00:43Qatar, according to a senior official from the Islamic Resistance Movement of Palestine.
00:52Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:57Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news.
01:11In Venezuela, during the 25th ALBA-TCP political council, participants rejected the constant
01:17aggressions of the United States government against the missions of Cuban doctors and
01:21Petro Caribe.
01:22During the event, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil rejected the aggressions promoted
01:27by the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, against the cooperation of Cuban
01:32doctors and the Petro Caribe initiative, both of which have been beneficial for the development
01:38of the region.
01:39Gil also urged the progress in the strategic lines identified by the leaders who participated
01:45in the last presidential summit, held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding
01:51of the organization in December 2024.
01:53For his part, the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez rejected the increasing unilateral
01:59coercive measures of Washington against the Caribbean island and several countries of
02:04the region.
02:09In this context, on Saturday, President Nicolás Maduro held a meeting with foreign affairs
02:14ministers of the ALBA-TCP member states in the framework of the 25th Political Council
02:19of the Nations that formed this Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas Peoples
02:24Trade Treaty.
02:25During his remarks, President Maduro highlighted the historic fight of Latin America against
02:30the imperialist pretensions of the US and reaffirmed the alliance's will to keep strengthening
02:36the regional integration and multilateralism for the future.
02:40The head of state also rejected the economic aggressions of the United States government
02:44against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, as well as the situation of the Venezuelan migrants
02:49kidnapped in El Salvador.
02:59They were going with a program, but the government of the United States prefers to raise the
03:04false campaign against Venezuela that this was a programmed invasion of criminals to
03:09the United States, a lie that no one in the United States believes.
03:23Not even those who say it.
03:25Because the economic migrants that went to the United States were stimulated by them,
03:29by the coyotes, they were placed in the main cities of the United States by the coyotes
03:35and the great absolute majority are people who dedicated themselves to work for themselves
03:41and their families.
03:42Now, they want to justify with a big lie the aggressions they are making against Venezuela.
04:00The Venezuelan president also rejected the human trafficking networks perpetrated by
04:05representatives of the extreme right wing.
04:12They are treated as if they were criminals.
04:15I have been told that many of them left neighborhoods here in Caracas.
04:19They paid the coyotes $5,000, $7,000, $10,000, depending on the rate.
04:30Ambassador, I know of a case of a boy here in Petar, right here, who paid $5,000 and
04:38they took him to Atlanta in five weeks.
04:40He was in Atlanta, from his neighborhood all the way to Darien.
04:48The famous Darien and up.
04:51At the border, they received him.
04:53He signed a credible fear and went on.
04:57Likewise, the foreign minister of Nicaragua, Valdraga Janczek, expressed his rejection
05:04of the aggressions in imperialist and colonialist destabilization attempts that threaten the
05:08self-determination of the peoples.
05:14We will continue to call injustices by their name, and we will continue to denounce the
05:18aggressions and attempts at destabilization, the lies and blackmail of the imperialists
05:23and colonialists of always, as well as those lackeys who attack, assault, and try to suffocate
05:29the revolutionary ideals, the sovereignty of our states, and the self-determination
05:33of our peoples.
05:34We will continue to denounce all forms of aggression and unilateral coercive measures
05:39against the dreams of peace and well-being of our peoples and governments.
05:46And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
05:50TELUS UL English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and more.
05:54We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:09Welcome back.
06:19In Myanmar, the United Nations estimates that around 20 million people were affected in
06:23various ways by last Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
06:28The United Nations coordinator in Myanmar, Marco Luigi Corsi, said that at least a third
06:33of the population is suffering the consequences of the powerful tremor.
06:37The damage documented by the United Nations includes 1,690 houses, 670 monasteries, 60
06:47schools and three large bridges.
06:49In addition to the destroyed buildings, there have been cracks in universities, hospitals
06:54and roads, leaving these places unsafe and forcing the evacuation of millions of people
07:00to open spaces or to some shelters.
07:03Faced with the damage caused by last Friday's earthquake, the Myanmar authorities declared
07:08a state of emergency in the regions of Sangain, Mandalay, Magwe, Shan, Naypyidaw and Bago.
07:20Rescue work continues in Bangkok, the Thai capital, following the 7.7 earthquake that
07:26had its epicenter in Myanmar.
