How much weight can you save scraping off all the burnout rubber? and whats next for the Crewvelle? Big things coming!
Transcript
00:00Check this out.
00:02How the fuck is this door open?
00:04I didn't open this.
00:08What are you doing?
00:10Uh, just testing out my car.
00:12Making sure I fit.
00:14Your car?
00:16You said it, and you said it in front of Rod Caps.
00:18That is...
00:20Yeah, that's true, I guess. I did buy this
00:22saying that it was gonna be yours.
00:24But there...
00:26That was only half-truth, really.
00:28But you do fit in it pretty good, don't you?
00:30Yeah.
00:32Hold on. Here, grab that bar.
00:34Let's close it. Let's see what you look like in here.
00:38Oh, dang.
00:40Yeah, you look pretty badass.
00:42We gotta get rid of the
00:44derby tires on the front and put slicks
00:46back on it, which I'm doing here shortly.
00:48We're gonna pull it out in the sun.
00:50So I can make some room back here,
00:52but what do you think?
00:54Should we put a big block in it or a small block?
00:56Big.
00:58Huh? Big.
01:00Why big block?
01:02Because it sounds better.
01:06Yeah, so I guess
01:08that's one of our projects that we gotta
01:10work on, and that's kinda why I'm getting
01:12this shop cleaned up.
01:14We're gonna pour a concrete floor
01:16in here, and I'm
01:18just out of room in the other end.
01:20So...
01:22We got the four-door Chevelle,
01:24and we got the Chevelle wagon.
01:26So, I think it'd be pretty cool.
01:28All the lights on this thing work, too.
01:30So, we might try and make this
01:32one... It'd be pretty cool to make
01:34this one street-legal, too, and then
01:36me and the wife could do drag-and-drives
01:38together.
01:40But I'd give her a slower engine, obviously.
01:44What's up, guys?
01:46Welcome back to the shop, and today
01:48we are working on the Chevelle.
01:50We got it back here in the shop,
01:52and we're gonna go through it.
01:54I haven't... I've only
01:56started it, basically,
01:58since Sick Week.
02:00So, we got it up
02:02on the hoist, and
02:04what we're gonna do, we're gonna go through
02:06and just check over
02:08things on it, see if anything's
02:10broken, or if we
02:12need to order some parts, because we are
02:14doing a whole bunch of different stuff for it
02:16for this summer. We're putting the
02:18ProCharger on it, we're putting
02:20Holley's new Hi-Ram on it,
02:22Dominator system,
02:24like, we got a lot of work to get done on this
02:26thing, and
02:28one other thing I want to
02:30do
02:32is, I want to
02:34see how much rubber you
02:36accumulate during Sick Week.
02:38So, we're gonna scrape all the rubber out of here,
02:40out of the wheel wells,
02:42everywhere that I can scrape it off,
02:44and
02:46we're gonna weigh it and see
02:48how much rubber
02:50you pick up on Sick Week.
02:52And that includes all the track
02:54time, that includes the big burnouts,
02:56that includes burning off
02:58basically a
03:00new set of tires.
03:02So, yeah, that's what we're
03:04up to today,
03:06and, oh, also,
03:08since the wheels are coming
03:10off,
03:12we may as well
03:14put our
03:16new RC's on,
03:18and
03:20just see how they look. So,
03:22we got a lot going on today,
03:24we'll get this stuff done, and then
03:26one
03:28other thing that we've been doing is
03:30been cleaning the shop.
03:32So,
03:34we've
03:36made a lot of room in
03:38here, like, a lot.
03:40There is still a pile of stuff
03:42that needs to get moved, a lot
03:44of stuff will be going into a
03:46sea can once I get
03:48it here, but it's too muddy to
03:50get it, but
03:52I've thrown a lot of hoarding stuff
03:54away. There's
03:5613 years of accumulation
03:58back there, so it was
04:00about time some of it got thrown away.
04:02So, yeah,
04:04let's get these tires off,
04:06and we can see,
04:08I'm just excited
04:10to see what these RC's are gonna look like.
04:12So, let's get the tires off,
04:14and we'll put the RC's on it,
04:16and see what it looks like.
04:20Alright, so, I love
04:22this new camera I got.
04:28It's
04:30pretty handy.
