00:25In Ecuador, on Tuesday, a containment dam located in the Cape of River collapsed due
00:30to rains in the middle of the oil spill remediation works underway after the March 13th incident.
00:37And the Palestinian National Council denounces the creation of a sirenist agency to push
00:42for the expulsion of the people of Gaza.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in
00:57Caracas, Venezuela.
00:59We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:17On Tuesday, the Secretary of State Marcos Rubio began today's tour of the Caribbean,
01:22aiming at further restricting the Cuban humanitarian mission, attacking Venezuela's energy sovereignty
01:27and reducing China's commercial presence in the region.
01:30The U.S. envoy's diplomatic agenda includes trips to Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname, which
01:34intend to defend his decision of restricting visas to officials linked to the Cuban medical
01:38missions.
01:40The action against the country's medical personnel has been repeatedly denounced by
01:43the Cuban government.
01:44In addition, Rubio is expected to meet with Guyanese President Irfan Ali under the pretext
01:49of ensuring the country's energy production, with the intention of ignoring the lack of
01:53delimitation of the Ezequiel region, an attempt against Venezuelan sovereignty over the territory.
02:03And on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order that establishes the obligation
02:07to present documents certifying citizenship in order to register and vote in the country's
02:11elections.
02:12According to the leader, states are not adequately verifying voter's citizenship, which would
02:17jeopardize the integrity of the electoral process.
02:20With the order, the Election Assistance Commission will implement a new requirement in its mail-in
02:24voter registration form requiring documentary proof of citizenship.
02:28This action is framing the repeated claims of the head of state about electoral fraud
02:32in the 2020 presidential elections and his persecution of migrants.
02:41And on Tuesday, U.S. President Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Walsh took full responsibility
02:46for messages sent on a private messaging group, where members of the executive branch
02:51discussed the Yemen attacks and other sensitive foreign policy and defense issues.
02:56Walsh admitted to setting up the chat room, which included Vice President James Devance,
03:01Secretary of Defense Pete Hexeth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and even the Director
03:07of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
03:09The scandal unfolded after the editor of a media outlet was mistakenly included.
03:13The executive branch has tried to downplay the seriousness of the situation, but the
03:17appearance of several of those involved before congressional committees has deepened a conflict
03:22that has already drawn international reactions.
03:29And during the Grandparents of the Homeland Center inauguration, the President of Venezuela,
03:33Nicolás Maduro, reaffirmed his pledge to the Venezuelan people to repatriate the migrants
03:37detained in the United States.
03:39The head of state, Nicolás Maduro, pointed out during the event that they are already
03:43pursuing legal action against the Salvadoran government and that a habeas corpus appeal
03:47was filed demanding the release of the Venezuelan migrants who were kidnapped by the U.S. and
03:52held in concentration camps in El Salvador.
03:54For his part, the Venezuelan leader pointed out that the actions of the United States
03:58against Venezuelan migrants are a violation of their human rights and demanded respect
04:02for the same.
04:03In this regard, President Maduro pointed out that the bands of coyotes were controlled
04:07from the U.S. by leaders of the Venezuelan far right.
04:14And in this context, thousands of citizens rallied through the streets of Caracas in
04:17support of the Venezuelan migrants taken under duress to El Salvador by Donald Trump's administration.
04:23Venezuelan authorities explained that the rallies are a response to those who want to
04:27mistreat Venezuelans in the world.
04:30Also at the same time of this activity, in all the Bolivar squares of the country, the
04:33collection of signatures in support of their prompt release continued.
04:40And now we have a short break coming up, first remember you can join us on Tiktok at Televisual

04:48We're going to be right back, stay with us.
05:03Welcome back.
05:11On Wednesday, the Brazilian Supreme Court judges unanimously accepted the complaint
05:15against former President Jair Bolsonaro, ordered him to stand trial for his role in a violent
05:19plot to seize power through a military coup.
05:21In addition, the court decided that seven other close allies of the former president
05:25should also stand trial for crimes, including involvement in an armed criminal organization
05:30and violently attempting to abolish Brazilian democracy.
05:33Jair Bolsonaro rejected the charges in a WhatsApp statement sent to allies as the
05:38hearing began on Tuesday, calling the case against him an aberration, the like of which
05:42has never been seen before.
05:44The ruling leaves the far-right populist facing a possible jail sentence of more than 40 years.
05:56And the Colombian President Gustavo Petro denounced a new coup d'etat attempt based
06:00on the manipulation of the supply of medicines.
