00:01Crowds of faithful gathered at St. Peter's Basilica as it opened for mourners to pay their respects to Pope Francis.
00:11A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has shook Istanbul, with no casualties having been reported as of yet.
00:21The European Commission has fined tech giants Apple and Meta for failing to comply with its digital regulations.
00:30Crowds of faithful gathered outside St. Peter's Basilica as the body of Pope Francis was transferred there from the Vatican Hotel where he lived.
00:41Pallbearers carried this simple wooden coffin on their shoulders onto St. Peter's Square and into the basilica, cardinals, bishops and the Swiss guards processing slowly behind.
00:51Once inside the basilica, the casket was not put on an elevated bier but simply on an inclined ramp facing the pews, according to the late Pope's wishes.
01:01Mourners are able to enter the basilica until Friday to pay their respects, after which the Pope's casket will be closed and sealed.
01:12The funeral has been set for Saturday morning and will be attended by world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
01:20Cardinals are continuing their meetings this week to plan the conclave to elect Pope Francis' successor.
01:27On Wednesday the body of Pope Francis was transferred to St. Peter's Basilica procession carrying his scoffing enter the Vatican Basilica through the main entrance, the same route Pope Francis had taken to greet the crowd one last time on Easter Sunday.
01:53He will lie in state inside the basilica for a total of three days.
01:58Here mourners can pay their respects ahead of the funeral on Saturday.
02:03And even in death, with his decision to simplify funeral rights, Pope Francis broke with tradition.
02:11Meanwhile, as preparations for the funeral get underway, thousands of faithful will flock inside the basilica to see the body of Pope Francis.
02:19He wanted, with a more austere funeral, less monarchical, if we can say it.
02:29He has renounced to many things to give the image that the Pope, yes, the Pope, but he is not a monarch.
02:39I think it's a way to pay respect to a person that has shaped the Catholic Church, but also, I would say, a significant person in the whole world, right?
02:48As a voice in this, you know, very complex world that we are living in, has been a clear voice, you know, advocating for truth and for justice and nearness to all marginate and poor people.
03:00To see it, for me, to say thank you for what it was, and to remember what he has asked to be, a missionary to all people.
03:10To say thank you for this.
03:11The last greeting.
03:13We came to Natale when he did the Mass.
03:18To me, I'm excited every time I see Pope Francis.
03:22It's something that one feels inside.
03:25With his simplicity, his...
03:27So, it's like this.
03:30Preparations for the funeral of Pope Francis have begun at the St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome, where the late pontiff asked to be buried.
03:46Last year, Pope Francis reformed the rites to be used for his funeral, allowing for such a burial outside the Vatican.
03:56The Basilica had special significance to Francis as the home of his favourite icon of the Virgin Mary, something many worshippers believe speaks to his humility and faith.
04:08I think it speaks about how much he wants to trust himself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
04:17And it's a very, very strong and beautiful message to all of us.
04:22On Tuesday, cardinals gathered at the Vatican to finalise preparations for the funeral and the upcoming conclave to choose his successor.
04:31They agreed that the public will be allowed to pay their respects beginning on Wednesday, once the Pope's casket is placed in St. Peter's Basilica.
04:41The late Pope's body will lie in repose with a closed wooden coffin, rather than displayed atop a bier, as was customary in previous papal funerals.
04:51The funeral and burial have been scheduled for Saturday.
04:56A day after the death of Pope Francis, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed he will attend the funeral on Saturday.
05:08But Franco-Vatican relations have been anything but straightforward, marked by moments of warmth, but also shaped by tensions over issues such as abortion being enshrined in the French constitution and the country's evolving debate on assisted dying.
05:25Although often accused of being cold towards France, Pope Francis visited the country three times.
05:32That's more than any other during his 12-year pontificate.
05:36But these visits were marred by misunderstandings.
05:40The first was in Strasbourg in 2014, when the Pope gave a speech at the Council of Europe and the EU Parliament, but did not make a detour to the city's famous cathedral.