04:36So, we'll get these wheels off.
04:42So,
04:56the one thing
04:58I don't have is
05:00the lug nuts for
05:02the RC's.
05:04They forgot to
05:06send those, so those
05:08will be
05:10coming in the mail
05:12shortly.
05:22But I really do
05:24love the look of
05:26them so far. So,
05:28there's a lot
05:30of rubber in here.
05:36Yeah, there's a few issues
05:38that we're gonna address with the
05:40rear end. We will be,
05:42we got a spool for it.
05:44So, we did have
05:46another posi
05:48unit inside this
05:50diff come apart.
05:52So, we are gonna
05:54swap it out. We're putting a spool
05:56in it, getting rid of that issue.
05:58And that's one thing
06:00with any kind of racing
06:02is usually
06:04you only have a problem once
06:06with a part because you learn
06:08from it. And
06:10when we broke the diff,
06:12or I guess the posi when we were in
06:14at Gainesville testing,
06:16I didn't think we were gonna have
06:18that problem again.
06:20And I ordered the same thing.
06:22And then it happened again.
06:24So, now
06:26we're getting rid
06:28of the problem. So, Moser sent out a
06:30spool for this diff.
06:32So, that'll be new because
06:34I've never set up a 9 inch before.
06:36So, I gotta completely disassemble
06:38the thing and
06:40put it back together.
06:42So, that'll be interesting.
06:46Alright.
06:48So, we got our RC components.
06:50So, these are 15x10.
06:52And they are
06:54the Fusion
06:56I believe they were.
06:58But,
07:00check it out. They got what in a way
07:02and I just thought that was so
07:04cool. So, I'm hoping
07:12they fit so
07:14beautiful.
07:22So, the one thing with these wheels
07:24is they are
07:26the center
07:28is a lot narrower. So,
07:30I can't really move
07:32you and show you.
07:34But,
07:36the back
07:38spacing is different from the
07:40welds that we have.
07:42And the reason we did that
07:44is by the time we put our
07:46like, redo this
07:48here, we're gonna have
07:50hopefully enough room to put a
07:52315 in here.
07:54That was kind of what
07:56the whole reason I mini tubbed this
07:58and notched the frame was to put
08:00a 315 under this car.
08:02And, with the
08:04power that I'm hoping to put to it,
08:06we're hoping to run
08:08like, close to a thousand
08:10horsepower to the wheels
08:12by the time we get everything else done to the
08:14car. So, that was kind of
08:16the thought process behind it.
08:18But,
08:20I will show you here.
08:24So, that is what they
08:26will look
08:28like. Obviously, we need a
08:30wheel, a tire on there.
08:32But, man!
08:34What? No way! That is awesome!
08:42So,
08:44that's kind of what we're up to
08:46today.
08:50Like, and with how these wheels
08:52are, with the back spacing
08:54I got, there's enough stud
08:56there now that I can run a spacer
08:58if I have to bring them
09:00out a little bit.
09:02But, these things look so
09:04sick on here.
09:06This is actually
09:08easier than I thought it was gonna be.
09:10It just peels off.
09:12Mind you, this is just on the inside.
09:18This is gonna be fun.
09:20There's a lot to do. But, we got this car
09:22going to a show this weekend.
09:24So, I do have to get it
09:26cleaned up.
09:28Alright. So, we still
09:30got the stuff that's
09:32really stuck on here. But,
09:34we got most of it
09:36scraped out. And, it really actually came out
09:38pretty good.
09:42Not gonna get it all.
09:44But, you know,
09:46this pile of rubber,
09:48put my hand on it.
09:50See, that makes
09:52sense. That's
09:54about how much burnouts we did.
09:58So, minus the
10:00piles that were left on the
10:02roadway, too.
10:06So, when we did that big
10:08burnout at KSR,
10:10we left two piles about
10:12that size on the road.
10:14So,
10:16I'm not really
10:18sure
10:20the best way to take all this other
10:22off of the body. But,
10:24we'll figure it out.
10:26And, like I've seen some other
10:28guys, they had
10:30green tape on their paint to
10:32prevent the tire,
10:34the rubber from sticking. But, when
10:36I put green paint on this, it peels
10:38the paint when I take it off. Like when you use
10:40painter's tape. And, case in
10:42point,
10:44all that
10:46is from painter's tape.
