00:00How has the EU's iron and steel trade transformed since 2019?
00:09In 2024, the EU exported €77.8 billion worth of iron, steel and related articles,
00:18while imports were worth €73.1 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of €4.7 billion.
00:27Compared with 2019, exports rose by 15.2% and imports increased by 23.7%.
00:35Despite increasing in terms of financial value, the physical weight of exports declined by 17.3%
00:42and imports decreased by 1.6%. Turkey was one of the EU's main partners both for exports and
00:50imports in 2024. The country occupied the first place in exports with a total of €6.2 billion
00:57and a third place in imports with €3.5 billion. The United States was the second biggest export
01:04partner with €5.4 billion, followed by the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Mexico.
01:11Between 2019 and 2024, exports of iron and steel to Mexico increased by 54.1%
01:19and to the United States by 51.1%. Meanwhile,
01:23imports from India went up by 89.2% and from South Korea by 43%.