07:29The rescue efforts continue against the clock, using drones, heat detectors and 3D maps to
07:35find survivors in the ruins of the large building under construction that collapsed after the
07:40earthquake.
07:41In this sense, the local governor, Sathjot Stitpund, stated that a dozen people died,
07:47most of them workers of that construction.
07:49The governor also highlighted that 79 people were trapped and that 30 of them have been
07:55located.
07:56Meanwhile, work continues with excavators and trains to remove the 20-metre mountain
08:01of debris, together with drones and a remote-controlled robot with sensors and cameras.
08:12In other news, the rise of fascism is becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
08:16In Germany, an international congress is debating local responses to this phenomenon.
08:21Details with a special envoy, Juno Zunar, from Berlin.
08:27The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation invited representatives from 20 countries to discuss the rise of fascism,
08:34which has different faces in different countries.
08:41Fascism has always been very present through threats.
08:43Death, repression, control of people's lives, manipulation, corruption have always been
08:48part of their practices.
08:53Ferz Jadu is mayor of the municipality of Recoleta in Santiago de Chile.
08:58He emphasizes the legal and proprietary dimension.
09:04In our commune, this has translated into legal warfare, persecution by the right wing, persecution
09:09by real estate projects that were outside the norm, outside the law and act.
09:19Because we have regulated them, we have had a very sharp judicial persecution, and somehow
09:23they seek to criminalize the action of the municipality.
09:32Ayala Ferreira also emphasizes property, but in a different way.
09:37She is an agrarian reform activist.
09:42The large landowners defend the thinking of the extreme right.
09:46There are also people who exploit resources, natural goods.
09:49Then, those who do the dismantling, those who practice illegal mining in indigenous
09:56or peasant territories.
09:58Then for me the extreme right are these people who do damage to nature, and also to the people
10:05who live in the countryside.
10:13Of Turkish origin, Ferat Kokic worked in local politics in Berlin until he was elected to
10:18the German federal parliament in February.
10:21He reports acts of violence by fascists who also targeted him and his resistance.
10:28We organized extensively with churches, trade unions, but also with social democrats, greens
10:33and left-wing parties.
10:35Above all, what we did in the election campaign was to go on a house-to-house tour, talk to
10:39people, discuss with them their social problems and then find solutions and mobilize them.
10:43Because every conversation is an act of anti-fascist resistance in times of hatred and resignation.
10:55With the aim of supporting the local community economically and socially, the Chilean mayor
11:01and the Brazilian activists say.
11:05And so we have been advancing in a series of services, which are services at a fair
11:09price for the community, of easy access, which are universal policies that do not discriminate
11:14if you have a social registry.
11:22This is an example for those who live in the countryside.
11:25The production of healthy food, then agroecology as part of our practice of food production.
11:30We have to offer these diverse, healthy foods to people at a cost, at a fair price, especially
11:36for those who have low income.
11:42Local politicians and activists exchange their experiences and practices in order to establish
11:47more links in the global anti-fascist struggle.
11:54And we have a second show coming up, before we invite you to visit our Facebook page at

12:37Welcome back.
12:38Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal presented by Egypt and Qatar, according to
12:43a senior official from the Islamic Resistance Movement of Palestine.
12:47Khalil al-Hajjah, deputy political chief of Hamas, announced the acceptance on Saturday,
12:52calling on Israel not to obstruct the agreement.
12:56Al-Hajjah emphasized that the weapons of the resistance are a red line, and that Palestinian
13:01fighters would continue to bear arms as long as Israel maintains its claim over regional
13:07territories.
13:08The proposal includes the establishment of a unity government in Gaza, composed of independent
13:13Palestinian figures, a 50-day ceasefire and the release of five living Israeli prisoners
13:19by Hamas.
13:20While Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed receipt of the proposal and
13:26stated it is under evaluation, Hamas warned that continued Israeli attacks could result
13:32in prisoners returning in coffins.
13:38This Sunday, Palestinians celebrated the Al-Aftid prayer at the Al-Aqsa Mosque amid access restrictions
13:45imposed by Israel.
13:47The Ministry of Religious Affairs said that the number of worshippers exceeded 120,000,
13:54most of them coming from the West Bank and other nearby areas.
