00:32And the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine calls for a global mobilization
00:36in rejection of Sarni's genocide.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Teresa Studios in
00:47Caracas, Venezuela.
00:48We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:04In Ecuador, the candidates for the presidency, Luisa González and current president Daniel
01:08Novoa, are in the final stretch of the campaign in view of next Sunday's runoff vote vote.
01:13As of this Monday until April 10th, the contenders will be concentrating on campaign events to
01:17tilt the balance of votes in their favor.
01:20Last Sunday, the candidate for Citizens' Revolution, Luisa González, led a massive
01:24mobilization with proposals focused on the development of public works, national security
01:29and defense of citizens' rights.
01:31The candidate made health care and free and quality education her main pledges.
01:36Meanwhile, President Daniel Novoa reiterated his intention to reform the Constitution to
01:40modernize the state.
01:46In Argentina, workers at the Garajan Pediatric Hospital protested against the government
01:52this Monday in rejection of the management of President Javier Millet and the Minister
01:56of Health Portfolio, Mario Lugones.
01:59In a statement issued by the workers of the Garajan Hospital, they indicated that organizations
02:03of scientists, independent trade unions and the community will speak out in defense of
02:08public health.
02:09They accused the national government and the Ministry of Health of destroying the public
02:13health system by liquidating jobs and abandoning users.
02:17In the same vein, they made an urgent call to the whole community to join the fight for
02:21public, free and quality health care for all, because in health care there is no one to
02:25spare.
02:30And in Brazil, thousands of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro took part
02:35in a rally demanding amnesty for those convicted in the attempted coup d'état of January
02:408th, 2023.
02:42Black-winged demonstrators gathered in one of the main avenues of Sao Paulo, wearing
02:46Brazilian national t-shirts, while some waved flags of the United States and Israel.
02:51This was the second march organized by former President Bolsonaro, who is currently charged
02:55in the Federal Supreme Court for his involvement in the coup attempt against current President
02:59Vicente Nasrallah Silva after the 2022 elections.
03:02Bolsonaro used the platform to declare that his disqualification to run for the next elections
03:07in 2026 represents an alleged denial of democracy.
03:16And in Colombia, a Congress for Peace was held, convened by more than 150 social organizations
03:21that support the search for a political solution and the construction of a stable peace.
03:26The event, which included a peace delegation from the government in dialogue with the National
03:30Liberation Army, reaffirmed the urgency of overcoming structural violence through agreements.
03:36Congress emphasized that the state should guaranty protection and peace in the territories.
03:41The Congress emphasized the need for concrete actions to convene a National Constituent
03:46Assembly that reflects the demands of the people and stop the bombings that affect civilians.
03:56And in the Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader ordered a series of anti-immigration
04:00measures, such as increasing the number of troops on the border with Haiti and the construction
04:04of a new section of the wall between both countries.
04:07In a speech on the migratory issue, the President informed that border surveillance will be
04:11guarded by 1,500 additional soldiers.
04:14Since his arrival to the Presidency, Abinader has hardened his migratory policies towards
04:20Haiti with frequent raids and massive deportations, in spite of the calls of international organizations
04:25and agencies not to carry out refoulements to a country where in 2024 more than 5,600
04:33people died as a result of violence.
04:35According to official figures, during the first quarter of 2025, 86,000 undocumented
04:39Haitians were expelled from the Dominican Republic.
04:47That is why today I am announcing a set of 15 firm, clear measures, painful for some,
04:53but necessary to protect our country and guarantee the respect of our laws.
05:00Starting now, we will expand the supervisory capacity of the three current border brigades
05:05in six operational areas, each under the supervision of a senior officer.
05:10In addition, we will reinforce border surveillance with 1,500 additional soldiers who will join
05:17the 9,500 already deployed at the border.
05:25We will accelerate the construction of the border wall.
05:28The Minister of Defense has been instructed to immediately initiate the bidding process
05:32to build an additional 13 km to the 54 km of wall already built, thus strengthening
05:37our capacity to respond to any threat attempting to enter our country.
05:42We now have our first break coming up.
05:45Stay with us, we are going to be right back.
05:47Remember to join us on Tiktok at El Exordio de Inglés, where you'll find news in different

05:58Welcome back.
06:17European stock markets opened sharply lower on Monday on fears of a full-blown trade war
06:21and a recession triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on trading partners.
06:26European markets extended their losses this Monday in a black day for stock markets worldwide.
06:30After the opening of the day, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange fell 10 percent, while the
06:34main indices in France, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland
06:38and Sweden fell around 6 percent.
