saying we will judge Schottenheimer based on how his first ever roll call goes but this
04:22might really foreshadow a winning culture. Let's stay tuned.