13:58According to reports, the Israeli army deployed its military and set up checkpoints at the
14:03entrance to the city to prevent Palestinians from accessing the religious compound.
14:08Despite attempts by the occupation, Jerusalem registered a large influx of worshippers who
14:13joined in a prayer for Gaza.
14:20Also in Saudi Arabia, believers joined the Eid al-Fitr prayer celebration on Sunday.
14:26Thousands of religious faithful took part in the pilgrimage to the Great Mosque in Mecca,
14:31where Muslims took part in the religious event.
14:34Likewise, Muslims at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina joined the celebration marking the
14:39end of the holy month of Ramadan.
14:47In Russia, the forum Arctic Territory of Dialogue was organized by the Russian Congress Foundation
14:53with the support of the Presidency of the Russian Federation.
14:56The forum is a platform for discussing current issues related to the Arctic region against
15:01the backdrop of climate change and increasing activity in the Arctic.
15:05Let's see more details with our correspondent Oleg Yasinsky.
15:12The international forum Arctic Territory of Dialogue took place in Murmansk on March 26-27.
15:19This Russian city, the world's largest beyond the Arctic Circle and one of the country's
15:23largest ports, hosted representatives from 21 countries and more than 100 Russian and
15:29international companies.
15:35The Arctic is today becoming the center of development of major infrastructure projects
15:40of global importance.
15:41This attracts small and medium-sized companies, which are already represented here and participate
15:46in this forum and in these large infrastructure projects.
15:49So those discussions and those issues that exist are benchmarks and legal accents that
15:53we will now establish and that will provide a great platform for the development of the
15:57Arctic as a center of economic and logistic extension in the future.
16:07The forum addressed such important issues as the development of the Northern Sea Route
16:12as the Arctic's main transportation artery and the construction of rail access to northern ports.
16:17The importance of international cooperation with emphasis on sustainable development,
16:24ecosystem conservation and social initiatives to improve the quality of life in the Far
16:29North through the development of infrastructure and social programs was highlighted.
16:40The Arctic is very fragile, but at the same time it is the future and it is first and
16:44foremost the possibility of developing the Northern Sea Route.
16:48The Arctic is the endless expanse of the Arctic zone, where people also live, and the distance
16:53between the cities is small.
16:55The Arctic today is rich in its natural resources.
17:04The importance of the forum was reflected in the attendance of Russian President Vladimir
17:08Putin, who emphasized Russia's historic role in Arctic development and the need for large-scale
17:13projects over the coming decades.
17:16Russia aims to strengthen its global leadership in the region.
17:27Russia is the greatest Arctic power.
17:31We have advocated and continue to advocate today for equal cooperation in the region,
17:35including scientific research, biodiversity protection, climate issues, emergency response
17:39and, of course, economic and industrial development in the Arctic.
17:43Moreover, we are ready to work together not only with the Arctic states, but with all
17:46those who, like us, share responsibility for a stable and sustainable future for the planet
17:50and are capable of making balanced decisions for the coming decades.
18:00Its great wealth of natural resources, ecosystems, landscapes and above all, its people, is a
18:06call to understand that this territory hides treasures that must be discovered and preserved
18:10for the good not only of rich countries, but of all humanity.
18:30In Portugal, a chocolate festival has offered a taste of the so-called Dubai Chocolate to
18:36hundreds of visitors.
18:38The chocolate is believed to have been originally created by a Middle Eastern start-up.
18:43The treat has become a vital sensation due to its unique, crunchy experience and demand
18:49has increased after internet influencers posted videos on Instagram and TikTok showing them
18:54opening the tablets and chewing them voraciously, or cooking homemade versions.
19:00In this context, the Dubai Chocolate phenomenon has reached Portugal in recent months, with
19:05tablets selling out on the shelves within hours, while retailers have been trying to
19:11meet demand, but many shoppers are no longer managing to find them.
19:23What causes so much uproar is the famous pistachio, the kadayif pastry, also top quality chocolate,
19:29the unique ingredients, the pistachio filling, a lot of pistachio.
19:36Everyone followed the process and I explained about it a bit with my team, and now the moment
19:40to break it into pieces and celebrate with all the visitors.
19:48And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief, but you can find these and
19:52many other stories on our website at www.telestudyenglish.net and join us on social media, we are on Facebook,
