00:00An important opportunity to discuss the future of relations between the EU and the United States,
00:09two months after the new Trump administration took office,
00:12is the Transatlantic Relations Convention, New Perspectives and Challenges,
00:16organized by the European Parliament in Italy in collaboration with the American Center for Studies
00:21and the Office of the European Parliament in Washington.
00:24A debate focused on crucial issues such as defense, security,
00:28cooperation for stability and liberal democracies,
00:31international trade and the digital and energy transition,
00:35aimed not only to strengthen relations between Italy and the United States,
00:39but also to reaffirm the values of the relationship that links America to Europe,
00:43such as democracy and freedom.
00:45The Center for Studies, together with various institutions,
00:48among which the European Parliament,
00:50has just now applied to host a moment of reflection with parliamentarians,
00:55stakeholders, journalists, vice-presidents of the Confindustria,
00:58to reason not only about the present, the moment, the here and now,
01:03but also how to work to strengthen relations and relations between the United States, Europe and Italy.
01:09Despite the relations between Europe and the United States,
01:12there are also data announced by the American president.
01:14To face the setbacks that these would determine,
01:17Europe must focus on the development of the domestic market.
01:20Europe has a great treasure that it must embrace, which is the domestic market.
01:24The domestic market can still be developed.
01:26This is the best counterbalance for difficulties
01:30that we will probably encounter in other markets, such as the United States.
01:36The potential for growth, studied by the European Parliament,
01:42is 2,800 billion, so more than the GDP of Italy.
01:47It is a market that we have at our disposal.
01:50If we remove the brakes that at the moment do not allow us to exploit this market,
01:55which are regulatory hypertrophy,
01:58which are investments that are still slowed down because there are too many laces.
02:03Despite the light of the complex international situation,
02:06it is essential that Europe works to try to maintain a close link with the United States.
02:11It seems to me that the feeling that one has
02:14is that we must continue to try to maintain a close link between Europe and the United States
02:23and carry out policies that allow a greater influence of the European Union
02:31also on the international situation,
02:33but always taking into account the importance of a continuation of relations with the United States.
