00:29various ways by the last Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

00:42Qatar according to a senior official from the Islamic Resistance Movement of Palestine.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra GarcĂa from Telesur Studios in
00:55Havana, Cuba.
00:56Let's begin with news.
01:10In Venezuela, a group of repatriated migrants arrived at the SimĂłn BolĂvar International
01:15Airport in Maiketilla, in the state of La Guaira, Venezuela, as part of the Return to
01:19the Homeland Plan.
01:21This time they arrived in an American aircraft, as there were slight changes in logistics
01:27and procedure originating in the United States.
01:30The plane with the repatriated migrants landed on Venezuelan soil, complying with all the
01:36international protocols.
01:38Venezuelan Minister of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, Captain Diosdado Cabello,
01:43said the plane was bringing about 175 repatriated migrants from the United States, after having
01:51been subjected to mistreatment and accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang.
02:01Of all the 1,300 Venezuelan migrants that have been repatriated so far, this is the
02:06first time that out of 175, one has a criminal case opened here in Venezuela but none of
02:12them are linked to the Tren de Aragua gang.
02:14Out of the 175, 11 women, again, let me clarify, this flight has been scheduled for 9 a.m.
02:21But due issues over there in the United States, it is at this time of the afternoon that it
02:26is arriving, it had been announced that would be 229 people, but there are only 175 people
02:33on this flight, last time I said, as constructive criticism.
02:37It seems that there is a bit of a mess in the United States on this issue, but we take
02:41this very seriously.
02:44In Venezuela, during the 25th ALBA-TCP political council, participants rejected the constant
02:50aggressions of the United States government against the missions of Cuban doctors and
02:54Petro Caribe.
02:55During the event, Venezuelan Foreign Minister IvĂĄn Gil rejected the aggressions promoted
03:01by the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, against the cooperation of Cuban
03:06doctors and the Petro Caribe initiative, both of which have been beneficial for the development
03:12of the region.
03:13Gil also urged to progress in the strategic lines identified by the leaders who participated
03:20in the last presidential summit held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding
03:25of the organization.
03:26For his part, the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno RodrĂguez rejected the increasing unilateral
03:31coercive measures of Washington against the Caribbean island and several countries of
03:36the region.
03:42In this context, on Saturday, President NicolĂĄs Maduro held a meeting with foreign affairs
03:47ministers of the ALBA-TCP member states in the framework of the 25th Political Council
03:52of the Nations that formed this Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas People's
03:57Trade Treaty.
03:58During his remarks, President Maduro highlighted the historic fight of Latin America against
04:03the imperialist pretensions of the US, and he affirmed the Alliance's will to keep strengthening
04:08the regional integration and multilateralism for the future.
04:12The head of state also rejected the economic aggressions of the United States government
04:17against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, as well as the situation of the Venezuelan migrants
04:22kidnapped in El Salvador.
04:33They were going with a program, but the government of the United States prefers to raise the
04:38false campaign against Venezuela that this was a programmed invasion of criminals to
04:43the United States, a lie that no one in the United States believes.
04:57Not even those who say it.
04:58Because the economic migrants that went to the United States were stimulated by them,
05:03by the coyotes, they were placed in the main cities of the United States by the coyotes,
05:09and the great absolute majority are people who dedicated themselves to work for themselves
05:15and their families.
05:16Now they want to justify, with a big lie, the aggressions they are making against Venezuela.
05:33The Venezuelan president also rejected the human trafficking networks perpetrated by
05:39the representatives of the extreme right wing.
05:46They are treated as if they were criminals.
05:49I have been told that many of them left neighborhoods here in Caracas.
05:53They paid the coyotes $5,000, $7,000, $10,000, depending on the rate.
06:05Ambassador, I know of a case of a boy here in Petar, right here, who paid $5,000 and
06:12they took him to Atlanta in five weeks.
06:14He was in Atlanta, from his neighborhood all the way to Darien.
06:23The famous Darien and up.
06:25At the border, they received him.
06:27He signed a credible fear and went on.
06:32And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
06:36Tell Us Your English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
06:40We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:52Welcome back to From the South.
06:54Thousands of Brazilians took to the streets in cities across Brazil today to protest an
06:58attempt by far-right members of Congress to grant amnesty to former President Jair Bolsonaro.
07:04Correspondent Daya Mir has more.
07:08In Brazil today, thousands of people have come out to the streets of 11 big cities across
07:15the country to yell no amnesty, to protest against a movement that's building in Brazil's
07:22far right to try and push an amendment through Congress that, if passed, would grant amnesty
07:29to former President Jair Bolsonaro, the 32 of his accomplices that were indicted with
07:35him for trying to trigger a military coup in 2023.