06:41This comes after a general import tax of 10 percent came into force in the United States
06:46on Saturday, while on Wednesday levies on imports from some countries, such as members
06:50of the European Union and China, would increase.
07:03In Asia, the stock market suffers a severe fall as a result of the tariff policy implemented
07:07by the United States government.
07:09The main stock market indexes in Asia began the session with drops of more than 5 percent
07:14as a result of the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
07:17Japan's Nike index fell 5.76 percent to 31,836 points, while South Korea's Kospi
07:27fell 4.8 percent to 2,355.
07:32The U.S. government has ruled out that the tariff could cause a generalized loss of economic
07:36activity.
07:37In general terms, stock markets around the world have reacted with sharp falls to the
07:41trade war initiated by the Trump administration.
07:48And precisely in this context, during a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Minister Spokeswoman
07:52Li Jian condemned the unilateralism of the recent U.S. tariffs.
07:58The U.S. is seeking hegemony in the name of reciprocity, sacrificing the legitimate interests
08:03of all countries to serve its own selfish interests, and prioritizing the U.S. over
08:10international rules.
08:12This is typical unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying.
08:17And more than 50 countries seek to renegotiate tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump.
08:23According to White House Chief Economic Adviser Kevin Hassett, the countries that have proposed
08:28initiating talks do so because they understand they will be subject to a significant portion
08:33of these tariffs.
08:35And more than 50 countries have approached the administration about lowering their non
08:42tariff trade barriers, lowering their tariffs, stopping currency manipulation.
08:47And they've been bad actors for a long time.
08:52Also in the United States, a massive march is held to close Pride Festival in Miami Beach.
08:56Waving rainbow flags and marching alongside banners of love and inclusion, Sunday Ocean
09:01Drive was filled with colors as part of the annual Miami Beach Pride Parade, where race
09:05and gender do not matter.
09:06The parade was a 12-day celebration that, in addition to its massive turnout, features
09:11a roster of allies from South Florida's LGBTIQ Plus community.
09:17Participants in the parade celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer collective
09:22while voicing concern over U.S. Trump administration's rescission of rights.
09:27Organizers have expressed that the next four years are going to be challenging for the
09:31community.
09:32This is the first time in history where we're seeing a rescission of rights in the United
09:39States.
09:40Our history has been about the expansion of rights.
09:42So it's really important to show that, you know, no matter what you do, you know, you
09:47may rewrite the history books and everything, we're not going anywhere.
09:49Well, we see that our president is trying to divide our country.
09:53I think it's important that we continue to come out and show support for everyone.
10:10In the United States, extreme weather causes at least 18 deaths in the south and midwest
10:15of the country due to high temperatures, strong winds and abundant humidity.
10:19According to reports, heavy rains and winds affected the extensive area from Texas to
10:23Ohio, causing power gas outages and the mobilization of residents to protect their homes and business.
10:31During the day, torrential rains continue to affect numerous states, among them Kentucky,
10:35Tennessee and Alabama, while experts warn of tornadoes in Georgia and Florida.
10:40Of the 18 deaths, 10 lost their lives in Tennessee and at least two were minors, while a firefighter
10:44from Missouri lost his life while trying to rescue people trapped in the storm.
10:49Meanwhile, in Ecuador, one person died after being struck by lightning on Sunday.
10:56So far this year, there have been 34 fatalities as a result of heavy rains and storms that
11:01hit the country.
11:03This last death was recorded in the municipality of Guamote in the center of the country, where
11:07there was rain, strong winds and electrical discharges.
11:11The Ecuadorian province that has been the most affected so far is Manabe, with more
11:16than 82,000 people affected and 7 deaths, followed by Guayas, with more than 27,000
11:22affected and 3 deaths.
11:25In the last week, the storm has caused floods and landslides in several parts of the country,
11:30with close to 42,000 houses affected and 252 totally destroyed.
11:41In Bolivia, rains caused 55 deaths and affected 590,000 families.
11:46According to the Vice Minister of Civil Defense Juan Carlos Calvimontes, there are 6,174 communities
11:53affected, and in total there are already 590,529 families affected.
12:00He said that the damages reached the nine departments of the country, and to date, two
12:05of them have been declared in departmental emergency, La Paz and Santa Cruz.
12:10Referring to homes, Calvimontes estimated that 1,204 homes were completely destroyed.
12:16La Paz is the most affected department not only in terms of homes, but also in terms
12:20of roads, which prevents the municipality from being connected.

12:50Welcome back.
13:20The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine called for a global mobilization in rejection
13:24of the Saudi's genocide against Palestine.