06:03The Colombian head of state informed so at the government headquarters in the capital
06:06city of Bogota, where the Council of Ministers was held when referring to several aspects
06:11related to the health of the people.
06:13The progressive government is attempting a reform in the sector which will guarantee
06:17equitable access for all to a quality service.
06:19The proposal has been strongly rejected by sectors of the extreme right related to the
06:24health business.
06:28Because they want to overthrow Petro, because they want a coup d'etat, they are looking
06:32in the commission of the chamber to make it happen, there is only a difference of one
06:36vote.
06:37And we have to know it, because otherwise the people will be caught off guard.
06:41It is the way they are preparing a coup d'etat.
06:44This is the same as with Allende, only that there was no such complexity in the time of
06:48Allende, but with Allende they were hoarding food to get the people to come out to protest
06:52against Allende and that ended in thousands of deaths, and a dictatorship that did not
06:57end in decades, and here they want to do the same for some greedy people that I call vampires.
07:03And more than 400 committees in different cities and municipalities in Colombia have
07:07voluntarily organized to promote the social reform proposed by President Gustavo Petro.
07:12Following the Colombian president's call, the presidential advisor for the regions,
07:15Luz Maria Muneda, announced that spontaneous mobilizations have occurred with the goal
07:20of promoting the initiative throughout the country.
07:22She explained that large and small groups are being formed, including students, housewives
07:26and workers, distributed in the labor, education, health and social sectors.
07:31The council will continue to travel around the country, explaining to the people what
07:35the popular consultation is and why it is being held.
07:43And in Bolivia, a new vaccination campaign was launched through the Rapid Monitoring
07:46System to detect infants and children who have not yet been immunized against a score
07:51of diseases.
07:52Our correspondent, Freddy Morales, with the details.
07:54The so-called rapid vaccination monitoring was initiated to reach almost 60,000 children
08:02under five years of age who, for whatever reason, did not receive their vaccination
08:06doses last year.
08:08It is in the urban areas where we are not achieving a higher coverage, but this is because
08:14of the high migration we have from urban to rural or vice versa.
08:18But generally in rural areas, all the families are well known by the health personnel.
08:21They know their name, their last name, how old they are, and they are more identified.
08:29But in urban areas, it is more difficult.
08:37Rapid monitoring will make it possible to evaluate immunization coverage in the nine
08:41departments and almost 4,000 Burgadas will be deployed in this campaign.
08:47Our coverage is in the 75 percent range.
08:52We aim to raise that to 85 to 95 percent, that's our goal.
09:00The campaign consists of checking, house by house, the status of children's vaccination
09:04records.
09:09When we do a rapid vaccination monitoring, we go and look for children who might have
09:13escaped from that age group and who might be older, we would have to go and recover
09:16them, vaccinating these children in order to avoid the risk of transmission of diseases
09:21such as measles due to the epidemiological alerts that are issued at the international
09:26level.
09:34Health professionals consider that the anti-vaccine campaign that manifested itself during the
09:38COVID pandemic has been overcome, which should be verified in daily consultations.
09:44In this time, the COVID vaccines have been very important.
09:47Now I have had seven patients who have passed COVID, but they are not in serious condition.
09:52They had to be taken to therapy as they were totally discomposed.
09:56Now it is like a cold, but they have to be treated.
10:00Vaccinations have lowered that level of lethality that COVID had.
10:07Rapid vaccination monitoring is carried out in the country's 340 municipalities.
10:12The state provides the 12 doses to be applied between birth and five years of age, which
10:17prevent 20 diseases.
10:19Vaccinations are also offered free of charge for senior citizens and vulnerable groups
10:23against COVID and influenza.
10:31And on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the Secretary General
10:34of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Mark Rutte, a ridiculous and pathetic man.
10:39He described him as such after commenting on Rutte's request to US President Trump
10:44to keep the organization out of Greenland affairs.
10:47The Russian diplomat claims that Rutte, who is supposed to look after the interests of
10:51European countries, is afraid to comment on the Greenland issue in the White House.
10:56In addition, Lavrov calls it a shameful phenomenon that NATO wants to look after the interests
11:01of Ukraine, which is not even a member of the alliance.

11:50Welcome back.
11:57In Ecuador, on Tuesday, a containment dam located in the Caple River collapsed due to
12:02rains in the middle of the oil spill remediation works underway after the March 13th incident.
12:07State-owned company Petroecuador informed of the incident in the cube sector in the
12:12locality of Esmeralda, stating that contingency teams have been immediately activated.
