00:00Striking Force!
00:03Design, engineering and speed.
00:06These Year 6 pupils from Snodland Primary have become champions after winning the F1 in Schools National Finals,
00:13one of the UK's largest science and technology school competitions of its kind.
00:18Known as Striking Force, Leon, Jake, Thomas and Hugo were tasked with building their own Formula 1 team,
00:25complete with logo, merchandise and of course, racing car.
00:29Our car is based off McLaren's cars, the blue, black and orange.
00:34So we have all our sponsors on the sides.
00:38We designed our logo based on a target because we're always striking for the fastest car.
00:44I take a look at F1 quite a fair bit and I take a lot of inspiration from it,
00:49so taking streamline design and taking as much inspiration as like the goods and stuff.
00:57When put to the test, the car clocked an impressive 1.832 seconds on the 20 metre track,
01:04making it the fastest on the grid.
01:06It was probably one of the most amazing experiences ever.
01:09I mean, everyone was so happy and it was just a great day for everyone.
01:13And of course, a big part of the design process was studying the car's aerodynamics
01:17to make small fine-tuning adjustments to get extra speed on the car.
01:23Now I'm going to be given a demonstration of how the wind tunnel works,
01:27which in fact they built themselves.
01:29So there's a smoke generator connected to this remote here.
01:33There's a pipe going into the disperser which disperses the smoke evenly.
01:39Then there's the fan that's sucking the air through the wind tunnel.
01:45And then there's this part that just supplies everything with air
01:50so that the smoke can travel fast.
01:54The group all came together thanks to their keen love for Formula One.
01:58I'm told all Lewis Hamilton fans, by the way.
02:01Their teacher, Mr Smith, noticed that the school was in need of an F1 club.
02:05The F1 club has really brought in children from different areas around the school.
02:09It's given them a chance to really build on those personal social skills,
02:13public talking, speaking amongst their peers, presenting in front of others.
02:17It's a great chance for them to really build those skills.
02:19So after nine months of developing their winning formula,
02:22it's clear these youngsters have set themselves up for a future of success.
