00:15end temporary protection status for Venezuelan nationals who have been granted temporaries.
00:22In Argentina, the General Confederation of Labor ratified the strike on April 10 in support
00:27of the pensioners and in continuity with the plan of struggle of the organization in the
00:31whole country.
00:34And thousands of displaced Palestinians continue to leave Rafa following the evacuation order
00:39issued by the Israeli Occupation Army.
00:44Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Derso Studios in Caracas,
00:49Venezuela.
00:50We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:07California Federal Judge Edward Shen blocked U.S. President Donald Trump's intention to
01:11end temporary protection status for Venezuelan nationals who have been granted this condition.
01:16Shen paused Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem's decision to withdraw the status
01:21that protects some 600,000 Venezuelans from being deported to their country of origin.
01:26The ruling states that the U.S. government has no evidence that granting such status
01:30to Venezuelan citizens would cause any harm.
01:32After the inauguration of the current president, the Biden government updated the TPS so that
01:36it would be valid for another 18 months.
01:39However, Trump opposed this decision and requested the suspension of this prerogative.
01:47And also in the United States, congressmen introduced resolution to recognize Transgender
01:51Visibility Day.
01:53House representatives and co-chairs of the Transgender Equality Task Force Pramila Jayapal
01:58and Sarah Jacobs introduced a bill for the United States to officially recognize March
02:0231st as Transgender Visibility Day.
02:06Since 2010, this day has sought to bring up a conversation about the violation of the
02:09rights of this community and the importance of its inclusion in the global agenda.
02:14After his second inauguration, President Donald Trump stepped up attacks on the transgender
02:18community by suspending government funding for gender transition surgeries for children
02:22under 19.
02:27Meanwhile in Venezuela, the Great Patriotic Pope presented the candidates that will participate
02:31in the upcoming regional elections on May 25th.
02:34The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced that the elections of governors,
02:38legislators for each state's legislative councils and deputies to the National Assembly
02:42for the 2025-2031 period will be held next May 25th.
02:46Likewise, during the event, the President of the Special Electoral Commission of the
02:50United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, highlighted that the candidates were
02:54elected by the democratic participatory and proactive elections.
02:57Moreover, they emphasized that for the first time, the state of Guayana and Zequiva will
03:02participate in the regional elections.
03:08And the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, denounced the Chilean state
03:12and in particular its President, Gabriel Boric, for having introduced before the International
03:16Criminal Court an accusation against the Venezuelan government for its alleged link to the murder
03:21in Santiago de Chile of the Venezuelan conspirator, Ronald Ojeda, at the beginning of 2024, after
03:26being kidnapped by individuals in uniforms belonging to the Chilean security force.
03:29Apart from the fact that it is legally barbaric and has no basis, it demonstrates the absolute
03:40corruption of the Chilean Attorney General's office, which contradicts itself.
03:45When they launched their first line of investigation, that the crime of Ronald Ojeda, who participated
03:50in a coup d'Ă©tat, in attempts at assassination, had an arrest warrant in this country, who
03:55was given refugee status in Chile, and who violated his own refugee status, entering
04:00and leaving Venezuela, to seek to assassinate Venezuelan authorities.
04:05They themselves ruled in their first line of investigation, which was the most accurate,
04:10that it was a settling of scores between arms traffickers.
04:14Panama extended the safe conduct for three days for former President Ricardo Martinelli
04:18to travel to Nicaragua.
04:20The extension takes place after the government of Nicaragua asked for clarification on a
04:23apparent alert issued by Interpol.
04:25The Nicaraguan government announced that it was suspending the trip's schedule for this
04:29Monday because there appeared to be a trap against the former President of Panama.
04:33Martinelli, a 73-year-old business executive with economic interests in various sectors,
04:38took refuge in the Nicaraguan embassy on February 7, 2024, after his 10-year prison sentence
04:43and a million-dollar fine were confirmed for the new business case, related to the purchase
04:47of media outlets with public funds.
04:53And Argentina's film industry is preparing for the 26th edition of the Buenos Aires International
05:07Independent Film Festival, Bafishi, which will be deployed as a space of resistance
05:12of culture.
05:14The event will be held from April 1 to the 13th in 13 theaters throughout the city, with
05:19over 640 screenings and almost 300 films from 44 countries, including Canada, Germany,
05:24France, Norway, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic.
05:28The event will be inaugurated with a local film screening, UPA, a screen in Athens, by
05:33Camila Tucker, Tamay Garategui and Santiago Girald, as well as the screening of La Zurda
05:39by director Rosendo Ruiz.
05:41In addition to the screenings, the festival will also provide attendees with a series
05:44of lectures, panels and presentations with international guests.

05:58We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:14Welcome back.
06:22In Argentina, the General Confederation of Labor ratified the strike on April 10 in support
06:27of the pensioners and in continuity with the plan of struggle of the organization in the
06:31whole country.
