00:00Are joining us now the bell of the cable news ball the host of the story right here on the fox news channel
00:04Martha mccallum in the house and the crowd goes wild good to see you. I mean, they're not you crowd surfed in
00:09I know I can hear them. It was it was something the pop down folks. Come on. She's human just like you
00:15Okay, just just take it easy. Uh fascinating time in media right now
00:19I don't even know where to start with you because we're all over the map chuck schumer was just on the view. Yeah
00:24Uh must flee tv. Oh my gosh, but I kind of covered it just the same
00:28Um, I have a fascinating relationship with that show that you don't know
00:32Okay, every tv show that has an audience has a warm-up comic
00:36So one of my a good friend I know is the warm-up comic for the view and whenever I see her in comedy clubs
00:41I'm, usually like 30 minutes removed from making fun of them on a tv show
00:45So she's like a good sport about it and it works out pretty well
00:48But i'm fascinated because I want to hear how schumer did because from what I watched they weren't it wasn't a very warm reception
00:55Yeah right now so, uh, my funny connection story is that years ago
01:00Many years ago. I think I was at cnbc or maybe right before that
01:02Uh, they brought me in to do the view a couple of days to audition to first spot
01:07And um, oh my gosh
01:09this was like the star jones rosie o'donnell days and barbara walters was there and it was I was like
01:15Wow, this does not feel like the right fit for me
01:19At all, like they kept saying like well, that's a little much like you're going a little too much detail on that news stuff
01:24Like we're just going to kind of skim it over, you know, but anyway, um
01:28Fascinating. Yeah, chuck schumer. You could tell he had his lines all rehearsed the whole thing about like, you know
01:33So i'm kind of like an orchestra leader and I know how to get people elected and they need me and I thought to myself
01:39You know, he is definitely at the at the upper end of his career and maybe they're about to push him out
01:46Obviously aoc has her sights set on that seat whether it's now or a little bit down the road
01:50But I thought you know what mitch mcconnell hung in there
01:53Yeah, he hung in there for a very long time exactly on that same premise
01:57I can get people elected and they they have no idea how to get people elected at this moment. So we'll see
02:03Yeah, they that's the one problem for the democrats and especially the younger wing of the party is if the dog ever catches the car
02:09They're really going to be in a now what sort of moment?
02:11Yeah, and that is where they find themselves
02:13Although his bigger problem too though is the two big deliverables
02:16He touted were the special election senate runoffs in georgia in 2020
02:21So he's the orchestra leader, but the band hasn't any hits in a while
02:24No, they haven't you're sitting in a minority in both houses, which isn't the best look
02:28So I wonder because the truth is and this is one thing I did give him credit for
02:33He said when you're out of power
02:34The party has a lot of leaders and he was trying to be a little deferential
02:38But there's clearly a vacuum of power in that party because there's no one tugging them towards the middle
02:44And it's fascinating to me because I don't know who's responsible for handing them the broken compass that they hold
02:50But they're very much in this moment where we're telling the restaurant the food sucks
02:54And they're just offering you bigger portions as a remedy and I don't think that's sustainable
02:58You know what?