13:27The organization made an urgent call to mobilize on Monday, April 7, declared as a day of generalized
13:32anger and civil disobedience, in rejection of the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian
13:37people.
13:38Through a statement, the organization urged Palestinians in the West Bank territories
13:41occupied since 1948 and refugee camps to participate massively in protest.
13:46The organization called for the display of Palestinian symbols and the names of martyrs
13:50as living testimonies to the atrocities, while accusing Israel of using hunger as a weapon
13:55of war.
14:01Meanwhile in Morocco, demonstrators took to the streets to protest against Israel's
14:05genocide, in Gaza and U.S. support, and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
14:10In one of the country's largest demonstrations in months, protesters trampled Israeli flags,
14:15held banners of slain Hamas leaders, and hoisted placards linking displaced Palestinians
14:20to U.S. President Donald Trump.
14:22The organizers denounced Israel's military campaign, which has killed more than 1,000
14:26Palestinians and displaced hundreds of thousands since it broke a ceasefire last March with
14:30intense air and ground attacks.
14:33More than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 115,000 wounded since the genocide
14:39began.
14:42Today, this march is an expression of solidarity.
14:47Although it may not seem like much, it is having a big impact on the young people and
14:50children of the Gaza Strip.
14:52It is an expression of solidarity on the part of the Moroccan people, who will not forget,
14:57and have never forgotten, the Gaza Strip.
15:03This is a popular march that has come to declare its support for the truth and its rejection
15:07of normalization, which has led to deaths, martyrs, prisoners, and wounded.
15:13We also announce the continued support of the Moroccan people, men, women, and children,
15:18for the Palestinians and their resistance until liberation and victory, God willing.
15:25And two journalists were killed and several others were wounded in an Israeli bombardment
15:29of a journalist's tent in Hanjounis, southern Gaza.
15:32The Israeli army shelled early Monday morning a journalist's tent near the Al-Nasr Medical
15:36Camp in Hanjounis, in the southern Gaza Strip, killing two journalists and seriously wounding
15:40several others.
15:41Meanwhile, according to local media, Israeli army artillery attacked the eastern areas
15:45of the al-Saitoun and al-Shuryaya neighborhoods in the city of Gaza at dawn on Monday.
15:51At the same time, Israeli army drones bombed the same areas.
15:54The renewed attacks come after the Israeli army killed more than 50 people and ordered
15:58residents of five neighborhoods to flee.
16:08And in Palestine, the resistance reported that military operations were carried out
16:11in response to the recent massacres against civilians perpetrated by the Israeli occupation
16:16forces in the Gaza Strip.
16:17The Palestinian military group reported that the operations were carried out in the occupied
16:21Ashdod area, where Israeli weapons targeting the north of the coastline cliff were shot
16:26down.
16:27It should be noted that the authorities of the resistance expressed their condemnation
16:30of Israel's criminal actions against the country, emphasizing that they constitute
16:34a flagrant and shameless violation of all international agreements and international
16:39law.
16:44And in Yemen, U.S. strikes in northeast Sana'a left at least four people dead and 16 others
16:49wounded.
16:50The health ministry spokesman denounced the blatant aggression and bombing of civilian
16:54facilities and personnel as a war crime and a violation of international laws.
16:59According to Yemeni authorities, Washington's aggression included two airstrikes in the
17:04Shab al-Hafa area.
17:05In response, the country's armed forces targeted several U.S. warships in the northern
17:10Red Sea, including the USS Truman aircraft carrier, using cruise missiles and drones.
17:21Every April 7th, World Health Day is celebrated in commemoration of the creation of the World
17:25Health Organization to achieve equitable care and promote well-being in all regions of the
17:30world.
17:31This day is commemorated after the countries of the world come together in 1948 after the
17:36deadliest and most destructive war in human history to form the World Health Organization.
17:41The purpose of its creation was, and continues to be, to promote health, preserve the safety
17:45of the world, and save the vulnerable.
17:48In 2025, the theme chosen to commemorate the date is Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,
17:53and aims to intensify efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn death and to prioritize
17:58women's long-term health and well-being.
18:00The World Health Organization launched a global campaign for maternal and child health.
18:10Entitled Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures, the campaign will urge governments and the
18:14health community to intensify efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn death.
18:19Health agency data indicate that in 2020, in the Latin American and Caribbean region
18:23alone, there was one maternal death every hour.
18:26Most maternal deaths occur during or shortly after childbirth, making this a crucial moment
18:31for saving many lives.
18:33That is why World Health Organization experts emphasize that women and families, wherever
18:37they are, need high-quality care that supports them physically and emotionally before, during,
18:41and after childbirth.