06:32This Monday, in a plenary meeting attended by more than 280 members of the 79 existing
06:37regional organizations, the support for the measure was ratified, confirming also a mobilization
06:41scheduled for April 9.
06:43According to Argentine media, it is expected that the pensioners' demonstration will
06:47turn into a work stoppage from midday to guarantee the mobilization to the Congress.
06:51It is also expected that on April 9 there will be an act with the reading of a document
06:56or the intervention of the co-secretary generals of the CGT, which will take place in the square
07:00of the two Congresses.
07:13Also in Argentina, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses reports nearly
07:2140% of the population is poor, but numbers could be higher since the institution's
07:26methodology for measuring poverty and indigency is outdated.
07:30A recent index survey showed that poverty reached 38.1% of people and 28.6% of households
07:37in the second semester of 2024.
07:38However, the entity was questioned by different sectors because those results are based on
07:42the measurement of inflation, whose methodology has not been updated since 2004, when the
07:47basic goods and services expenditure was lower than nowadays.
07:51These distortions further increase the margin of error in periods of strong inflation variation.
08:00And in Paraguay, the national police prevented an act of commemoration after eight years
08:05of the murder of the young politician Rodrigo Quintana.
08:09National police prevented the event and repressed the demonstrators, which citizens denounced
08:12as part of the consolidation of an increasingly authoritarian dictatorship.
08:17Eight years after the assassination of Rodrigo Quintana, a group of leaders and militants
08:20of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party and other opposition groups mobilized to commemorate
08:25the date with a theatrical performance in the courthouse plenade.
08:28It should be noted that Quintana was assassinated by the police and eight years after the crime
08:33was committed by the government of Horacio Cartes, the fact remains unpunished.
08:37It worries me how we, as ordinary citizens, cannot access our rights.
08:47We wanted to leave the background of the case of Rodrigo Quintana in the Archive of Terror
08:52in the Museum of Truth and Justice, and we cannot.
08:55We came weeks ago, we made the note, and we agreed that today we are going to come to
09:00make the delivery.
09:01And in the end, it is terrible.
09:03The dictatorship continues, and in the end, the Archives of Terror, the Museum of Truth
09:08and Justice, the dictatorship continues, and we need to continue demanding democracy and
09:13justice for our dead.
09:14It is yet another attack on the increasingly diminished freedoms in Paraguay.
09:23But the party, and I think the majority of citizens, demonstrated this last week with
09:28a large protest of around 10,000 people who took to the streets to express their concern,
09:34their discomfort and their disagreement with this city, and above all, with this government.
09:53In Thailand, rescue work continues for the fourth consecutive day in a collapsed building
09:58in Bangkok after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that had its epicenter in Myanmar last Friday.
10:02Authorities on Tuesday raised the death toll to 20, while they are still searching for
10:06the more than 70 workers who were trapped when a building under construction collapsed
10:10on top of them.
10:13According to the latest official death toll, some 34 people suffered injuries of varying
10:17severity during the earthquake in Bangkok, where two citizens who were in their respective
10:22apartments also lost their lives.
10:24On the 30th floor building that collapsed, the death toll stands at 13, with the last
10:29victim reported on Monday night.
10:36And in Myanmar, rescue efforts are being hampered on Tuesday by the risk of landslides and aftershocks
10:41in parts of Burma worst affected by Friday's powerful earthquake.
10:46Some rescue operations in Mandalay, this country's second city and one of the places most affected
10:51by the 7.7 magnitude quake, located about 17 km from the epicenter, had to be suspended
10:56on Tuesday.
10:57Efforts to find survivors in hard-hit areas of the city, including the Sky Villa condominium,
11:02the Great Wall Hotel and the U La Thien Monastery, had to be temporarily halted due to the risk
11:08of landslides and the impact of aftershocks, despite the hundreds of people missing at
11:13these sites.
11:17And in Australia, heavy rains caused severe flooding in the state of Queensland, leaving
11:21a death toll of 100,000 animals.
11:23Early estimates indicate that over 105,348 head of cattle are dead or lost as a result
11:30of flooding in inland Queensland.
11:32Speaking out, Longreach Mayor Tony Raynor said many homes have been damaged but total
11:37losses will be known when the water levels recede.
11:40State Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett said the impact would be devastating for producers
11:45and industries.

12:35Welcome back.
13:01Thousands of displaced Palestinians continue to leave Rafa following the evacuation order
13:05issued by the Israeli Occupation Army for the largest area of southern Gaza as the humanitarian
13:09crisis worsens due to the blockade of the enclave.
13:12On Monday, the Genocidal Regime issued a new forced evacuation order, warning that soldiers
13:17will soon resume intense combat operations, forcing some 40,000 people to flee once again.