10:50So, I'm not going to do that
10:52because then my car is going to be half
10:54pink. So,
10:56I'm going to scrape the other side, and then
10:58I'm going to put this all into
11:00a pile. And,
11:02you guys, in the comments,
11:04guess on what the weight is.
11:06And then, I'll,
11:08we'll weigh it.
11:10Alright, so,
11:12I got most of it.
11:14Ha ha!
11:16So, yeah.
11:18We're going to get
11:20all this piled up.
11:22And,
11:24I've got to find
11:26something to take all this off.
11:28I'm trying to keep my
11:30dackles nice.
11:32But, yeah.
11:36Let me know what you think.
11:38See what the weight is.
11:40And, we'll...
11:42So, here's
11:44the pile with my hand
11:46as compared. This is
11:48one sick week.
11:50There's a lot
11:52more than I thought there was going to be.
11:54So,
11:56yeah. Let me shave some weight.
11:58The crappy thing
12:00is, everywhere that I was peeling it off
12:02was also taking off the paint.
12:04So, that's handy.
12:06But, we got as much as we could.
12:08So,
12:10now,
12:12I'll get that bagged up.
12:14And, we'll weigh it.
12:16But, now I got to start
12:18cleaning this thing. Cause, yeah.
12:20We got to show what it's going to.
12:22I won't have the new wheels on.
12:24Just cause I got to get tires for them.
12:26And, all that fun stuff. But,
12:28um,
12:30yeah. And, get ordering
12:32some parts.
12:34We got a lot that we're doing to this thing.
12:36I did find a few other
12:38things
12:40in the front end. Again,
12:42that I need to address.
12:44We got bushings falling apart again.
12:46So, I'm
12:48starting to think that
12:50it's not
12:52the bushing. Or, it's not
12:54what I've done.
12:56It's got to be something with the bushing.
12:58So, we're gonna
13:00probably switch things up a little bit.
13:02I think. But,
13:04for now, I'm gonna
13:06get cleaning this thing and get it
13:08show ready.
13:10Ha, ha.
13:12So,
13:14I'm just
13:16picking up all this rubber.
13:18And, it's so funny. Like,
13:20I'm finding, like, the
13:22belting from inside the one
13:24set of tires that, uh,
13:26went right down to the steel
13:28belting. It didn't pop.
13:30But, they were really close.
13:32They were throwing sparks and
13:34all that fun stuff.
13:36Yeah. You can see that burnout
13:38on, uh,
13:40on my page.
13:44But, yeah. We'll get all this
13:46gathered up and we're gonna
13:48weigh it.
13:50Get it all
13:52in there. Try to get
13:54none of the dirt. But,
13:56this
13:58is, uh,
14:00more effort than
14:02maybe it's worth. But, hey.
14:04I got a whole bag
14:06full of rubber. Ha, ha.
14:08That's crazy.
14:10Like,
14:12like a whole bag of rubber.
14:14So, I'm interested to see how much it weighs.
14:16Alright,
14:18guys. Let's, uh, let's
14:20measure it. So,
14:22this is all the
14:24rubber that came off of it.
14:26So, we are
14:28zeroed. We'll set
14:30it into there.
14:32Hold on.
14:34Gotta make it so it'll stay.
14:364.735 pounds.
14:384.735 pounds.
14:404.735 pounds.
14:424.735 pounds.
14:44Like, that's, that's basically
14:46two, two tires worth of tread.
14:48That sounds about right.
14:50So, we actually found some cords
14:52in the rubber stuck to the side
14:54of the car. Alright. So, let's,
14:56uh, let's start cleaning this
14:58thing now. I gotta figure out how to get the
15:00rest of the rubber off of
15:02the car itself, too.
15:04So, uh, we got some different
15:06stuff. We'll, we'll
15:08see if it'll work. But,
15:10um, yeah.
15:12Okay. So, we got
15:14one side pretty
15:16much cleaned up. There's
15:18still some down here. This is
15:20expanding foam. Plug
15:22that hole. But,
15:24to give you an idea
15:26what we started out
15:28with,
15:30it'll look like this.
15:32And all the stuff up
15:34here.