12:18The collapse has prompted the suspension of the San Mateo water treatment plant to
12:22prevent possible hydrocarbon contamination.
12:24The incident comes as President Novoaz Gorlomen has reportedly tried to downplay the scope
12:29of the March disaster, which caused a spill of more than 25,000 barrels of oil.
12:38And in this regard, on Tuesday, a report from the Ecuador National Secretariat of Risk Management
12:42revealed that the March 13th accident along the Trans-Ecuadoran oil pipeline system caused
12:48a spillage of more than 25,000 barrels of oil.
12:51The figure coincides with a report of state-owned company Petroecuador and thus denies the assessment
12:56made by the government of President Nando Boa, whose Minister of Energy and Mines, Ines
13:00Manzano, said there were only 3,800 barrels spilled product of a sabotage.
13:06The incident is already considered the most serious ever recorded in the South American
13:09nation, causing the contamination of several rivers, leaving thousands of people without
13:13access to drinking water and impacting the livestock, agricultural, fishing and tourism
13:18industries.
13:22The forest fires that have been raging in southeast South Korea for the past six days
13:27have so far left at least 24 people dead.
13:29The Disaster Management and Safety Office said the fire, apparently caused by a spark
13:33from a lawnmower, has devastated more than 17,000 hectares and has left some 23,000 people
13:39evacuated.
13:40At the same time, 12 civilians have been seriously injured and another 14 have suffered minor
13:44injuries.
13:45The fire started in Sangcheon County and spread to two other neighboring counties.
13:50The authorities are investigating the causes of the incident while the army has deployed
13:53some 5,000 troops and 146 helicopters to support the fire department in fighting the flames.
14:03An immediate effort to extinguish wildfires in the southeastern region, a water-carrying
14:06helicopter was confirmed to have crashed.
14:08The pilot died when the aircraft crashed near the city of Uiseong, one of the areas
14:13most affected by the flames.
14:15The National Firefighting Agency detailed that the forest fires destroyed more than
14:18200 structures, forcing the evacuation of around 27,000 residents of the localities.
14:38And the Palestinian National Council denounces the creation of a Zionist agency to push for
14:58the expulsion of the people of the Gaza Strip.
15:00This is why the president of the body, Raoui Fatou, affirmed that this evidences a policy
15:04of ethnic cleansing and called on the International Criminal Court to take immediate and effective
15:09measures against the new plan.
15:11The Zionist occupier's finance minister, Bessel Smotrich, announced this week the approval
15:16of an office to organize voluntary transfer for Gaza residents who wish to move to third
15:20countries.
15:21The president of the Palestinian Council assures that these measures are incompatible with
15:25voluntary migration and denounces the genocide and the terrible massacres committed against
15:29the Palestinian enclave.
15:30And in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the wave of violence in the province of Ituri
15:39has left more than 200 people dead and nearly 100,000 displaced.
15:44According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs,
15:48more than one million people have fled their homes due to the armed conflict in the country.
15:53The action of armed groups in the east of the country hinders the delivery of humanitarian
15:56aid and forces the suspension of relief operations.
15:59In addition, in Kivu, the hostilities keep the civilian population at risk of sexual
16:03violence and among other types of aggressions.
16:12And Sudanese authorities reported Tuesday that a new air strike on Tora city in western
16:16Darfur claimed at least 54 lives.
16:18In this regard, the paramilitary forces had held the Sovereign Transitional Council responsible.
16:24The brutal attack had also left 23 wounded.
16:26Political sources detailed half of the victims dead and wounded were women.
16:30United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern about the lack
16:34of respect for the lives of civilians in this almost two-year conflict.
16:43And a severe HIV crisis is unfolding in Ethiopia's Tigray region following a devastating two-year
16:48conflict.
16:49Once a model for HIV prevention with a prevalence rate of 1.4 percent, Tigray now faces a more
16:55than double rate of 3 percent.
16:57The situation is particularly dire among displaced populations, where the prevalence is 5.5 percent,
17:03and survivors of sexual violence who experience rates as high as 8.6 percent.
17:08The war has ravaged Tigray's healthcare system, leaving only 17 percent of health
17:12facilities operational and severely limiting access to antiretroviral therapy and other
17:18essential services.
17:19The crisis has been exacerbated by U.S. aid cuts under the Trump administration, which
17:24have resulted in the dismissal of 5,000 healthcare workers and the cessation of vital support
17:29services for HIV patients.
17:31And this will have come to the end of this news brief.