07:40And the hundreds of capital rioters, many of whom are still in jail for stealing weapons
07:47and classified documents and destruction of property on January 8, 2023, during the invasion
07:54of the Supreme Court Capitol and presidential palace in Brasilia.
07:58Now, it doesn't look like there's enough momentum to pass yet.
08:03A huge amnesty protest that was promised in Rio de Janeiro, hosted by Jair Bolsonaro,
08:09had pledged to bring over a million people to the streets.
08:12Estimates say that was really only about 18,000 people would come out.
08:16But nevertheless, with the president of Congress in Asia, with President Lula right now, some
08:21people are worried that the far right is going to try and pass some kind of initiative.
08:26And that's why everyone's out on the streets today yelling no amnesty.
08:33In Myanmar, the United Nations estimates that around 20 million people were affected in
08:38various ways by last Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
08:43The United Nations coordinator in Myanmar, Marco Luigi Corsi, said that at least a third
08:48of the population is suffering the consequences of the powerful tremor.
08:52The damage documented by the United Nations includes 1,690 houses, 670 monasteries, 60
09:01schools and three large bridges.
09:03In addition to the destroyed buildings, there have been cracks in universities, hospitals
09:08and roads, leaving these places unsafe and forcing the evacuation of millions of people
09:14to open spaces or to some shelters.
09:17Faced with the damage caused by last Friday's earthquake, the Myanmar authorities declared
09:22a state of emergency in the regions of Sangain, Mandalay, Magway, Shan, Naypyidaw and Bago.
09:34In Thailand, the death toll from the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar this Friday, March
09:4228th, increased to 17.
09:44The earthquake left 32 people injured and 83 missing, while the affected areas being
09:50evaluated with a decreasing probability of aftershocks.
09:54So far, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has recorded damage in 18 provinces
10:00of the country, 420 homes, 76 hospitals, 8 buildings, 23 schools and 18 government offices.
10:09National agencies are providing relief to facilitate assistance and rescue efforts.
10:18In Colombia, authorities report 44 emergencies in Bogota after heavy rains.
10:24The fire department reported 17 damages to the sewage system, 10 fallen trees, 4 damages
10:29to aqueducts, 2 traffic accidents and a gas leak.
10:33The report detailed that the Santa Clara Hospital suffered flooding inside the facility, reason
10:39why some patients had to be transferred to other health institutions.
10:44Authorities announced that the District Institute for Risk Management and Climate Change activated
10:49the emergency plan to deal with the flooding.
10:57In other news, in Russia, authorities have confirmed that the army eliminated at least
11:01170 Ukrainian fighters and mercenaries over the last few hours.
11:07The Russian Defense Ministry announced success of the special operation of the Central Group
11:12in completing the liberation of the Zaporozhye town in the Donetsk region.
11:17The town bears the same name as the neighboring province and city of Zaporozhye, where progress
11:22in the operation was reported as well.
11:25According to the Russian Defense report, during the attacks they intercepted, U.S.
11:30made guided bombs and about 78 drones.
11:38The rise of fascism is becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
11:42In Germany, an international congress is debating local responses to this phenomenon.
11:47The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation invited representatives
11:55from 20 countries to discuss the rise of fascism, which has different faces in different countries.
12:06Fascism has always been very present through threats.
12:08Death, repression, control of people's lives, manipulation, corruption, have always been
12:13part of their practices.
12:18Ferz Jadu is mayor of the municipality of Recoleta in Santiago de Chile.
12:23He emphasizes the legal and proprietary dimension.
12:29In our commune, this has translated into legal warfare, persecution by the right wing, persecution
12:34by real estate projects that were outside the norm, outside the law and act.
12:43Because we have regulated them, we have had a very sharp judicial persecution, and somehow
12:48they seek to criminalize the action of the municipality.
12:57Ayala Ferreira also emphasizes property, but in a different way.
13:02She is an agrarian reform activist.
13:07The large landowners defend the thinking of the extreme right.
13:10There are also people who exploit resources, natural goods.
13:14Then, those who do the dismantling, those who practice illegal mining in indigenous
13:21or peasant territories.
13:23Then for me the extreme right are these people who do damage to nature, and also to the people
13:30who live in the countryside.
13:38Of Turkish origin, Ferhat Kocak worked in local politics in Berlin until he was elected
13:43to the German federal parliament in February.
13:46He reports acts of violence by fascists who also targeted him and his resistance.
13:53We organized extensively with churches, trade unions, but also with social democrats, greens
13:58and left-wing parties.
14:00Above all, what we did in the election campaign was to go on a house-to-house tour, talk to
14:04people, discuss with them their social problems and then find solutions and mobilize them.
14:08Because every conversation is an act of anti-fascist resistance in times of hatred and resignation.