13:24In addition, evacuation orders were also issued Tuesday for residents of Bet Hanun, Bet Lahaya
13:30and the neighborhoods of Sheikh Zayed Al Manshiyah and Tal al-Sattar in northern Gaza.
13:36According to UN reports, 20 percent of the Gaza Strip is already under Israeli evacuation
13:41orders, excluding buffer zones and the Netzarim corridor.
13:52An Israeli army attack on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday claimed the lives of a journalist
13:57and his family.
13:58According to Wafan News Agency, an Israeli drone attacked the house of journalist Mohammed
14:02Saleh al-Bardawil in the known as Japanese neighborhood west of Hanjounis, resulting
14:09in his death along with his wife and their three children.
14:13According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 42 people were killed and 183 wounded
14:17in Israeli attacks in the last 24 hours.
14:20Since Israel broke the ceasefire and resumed its genocide in Gaza on March 18, at least
14:261,001 civilians have been killed and 2,359 others have been wounded, mostly children
14:33and women.
14:38And the United Nations Agency for Children announced that 322 children were killed in
14:43the course of 10 days as a result of heavy Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
14:48UNICEF explained in a statement that the intense and indiscriminate bombardment, coupled with
14:53the total suspension of humanitarian aid, has put civilians in Gaza, especially children,
14:58at grave risk.
14:59The organization warned that the number of child deaths could rise if basic needs, which
15:03Israel has been blocking for a month, are not met.
15:07UNICEF stressed that more than 15,000 children have been killed and more than 34,000 injured
15:13in the past 18 months in Gaza and that 1 million children have been displaced, deprived of
15:18their most basic needs.
15:25Also at least three people were killed and seven wounded in an overnight new Israeli
15:29bombardment of the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.
15:31This is the second such attack on Beirut since the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel came
15:36into effect last October.
15:38Residents of the Lebanese capital woke up early Tuesday morning to the impact of shells
15:42that caused violent explosions in a residential building in the Mady neighborhood.
15:46The attack almost completely destroyed the top three floors in the building, claiming
15:51the lives of three people, according to Lebanese health ministry.
15:54The occupation army informed that a Hezbollah leader was targeted, following the direction
15:59of the army and the Shin Bet.
16:06It's just another brutal assault by the Israelis, as they usually do.
16:09They are violating international agreements.
16:11It's a strike as all the Lebanese territory is free game to them.
16:15We were at home.
16:16You know it's Eid al-Fitr.
16:18People have finished their work and have time off.
16:20The brutal strike took place.
16:22We didn't know where it happened.
16:23But once the smoke faded, it appeared it was the building directly facing us.
16:28Meanwhile in Israel, Finance Minister Bessalel Smatresk has resigned from his post.
16:32Israeli Channel 12 reported Monday that Smatresk resigned in a letter to Israel President Benjamin
16:37Netanyahu.
16:38A spokesperson for Smatresk said the resignation was a protest against Saudi's Jewish power
16:43party Itamar Benvir, requests for more ministerial positions upon his return to join the regime
16:50again.
16:51The resignation will not collapse Netanyahu's coalition regime, but it will increase problems
16:55for it, as the move highlights growing fractures within Israel's far-right wing coalition.
17:01U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio presses NATO to increase military spending while millions
17:09of people in the U.S. face social cuts.
17:12The U.S. administration is specially pressuring Spain to raise its defense spending to 2 percent
17:16of gross domestic product, as revealed by Under-Secretary Christopher Landau in conversations
17:21with Spanish diplomats.
17:23While Rubio speaks of lasting peace in Ukraine, his agenda prioritizes the enrichment of the
17:28U.S. military-industrial complex.
17:29Thus, this calls for increased war spending, in contrast with the dismantling of essential
17:34public services in allied countries.
17:42At multiple forces of Chinese People's Liberation Army, Eastern Theater Command conducts joint
17:47exercises around Taiwan Island.
17:49The Theater Command organizes its Army, Navy, Air and Rocket Forces to close in on Taiwan
17:54Island from multiple directions.
17:56According to the spokesperson for the Theater Command, Senior Colonel Shi Jie, these drills
18:00mainly focus on sea air combat readiness patrols, joint seizure of comprehensive superiority,
18:05assault on maritime and ground targets.
18:07The drills serve as a stern warning and forceful deterrent against Taiwan's independent separatist
18:13forces.
18:14In Malaysia, at least 33 people reported injured after a gas pipeline explosion in a residential
18:25area.
18:26A major fire broke out on Tuesday morning in Putra Heights after an explosion of a gas
18:31mine.
18:32The fire, which originated near a gas station, was visible from miles away and caused the
18:36immediate evacuation of nearby homes.
18:38Three nearby gas stations were temporarily closed as a precaution, although they were
18:42not directly affected.
18:44Although no fatalities have been reported, authorities are still assessing the full extent
18:47of the damage.
18:50And we have come to the end of this news brief.
