00:00In Venezuela, the prosecutor's office further denounced the kidnapping of the national migrants
00:17by the government of El Salvador and the United States, describing it as a crime against humanity.
00:26The Myanmar Red Cross report that 7.7 magnitude earthquake that shocked the country on Friday
00:32destroyed 70% of the Sagaian city.
00:40In France, a court found far-right leader Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement of European
00:46parliament funds, effectively banning the politician from running for office in 2027.
01:16In Venezuela, on Monday, the prosecutor's office further denounced the kidnapping of
01:29national migrants by the government of El Salvador and the United States, describing
01:33it as a crime against humanity.
01:35This way, the Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab condemned arbitrary detentions
01:40by the U.S. government and the criminalization of national migrants, most of whom had no
01:45criminal records, but were detained allegedly due to links with the extinct criminal organization
01:51Tren de Aragua.
01:52Saab further condemned the mistreatment of the Venezuelan, who are currently kidnapped
01:57in El Salvador, as a high-security prison.
02:00The Attorney General referred to the kidnapping as a crime against humanity since it intends
02:06to use the discriminatory basis of nationalities in an absolute violation of international
02:12law.
02:21And I'm going to typify it like this from the beginning.
02:28This becomes a crime against humanity because there are all the assumptions that, although
02:36the Rome Statute consults, registers, so that an action of this caliber is typified as a
02:42crime against humanity, first because it is discrimination against a nationality.
02:52What is nationality to be Venezuelan?
02:55That has nothing to do with it.
03:00That is an absolute violation of the Rome Statute and of the International Covenant
03:05on Civil and Political Rights of the U.N.
03:08El Salvador signed the Rome Statute, therefore it is violating it since they are detained
03:16and deported for being Venezuelans.
03:19Second, they have suffered cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
03:25Third, they have been illegally deprived of their freedom, apart from having violated
03:30their physical integrity.
03:37The Attorney General of Venezuela reiterated that none of the Venezuelan migrants kidnapped
03:42in El Salvador were under dismantled gun in Aragua nor had an arrest warrant against them.
03:53And they have no clue, no clue that these Venezuelans are being linked to a dismantled
03:58gang in this country called Tren de Aragua, whose main members are detained in Venezuela,
04:13more than 50.
04:15Another large group of that gang, in confrontations, were neutralized.
04:20And another group has been given the order of arrest and a red alert.
04:24I want to highlight, because we have seen it like this, based on official lists that
04:29have circulated, that no one is on the list of arrest warrants that the public prosecutor's
04:40office has issued with a request for a red alert to Interpol.
04:48None of the unofficial lists that we have seen.
04:54Despite the order of U.S. courts, 17 new Venezuelan migrants were deported from the U.S. and sent
04:59to the terrorist confinement center in El Salvador, with the allegations that they belonged
05:05to the ex-criminal organization Tren de Aragua, the Donald Trump administration, transferred
05:09Venezuelans to the maximum security prison in El Salvador, violating all legal regulations
05:15and their human rights.
05:16The migrants are that the 238 that, in previous states, have been kidnapped in the same way.
05:23The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed the transfer of migrants under the
05:27Obstetrics and Gynecology Act, which dismissed the usual duty processes pulled out by the
05:34U.S. Constitution.
05:35The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, explained that they are taking measures to
05:49face the future imposition of tariffs by the U.S. government.
05:53The Mexican president points out that through the forced transformation, the Mexican nation
05:59will be safe from the 25% export tariffs set by her U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump.
06:06The head of state also highlighted that the creation of social programs is focused on
06:11the most vulnerable and low-income population.
06:14On April 2, the U.S. government tariff measures against Mexican products, specifically those
06:19of the automotive industry, will go into effect.
06:37While giving her morning address on Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured
06:42that the forced transformation government is ready to face the U.S. if it imposes tariffs
06:47on the U.S.
06:56Now comes April 2, which is the day that President Trump is going to announce the famous tariffs
07:02to the whole world.
07:04Today, 90% of so-called commentators say that the president of Mexico is responsible for
07:12what is going to happen on April 2.
07:17But that is a measure that President Trump is taking.
07:21What do we do about it?
07:23Well, we are looking for the best conditions for our people and for the nation, and we
07:28have a plan that will be presented in due time to face this situation.
07:36The World Food Program warns of a growing crisis for children in Haiti.
07:41The organization states that about $10 million are needed to feed more than 1.3 million Haitians,
07:50specifically children.
07:51This is a phase of violence unleashed by armed groups in the Caribbean country, causing high
07:56levels of hunger and forced displacement.
07:5835% of children under the age of 5 in the country are staying with one of six infants
08:06under the brink of starvation.
08:19Members of the Colombian Education Worker Federation mobilized this Monday in support
08:24of the social reform promoted by the government.
08:27The rally aims to raise awareness about the need to improve working conditions of teachers.
08:34In addition, it is expected that for this day, the union organization will deliver a
08:39list of demands to the government, in which they expose their proposals in order to achieve
08:46better working conditions for the union's teachers.
