00:00Have you ever heard of Joji, the multi-talented artist from Osaka, Japan, who has been cooking
00:04up nice beats and all sorts of cool art since 2014? Before Joji, George Miller was not only
00:09known for music, but known for his character that he played on the internet called Filthy Frank,
00:14and it was a digital persona that shaped much of what would come after it in this sphere online.
00:18It was a vile personification of the internet, something that many took huge inspiration from,
00:23even myself. He'd get onto the camera and parody the internet's trenches with this
00:27deep raspy voice and insane antics. But Miller wasn't always Filthy Frank either,
00:31this was just one side quest he went on, because even in 2006, Joji was himself posting break
00:36dancing videos as a young middle schooler to YouTube on his account, toocool4u92,
00:42talk about a legend. When he started going to college in the United States in 2011,
00:45he would begin posting as the Filthy Frank character. The character was mesmerizing and
00:49captivating, in a vile way. Like 4chan personified, it was this nerd yelling obscenities into the
00:54camera. He would describe it as the embodiment of everything a person should not be, to highlight
00:58the ridiculousness of racism, misogyny, legalism, injustices, and ignorance and other social blights.
01:04It's an interesting concept. He would post filthy videos, from acting like a freaky Guy Fieri,
01:08to satirical rap videos, to ramen filled inside of a bathtub, it was pure insanity in an age of
01:13the internet where most people were still just posting like rageface, like simple memes. The
01:17Filthy Frank character wasn't the only character in the universe though, there was of course Pink
01:21Guy, who was also a way to channel musical elements into the show. In fact, Pink Guy is the
01:25whole reason Harlem Shake was even a meme. Yeah, Pink Guy did that, Joji did that. Before long
01:30though, Joji would grow to pursue music instead of Filthy Frank, and separate it from the Filthy
01:35Frank character. Putting out a final video in 2017, alongside a book called Francis of the Filth,
01:40a book all about the lore of the many characters in the universe. In 2018, hundreds of millions
01:44of views would hit music videos like Slow Dancing, which is a banger. He's released three albums,
01:48Ballads 1 in 2018, Nectar in 2020, and Smithereens in 2022. The dude's cracked, and the music's pretty good.