05:52Nine years later, the Pope visited Marseille, declaring,
05:58I'm going to Marseille, not France, a statement that raised many eyebrows.
06:03The pontiff celebrated Mass in a packed stadium and even called for a more compassionate approach to migrants, a subtle dig at the French government's policies.
06:14The people who risk to deny when they are abandoned on the waves, must be saved.
06:24It's a duty of humanity. It's a duty of civilization.
06:29Allegations of tensions resurfaced last December when Pope Francis did not attend the grand reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
06:39Yet, a week later, he visited Corsica, his final trip abroad.
06:44But experts claim it was less about politics and more about proximity to the faithful.
06:50The Vatican has long defended these travel choices, saying they reflect Pope Francis' commitment to the church's peripheries, places overlooked by previous popes, like Montclair.
07:05and Southeast Asia, a Pope who broke a tradition not to distance himself from France, but to reach out to the edges of the Catholic world.
07:30Catholics in the Romanian commune of Raducanen gathered in mourning, following the death of Pope Francis holding a special Mass in his memory.
07:42Catholics are a minority religion in Romania, making up only about 4% of the population.
07:48Around 150,000 people lined the streets of nearby Iasi when Pope Francis visited Romania six years ago.
07:55And mourners remember him fondly.
08:33Following the church service, the community gathered in the cemetery where priests led prayers.
08:42Church bells from the diocese will ring daily at noon during the official morning period.
08:54A 6.2-magnitude earthquake has shook Turkey's capital, Istanbul, says the country's emergency service.
09:04So far, no casualties have been reported.
09:09U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake had a shallow depth of 10 km,
09:14with an epicenter some 40 km southwest of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara.
09:20The shake was also felt in several neighboring regions.
09:24Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, as it's located between two major fault lines.
09:36The European Commission has fined tech giants Apple and Meta
09:40for failing to comply with its digital regulations.
09:43Apple received a €500 million fine for preventing app makers to point consumers to cheaper options outside of the app store.
09:51Meta, on the other hand, received a €200 million fine
09:55because it forced its users to choose between seeing ads or paying to avoid them.
10:00European Commissioner Teresa Ribeira said the law called the Digital Market Act
10:05is crucial to ensure a level playing field for digital players.
10:10Ribeira said that Apple and Meta fell short of complying with the act
10:14and instead have implemented measures that reinforces consumer dependence on their platforms.
10:19Apple announced it was going to lodge an appeal, claiming the European Commission is unfairly targeting the platform,
10:25which they say is bad for the privacy of their users, as well as pushes them to give away their technology for free.
10:31Meta has been contacted for a comment, but has not yet responded with a statement.
10:41Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he will scale back his involvement in U.S. government affairs
10:47and devote more time to the electric vehicle maker after the company reported a steep drop in profits.
10:53Musk told analysts that his time spent on the Trump administration's Department of Government Deficiency, or Doge,
11:03would drop to a day or two per week.
11:06He added that the major work of establishing Doge is done.
11:11Tesla struggled to sell vehicles as it faced angry protests over Musk's increasing involvement in politics.
11:19The company warned investors that changing political sentiment and rapidly evolving trade policy
11:26could have a meaningful impact on demand for its product in the near term.
11:33Musk, who has donated more than $250 million to Trump's re-election campaign,
11:39has faced global protests and calls to boycott Tesla.
11:43And the first time.
11:44And they have done it.
11:45I mean they do not totally get a lot of economic attacks in the opposition of the world.
11:46You can see it.
11:47So it is still not the most important that it is,
11:48you can see it already.
11:49It's got a nice shot.
11:50This is an easy shot.
11:51You can see it.
11:52It has suffered from the U.S.
11:53E-S.
11:54So this is a ship.
11:55It is, you can see the exact same thing.
11:56This is the ship.
11:57We don't get a large ship of the ticket.
11:58A ship, but it is the last year.
11:59We don't do not have any equipment.
12:00It is a gold of the middle there.
12:01The ship is a great to build.
12:02It is something a big company, it has been a big company,
12:06it's a big company.
