00:00My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day.
00:03U.S. President Donald Trump has declared a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries
00:09and higher tariff rates on dozens of nations that run trade surpluses with the United States.
00:15Imports on goods from the European Union are facing a 20%
00:18tax, Trump announced as he held up a chart at the White House.
00:23European Union, they're very tough, very, very tough traders.
00:26You know, you think of European Union, very friendly, they rip us off.
00:32It's so sad to see.
00:34It's so pathetic.
00:3539%, we're going to charge them 20%, so we're charging them essentially half.
00:41Trump promised Americans that factory jobs will return back to the United States,
00:45but his policies risk a sudden economic slowdown as consumers and businesses could face sharp price
00:51hikes. For decades, our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by nations near
00:58and far, both friend and foe alike. American steel workers, auto workers, farmers, and skilled
01:05craftsmen, we have a lot of them here with us today. They really suffered gravely. They watched
01:11in anguish as foreign leaders have stolen our jobs, foreign cheaters have ransacked our factories,
01:18and foreign scavengers have torn apart our once beautiful American dream.
01:23Trump's announcement threatens to upend much of the architecture of the global economy and trigger
01:29broader trade wars. Long-time trade partners, including the EU, have already hit back at
01:34previously announced tariffs on steel and aluminium.