08:49The union argued that Colombia is a country where the people struggle and senators of
08:54the 7th Commission get paid in reference to the commitment that signs the labor reform
09:00promoted by the government.
09:05Let's take our first break, but don't go away because we'll be right back to say with us.
09:28Welcome back to From the South.
09:30The Myanmar Red Cross reported that the 7.792 earthquake that shocked the country on Friday
09:35destroyed 70% of the Sagaing city.
09:38The powerful earthquake left at least 2,600 dead, 3,900 injured and 270 missing people,
09:50according to the latest releases by the country's State Administration's Consulate Information
09:54Team.
09:55On the rescuer, the military union informed that there are specialists from several countries,
10:00among them China, Russia, Singapore, India and Thailand, who are participating in the
10:06search and rescue efforts.
10:07They confirmed that the situation in the Sagaing city was more uncertain as it was in zones
10:14of armed conflict.
10:16In this context, about 400 Chinese earthquake expert rescuers and medics are participating
10:28in relief efforts in different parts of Myanmar.
10:31The teams have reportedly rescued six survivors so far in the heavily affected areas of Mandalay
10:39and Naypyidaw.
10:41In addition, the Chinese government sent on Sunday a batch of goods, including clothes,
10:46medicines and other daily necessities, and another batch of mundane containing materials
10:52such as tents, blankets and more than 3,000 first aid kits.
10:56China has pledged to provide Myanmar with close to $14 million in humanitarian aid following
11:02the deadly quake.
11:11Many people died in the earthquake in the area where we live, as well as on nearby streets
11:17and Sagaing Hill.
11:21The urban area is worst hit, causing the largest number of casualties.
11:30Some roads and bridges collapsed completely.
11:35Many people were buried under rubber.
11:39Chinese rescue teams came to help us.
11:41They have asked about our situation and needs.
11:43They have given us aid and support.
11:44Thank you very much.
11:45I hope I can express my gratitude to the Chinese rescue teams on behalf of the people in the
11:49affected areas.
11:52U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs
11:57if the Persian nation does not reach an agreement with the White House on its nuclear program.
12:03In declarations to U.S. media, Trump said that if they do not reach an agreement, there
12:09will be bombings never seen before.
12:11In this sense, the president also added the possibility of imposing secondary tariffs
12:15as he did four years ago.
12:18Washington accuses Tehran of enriching Iranians to develop weapons, although Iran has stressed
12:25that its nuclear program is peaceful, unlike the Israeli one.
12:30On the other hand, Iranian President Massoud Pashinyan stated that Tehran rejects direct
12:35talks with the U.S. on the issue, pointing out that Iran keeps the door open to negotiations
12:41with the U.S. through mediators.
12:43The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah J. Khamenei, affirmed that any kind of attack against his
12:59country would receive a reciprocal and foresawful response.
13:04During his speech on the occasion of the end of the Fascist holiday, Khamenei pointed out
13:10that he does not see it probable that the country would be attacked from outside and
13:16went against the call for policies in Iran by sectors supported by the U.S.
13:22The Iranian Supreme Leader took the opportunity to point out that Israel's genocidal actions
13:27against Palestine are committed with the support of the United States.
13:31Khamenei's statements come after U.S. President Trump threatened Tehran with bombings and
13:36tariffs if they do not reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
13:47In the United States, others showed up to critical heat following President Donald Trump's
13:52announcement of permanent tariffs.
13:54Europe and Asia are the continents most affected by the significant market decline.
13:59Investors reacted quickly to the news, proving that these tariffs could severely impact the
14:06profitability of automotive companies and lead to higher prices for consumers.
14:13Analysts also warned that these measures could further destabilize the automotive industry
14:20as many companies rely on global supply chains and imports of parts and vehicles.
14:30In France, on Monday, a court found far-right leader Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement
14:38of European Parliament funds, effectively banning the national rally politician from
14:43running for office in 2027.
14:45In addition, the five-year ban, Le Pen was handed by the judges at $108,195.
14:57Furthermore, the French leader was sentenced to four years in prison with two years suspended
15:02and the other two to be severed outside jail with an electronic bracelet.
15:08Neither of which will be applied until the verdict on her appeals.
15:12Le Pen, together with 24 party members, were found guilty of some schemes to embezzlement
15:17of European Parliament funds by using money destined for Parliament assistance to pay
15:22party workers.
15:23The years-long scheme supposedly caused losses of $4.89 million to European taxpayer funds.
15:42In this context, the National Secretary of the French Centre, left by the ecologist Marine
15:48Le Pen, must sever her sentence according to the law like any other national after committing
15:53a crime.
15:57When you lecture others on exemplary behavior, you must first apply it to yourself.
16:01That is what ultimately ensures integrity and the proper functioning of public institutions,
16:05as guaranteed by Article 5 of the Constitution.
16:07It is therefore normal that someone aspiring to the presidency respects these fundamental
16:11principles of integrity.