15:38So, I was
15:40trying to figure out how, the best way to get
15:42this stuff off. And I
15:44started using CRC's
15:46Heavy Duty Pro Strength
15:48Degreaser because it,
15:50it's actually for
15:52rubber streaks.
15:54But it's not for, like, pieces
15:56of rubber. Like, it works good
15:58for the stuff that is
16:00scuffed across. But one thing
16:02I found that works really good?
16:04Power Lube. This mo-
16:06Hey, Power Lube. It works really good.
16:08Just spray it on there. It breaks down the rubber
16:10and then you wipe it, wipe it down
16:12and it'll leave, like, a whole bunch
16:14of black. But then you spray the
16:16degreaser on it and it cleans it right up.
16:18So, what? No way.
16:20So, yeah. Just keep
16:22a bunch of that in my, in my
16:24trailer, I guess. Or spray the car down
16:26before we run it.
16:28But, uh, yeah.
16:30That's just, yeah.
16:32Just trying to keep the rubber off of
16:34the car. That's going to be the hard part.
16:36And I don't want to use
16:38tape because
16:40it'll peel the
16:42paint off. So, yeah.
16:44We're doing what we can. I'm going to
16:46have to try and get, like, the
16:48majority of this off
16:50better. Because
16:52it's, uh,
16:54there's still too much thick stuff
16:56on here and it's just making it
16:58a pain in the butt.
17:00But, we'll keep working
17:02at it. Alright.
17:04That's, that's clean enough.
17:06For what this car is,
17:08that's clean enough.
17:10Um, so, yeah. Basically
17:12I put Power Lube
17:14all over it
17:16and got
17:18the bulk of it off and then I used
17:20the Pro Strength
17:22uh, degreaser
17:24to get the Power Lube
17:26off of it so it wasn't greasy.
17:28But, uh, yeah. That'll work
17:30for now.
17:32So the car's pretty much ready to go.
17:34There's nothing to do with the interior.
17:36Uh, we're just,
17:38we might give it a little bit of a spit
17:40shine. But,
17:42it's a, it's
17:44not a show car. I just, I want to,
17:46I want people to understand
17:48that when they see the car,
17:50it's not a show car. It's
17:52my daily driver. I drive
17:54this car and
17:56it's just
17:58there, it's rough. So,
18:00it's something that really
18:02anyone could build. That was the whole idea with
18:04it is we would build a car that
18:06anyone could build. So that's what it is.
18:08So, yeah. I'm gonna get
18:10the wheels put back on it
18:12and it's pretty much
18:14ready for the show, I think.
18:16We can,
18:18we'll be able, I got one little leak
18:20on the power steering that I'm gonna
18:22try and tighten up while I got it in the air.
18:24And, yeah.
18:26It's pretty much good to go.
18:28So next time
18:30we get this car in the shop, which
18:32will be on
18:34Sunday, probably.
18:36We're gonna start tearing the
18:38diff apart. We're gonna get that spool
18:40put in it and we're gonna
18:42figure out what else we wanna do in the
18:44back. I gotta measure it up for a
18:46fuel tank. So I'm probably gonna
18:48pump out all
18:50the fuel. I'm gonna drop the tank
18:52because I think with my anti-roll bar
18:54I wanna put in, I'm gonna have
18:56to build a custom
18:58tank for it.
19:00So, yeah.
19:02That's it.
19:04Appreciate you guys watching.
19:06Be sure to like and subscribe.
19:08And, yeah.
19:10We got more Crown Vic stuff coming too.
19:12We're in the planning stages
19:14of what we can do with our Crown Vic.
19:16Now that we got a Crown Vic out and running,
19:18there's so many opportunities
19:20to have some fun with it.
19:22Basically, we'll do
19:24a durability test on a Crown Vic
19:26that, I mean,
19:28I've done one before, but it was highly
19:30modified for
19:32demolition derby. So a
19:34stock Vic, we'll see
19:36what we can do to it.
19:38See if we can do some jumps.
19:40Should we do some jumps?
19:42Yeah, we should do some jumps.
19:44Alright, guys. Thanks for tuning in.
19:46And be sure to like and subscribe.
19:48I appreciate all you watching my videos.
19:50Really, I do.