14:20With the aim of supporting the local community economically and socially, the Chilean mayor
14:26and the Brazilian activists say.
14:30And so we have been advancing in a series of services, which are services at a fair
14:34price for the community, of easy access, which are universal policies that do not discriminate
14:39if you have a social registry.
14:47This is an example for those who live in the countryside.
14:50The production of healthy food, then agroecology as part of our practice of food production.
14:55We have to offer these diverse, healthy foods to people at a cost, at a fair price, especially
15:01for those who have low income.
15:07Local politicians and activists exchange their experiences and practices in order to establish
15:12more links in the global anti-fascist struggle.

16:08a senior official from the Islamic Resistance Movement of Palestine.
16:12Khalil al-Hajjah, deputy political chief of Hamas, announced the acceptance on Saturday,
16:18calling on Israel not to obstruct the agreement.
16:21Al-Hajjah emphasized that the weapons of the resistance are a red line and that Palestinian
16:26fighters would continue to bear arms as long as Israel maintains its claims over regional
16:32territories.
16:33The proposal includes the establishment of a unity government in Gaza composed of independent
16:38Palestinian figures, a 50-day ceasefire and the release of five living Israeli prisoners
16:44by Hamas, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed receipt of
16:50the proposal and stated it is under evaluation.
16:54Hamas warned that continued Israeli attacks could result in prisoners returning in coffins.
17:05This Sunday, Palestinians celebrated the Eid al-Fitr prayer at the Al-Aqsa Mosque amid
17:10access restrictions imposed by Israel.
17:14The Ministry of Religious Affairs said that the number of worshippers exceeded 120,000.
17:20Most of them coming from the West Bank and other nearby areas.
17:24According to reports, the Israeli army deployed its military and set up checkpoints at the
17:29entrance to the city to prevent Palestinians from accessing the religious compound.
17:34Despite attempts by the occupation, Jerusalem registered a large influx of worshippers who
17:40joined in a prayer for Gaza.
17:50Also in Saudi Arabia, believers joined the Eid al-Fitr prayer celebration on Sunday.
17:56Thousands of religious faithful took part in the pilgrimage to the Great Mosque in Mecca

18:29peace in the Gaza Strip.
18:31The celebration for the end of Ramadan is greeted by the faithful with joy and celebrations
18:37are held including visits to relatives.
18:45In Portugal, thousands of Muslims celebrate the Eid al-Fitr, also called the festival
18:50for the end of Ramadan, in the centre of Lisbon.
18:53The event takes place when the new moon marks the end of the sacred fasting cycle and the
18:58beginning of a new Islamic lunar month.
19:02This celebration also marks a moment of unity, solidarity and generosity for the Muslim community
19:08around the world.
19:09For Muslims, the Eid al-Fitr festival represents joy, a moment of reflection and gratitude
19:15following a month of sacrifice and devotion where their faith is renewed.
19:27This month, the entire Muslim world fasts for 30 days.
19:31After those 30 days, we celebrate together, openly.
19:34That is why, here, the Muslims of Portugal, we started this open prayer back in 2011 and
19:40will continue to do so.
19:43Sudan joined the Eid al-Fitr holiday on Sunday after the army came close to regaining full
19:49control of Khartoum state.
19:51Sudanese faithful greeted the end of the month of fasting and expressed their joy over the
19:56army's recent victories.
19:58Likewise, worshippers declared the greatness of Allah and joyed in prayers with their relatives.
20:05During the holiday, the faithful visit religious temples and visit their relatives as a sign
20:10of joy for Islam.
20:13I am happy, very happy because thank God, the Sudanese army is going from victory to
20:23victory.
20:24The most joyful thing is that people will start returning to their homes, towns and
20:27villages.
20:34Last Eid was very gloomy, but this Eid, thank God, we feel that victory is coming to all
20:39of Sudan, and God willing, we have hope.
20:49This year, Eid came exceptionally especially after two years of war and after the liberation
20:54of Khartoum thank God.
21:00We have all been suffering the displacement issue in Khartoum state, for we are not in
21:04our main homes.
21:19In Portugal, a chocolate festival has offered a taste of the so-called Dubai chocolate to
21:25hundreds of visitors.
21:26The chocolate is believed to have been originally created by a Middle Eastern start-up.
21:32The treat has become a vital sensation due to its unique, crunchy experience and demand
21:38has increased after internet influencers posted videos on Instagram and TikTok showing them
21:44opening the tablets and chewing them voraciously or cooking homemade versions.
21:49In this context, the Dubai chocolate phenomenon has reached Portugal in recent months, with
21:55tablets selling out on the shelves within hours, while retailers have been trying to
22:00meet demand, but many woodshoppers are no longer managing to find them.