16:13She did not respect them, and the best way to avoid being convicted is not to seek immunity
16:17for oneself, but to follow the law, to not commit crimes or offenses.
16:20She has been convicted today, and she must serve her sentence like any other French citizen.
16:27Let's take a last break, but don't go away because we'll be right back.
16:44Welcome back.
16:56On Sunday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society announced the recovery of 13 bodies of health
17:01workers.
17:02Eight of them were members of the Organization 5 for Rescue and one was a UN worker, all
17:07missing since last Sunday following an Israeli offensive on southern Gaza.
17:12They were found in the area of Tel El Sur and one of the neighborhoods most affected
17:17by the conflict in the city of Rafa on the border with Egypt.
17:21The organization said the bodies were difficult to recover because they were buried in sand
17:27and some had begun to decompose.
17:29In a press conference held on Sunday morning before the news broke, the Society's president
17:36Yonis Al-Kabaid hailed the Israeli authorities responsible for the safety and lives of the
17:41medics.
17:48He had been a paramedic at the Red Crescent for 18 years.
17:52He transported the wounded, he did not transport missiles or bombs in the ambulance.
17:58He carried martyrs, he carried the wounded and the sick.
18:01That's what he did.
18:02He never carried missiles or bombs.
18:06The medical and civil defense crews were executed.
18:08They tied their hands and placed their bodies in a hole and covered it with sand.
18:12Why?
18:13These people should be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court.
18:16This should be a priority.
18:17Not only the hostages, this case should shake the whole world and everyone should be aware
18:21of the case of the paramedics and medical crews.
18:23They went to provide first aid and they all died at once.
18:26They all died at once.
18:31Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu designed a mandate by Saad Miran Elie-Sharpeir
18:37as the new head of the Shin Bet, that is the country's general intelligence and internal
18:43security service, as in Raunenberg.
18:46But it was removed from office for conducting an investigation into an alleged corruption
18:52case in which Benjamin Netanyahu was involved.
18:54The Prime Minister's office commented that Sharpeir is the right person to lead the agency
19:00because of his extensive experience in the service of the Israeli forces.
19:04Meanwhile, the opposition had the population criticize such decision.
19:09Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed the right of Palestinian people
19:24and condemned the Israeli occupation on the date of the Palestinian land.
19:28On his ex-account, Khamenei stressed that the Israeli occupation regime, which controls
19:34the land of Palestine, is not right over it.
19:38He further emphasized that the land belongs to the entire Palestinian people, including
19:42Muslims, Christians, and Jews.
19:44But his claims were historical and geographical arguments.
19:49In this context, the Hamas-Palestinian-Islamic resistance movement is opposed to any plan
19:54that involves displacement or resettlement for the Palestinian people.
20:08On Monday, Russia denounced that Kiev regime is attacking its energy systems.
20:12The defense ministry reported that Ukrainian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Bransk
20:17casting power outages.
20:19The ministry said that an artillery attack on a facility of a subsidiary of the public
20:26joint-stock company Rosetti Center and Briansk Energo was related to a disruption of the
20:33high-voltage line in the province's border in Ukraine.
20:36The government and agency pointed out that the continuous deliberate attacks by Kiev
20:41armed forces on Russian energy facilities showed the complete inability of the Zelensky
20:46regime to assume any of its obligations regarding the settlement of the conflict.
20:59On another topic, it was unveiled on Monday that Pope Francis has approved the colonization
21:03of Venezuelan nun Mother Cardinal Rendiles, founder of Serpents of Jesus, who carried
21:10out her service in parishes and schools, dedicating herself to those in need.
21:16Rendiles was born in Caracas on August 11, 1903, and dedicated herself to the Apostle
21:24in a parish from a very young age.
21:27She took her perpetual vows on September 8, 1932.
21:33Later on, she founded the Congregation of Serpents of Jesus, together with her Latin
21:38American sisters.
21:39After her death in 1977, she was baptized on June 16, 2018, for the miraculous healing
21:50of a young woman suffering from idiopathic tricholitis attributed to her intersection
22:00with the canonization.
22:02Mother Cardinal Rendiles became the first female saint of Venezuela.
22:12In this regard, through his social network Telegram, President Nicolás Maduro stated
22:16his joy over the canonization news and expressed,
22:19The year 2025 is full of formidable news in all areas.
22:24We receive with Christians rejoicing and great expectation the announcements of our saint
22:31Mother Cardinal Rendiles, a woman who has upheld a genius demonstration of God's love
22:37and earned the legacy of proven miracles.
22:40Today, her canonization is ratified by the Catholic Church through His Holiness Pope
22:46Francis.
22:47Venezuela renews its faith and the world has more reasons to pray with us, to cry out for
22:54the hope and the brightness of our heavenly God, Saint José Gregorio Hernández and Saint
23:01Cardinal Rendiles.
23:03Bless Venezuela and be well.
23:11And with that we have come to the end of this news brief.
23:14For the Lesson English and from the South, I'm Ana Marrero.