02:58I I think it goes back to when they look for the winning formula in the democrat party
03:02You have to go back to bill clinton, uh barack obama and you think about the things they were saying
03:06Yeah, and even hillary clinton and we've been playing these clips a lot lately
03:09Oh, we need a secure border. We have to get we have to make our government more efficient
03:13We have to cut spending. Um work to welfare to work bill clinton's program like the you know bloated entitlement system
03:20We need to make people work for their benefits. Okay, so I think what happened what broke the democrat party is donald trump
03:27That's a good point. I mean
03:29They had a balance they had sort of a a you know
03:33A lever in the middle of the party for so long, but he broke it. They they sent him
03:39He sent them off the deep end and that's why no matter what he says they have to hate
03:45Yeah, so it's like secure borders. We hate secure borders. We want people pouring across the southern border
03:51So if he says, you know, I want a good economy or I want to make the government more efficient
03:54No, we want to keep all those bloated jobs. You can't get rid of them
03:58This whole thing with chuck schumer was so inside out. They always argued in front of you know, no government shutdowns
04:03So then he voted for no government shutdown and they freaked out
04:08So they're it's it's it's trump derangement syndrome
04:11That's a great point and they don't understand like just because is not a plan for governance
04:16like oh trump's doing that we're gonna oppose it just because
04:18And that is very much where they find themselves. It's almost like a party of petulance in this weird way
04:23But it's not appealing to anybody like when you look at their poll numbers across the board
04:27I mean, these are hard. These are not you know, they're not doing well is a nice way to say it
04:31I was borrowing, uh from metaphor because I was going to take it to a better a better place
04:35But martha out of respect for your intellect
04:39We're bridging the divide between you do you host the story. I host a show called you ain't gonna believe this
04:46It's a totally different. I love that show. Yeah, you do and you're great when you come on everybody knows it
04:51All right
04:52Let's have this talk because I I laughed I did laugh at all of this the other
04:55Transactional thing the democrats did is if you remember
04:58They used to tell us the filibuster was a racist relic of the jim crow south even though they had done it over 200 times
05:03Under trump and now they got mad at him for not invoking that so I guess I guess the point i'm trying to make is
05:09Who do you think could emerge?
05:11I know what you said would make them more appealing which is someone to tug them towards the center
05:15But do you see someone right now who could emerge is like that that center?
05:19But you know what? I think right now they are in the desert and I think for their party perspective
05:25That's kind of okay right now. You're you're we're really very new into this. Um into this first term of trump
05:31I think someone will emerge for them and it probably isn't somebody who's on people's minds right now
05:36When you look at republican elections in a similar period it was like, oh rudy
05:40Giuliani is definitely gonna win jeb bush is definitely gonna win
05:43So I think the fact that you know, the person who's polling the highest aoc at 10
05:48Tells you a little something. I mean, they're kind of they're scrounging around for for an answer here
05:53And my guess is that it's going to come from an unexpected place
05:56You know, that's a good republicans were completely in the desert after romney lost they had no game at all
06:03And then along came donald trump. Amen
06:05We're talking to the great martha mccallum and that's probably what they need to do is like a burning man
06:09You don't like you build a village and torch it, but it's the democrats. So it'll be a burn. It's like mel gibson
06:15They could have a burning them. They can't assume the burning guys pronouns. That's another problem for the party just the same
06:21Uh, what did you make of the auto pen thing?
06:23I don't know what to make of it because I don't know what the precedent is
06:26I just this is you know real spitball analysis for biden's sake
06:30I want to believe he didn't sign some of these pardons because they were just so bad
06:34But I don't think we're ever going to be in a position where you can actually ascertain whether or not
06:38That auto pen was done, uh unbeknownst to him. I mean, it's hard to prove you a lot
06:43Yeah, just by you know, if you're able to prove that they were not signed by a human they were signed by auto pen
06:48I think right there that's telling that is the tell whole lot
06:52And the image that is in everyone's mind when you hear this story
06:55Is the big stack of executive orders and trump signing them all with that big black marker. He loves to sign things
07:01He knows the importance of signing things and signing things in front of other people
07:05And then think about the fact that mike johnson said in a free press interview that he asked in a private meeting president biden
07:12So why did you cancel lng sales natural gas sales to europe and he was like I didn't do that. Yeah
07:17That I know but he did
07:19And so it just shows you a detachment from the office that I think is something everyone has suspected for a long time
07:26And I think you're going to learn in the months to come
07:29Who was pushing that auto pen button and it's it's not a good story. Yeah, not a good story
07:34Yeah, I don't think so either and I think that's the next bombshell
07:37You know how everybody's writing their revisionist mea culpa is about you know
07:41There's the jake tapper cognitive decline the time's now doing the covet thing
07:45Uh, we misled you about everything which by the way
07:47They will be telling you the science has settled on climate change
07:50Even though they're admitting the science might have been a little bit off on the other thing
07:53but what i'm fascinated by in this moment is they are everyone's trying to put this fog of war distance between
07:59Themselves and what they were doing at the time, but I don't think they have the capacity and what I mean by that is
08:05The other platforms now outnumber what we would call the legacy media by a massive amount
08:11They don't can I don't I don't know if they know this but they don't control narratives the way they used to not at all
08:16That's the big challenge not at all
08:17I mean, we're in the middle of a huge change in the media and I
08:21You know self-serving as it may sound the answer to the things that you're talking about when you look at covet
08:26Or you look at the cognitive decline of biden is watch fox news. It is true
08:30No, honestly watch what we're because we are analyzing we are digging into these stories
08:35We're not afraid to talk about things that other people are afraid to talk about and so
08:40You know, we are very strong in this regard and it's it's an obligation that you take every single day really seriously
08:46Because you can lose it at any moment
08:48but the fact is
08:49That we talked about these things with regard to covid
08:52We knew that it was going to be very dangerous to keep kids out of school
08:55We knew that not having people come to the office was going to be destructive for a whole generation
09:00of motivation, yeah, and uh, you know with with regard to all of this
09:05It looks just it just we we go back and we say yeah, we were raising questions. I remember brit hume
09:10you know
09:12Early on in this whole thing. He said look, you know, i'm getting older occasionally. I forget things I can look at joe biden right now
09:19I know there's senility there and everyone's like
09:22I can't believe he went there and you know, but in time
09:26Yeah, you know these assessments proved to be correct and uh, it's unfortunate
09:30I think for joe biden that he didn't take the graceful exit when he could have and his family
09:34Maybe is wondering the same thing except they really like the job. They love the game
09:38She liked air force one
09:39She liked the magazine covers and that's the other thing though is everybody in the media who's like wow
09:43The problem is barden stuck around too long
09:45They weren't saying a word about him sticking around too long until their hand was forced
09:49And that to your point is where we do deserve credit, you know when I knew it was a problem in covet
09:54It's really funny. Lincoln was in his second year of middle school spanish
09:58And he asked me what date we celebrate cinco de mayo on
10:02It's like you know what?
10:03This zoom thing isn't working out. We might have to we might have to send this kid back to a classroom
10:08I do remember that so vividly we're talking to the great martha mccallum. It's a wild time
10:14Uh last thing I wanted to throw at you
10:15Um, we could get some jfk files today. Trump says they're gonna be unredacted
10:20Isn't this such like a fascinating bookend to when you probably started?
10:25Exploring this story as a kid
10:27You know what?
10:28I mean because i've been talking about jfk for as long as i've been talking about anything because my aunt and you know
10:32People in my family who really cared but my guess is and maybe you know more about this
10:36Is I don't know that we're gonna get a document that says like we we're doing it on tuesday
10:41Like I don't know that we're gonna be we're gonna leave here today with more answers
10:44Yeah, I I mean it may be like al capone's vault. Yeah
10:46Um, it might not carry the answers that people have really I think enjoyed
10:53Pondering and expanding on in their own minds for all of these years
10:56I mean the answer may be more simple than than people think
11:00I I do think that you know
11:01What's interesting to me is that bobby kennedy jr has raised all these questions about the cia involvement in his father's assassination?
11:07And in his uncle's assassination, so if there's anything that is to be uncovered there, I think it's um
11:13It's well worth digging into but with that and the epstein case
11:17It's like you gotta wonder how many how many little messages and phone calls are going on behind the scenes like you know, what?
11:24Um, if you help us out in this moment, you're gonna you're gonna have something pretty good to we're gonna you know
11:30Whether it's other countries, whether it's um business leaders
11:34But I think there's some negotiating going on behind the scenes a lot a lot of a lot of quiet horse trading happening
11:40Closed doors right now. Well, I always say this is Buckingham palace
11:45That's really funny
11:47But that is a hundred percent what's going on because there's so many power centers involved in this
11:51I always say this is my own theory forgive me for this
11:54But I always say jeffrey epstein's death was proof that the two parties could still work together on a bipartisan basis if they had to
12:01It's just a joke. Ladies and gentlemen. I don't know is it?
12:05Well, maybe but we're gonna for the purposes of my comment we're gonna we'll call it just a joke
12:11There were big air quotes. Listen, I wasn't involved in that story, but everybody I know says he was a great hang
12:17Good night, everybody
12:18Martha mccallum watch her every day on the story
