00:00It has been quite the year for Emad El-Seghar's Blue Diamond Stud farm. Not only is he the
00:07owner breeder of Nashua, who won the Group 1 Prix to Diane and was third in the Epsom
00:12Oaks, but he also has Zotilla in his broodmare band, who is the dam of Group 1 French 1000
00:17Guineas winner Mangosteen. Andrew Rowland, broodmare manager of Blue Diamond Stud, introduces
00:23us to Princess Lulu, who is the dam of Nashua, and to Zotilla.
00:29Well, this year, I mean, we've got the dam of two classic winners. One homebred that
00:34we bred and foaled ourselves, and another that we bought the mare, so it's all very
00:38exciting. For me and the team, it's a big, you know, we've had some big horses in Decorated
00:44Night, and Jaya, and El Jazee, and we've had some very big horses in the past, but the
00:51breeder and the classic horse is definitely the highlight so far.
00:58Princess Lulu, you know, she was a very good race mare herself. She's had some cracking
01:04foals, obviously Nashua, so far, being the best. She's got a lovely Dabawi colt, a lovely
01:13Dabawi colt, very, very nice. He thinks he's special, so let's hope he's half as good as
01:19she is even, you know, but he's a very nice colt. You know, she's had a few, you know,
01:26Luganini, he was a very good race horse himself. Princess Lulu, for a start, she's a very nice,
01:34kind, relaxed mare. She doesn't really, you know, she's very straightforward, doesn't
01:38cause too many issues. It can be a little trickier to foal because she has bigger foals,
01:43but generally, you know, she's such a kind-natured mare that, you know, she's very straightforward.
01:51Nashua's a youngster. She always, she was one that always, you always find there's a few that
01:56stand out amongst the group. She always stood out quite, you know, she was a later foal,
02:01but she was, you know, she was a big, strong filly, which, you know, in some ways, you know,
02:08bigger, stronger fillies in May, you know, they can come up with more issues, but she never did,
02:14and she was, you know, she was a nice, big, strong filly, stood out in the paddock
02:19and against all the others of that sort of age, and in fact, she was probably, you know,
02:26a month old. She was probably as big and strong as the ones that were born in January, so
02:31she was, yeah, she stood out a lot, and Satilla, we obviously, we brought her
02:38at De Ville, and she, you know, she takes a little bit to settle into her box and things, but,
02:44you know, once she's settled, and we keep them nice and relaxed, they stay in smaller groups
02:49here, spend more time in nurseries until they're about a month old. She's got a, she's got a
02:54cracking foal this year by Tudarn Hart, a lovely filly, but, you know, it just adds to the strength
03:02and depth of the broodmare band. I mean, you start, you start with Arwa, and she's a half-sister to
03:08George, used to end the alphabet with Satilla, who's the dam of Mongerstein, you know, right
03:14bang in the middle, you've got Manasa Rova, who's, you know, got Silca Defence, who's very,
03:19very promising, and then you've got, you know, Fleurette, you've got I'm Wonderful, you've got
03:24Pearling, you've got Princess Lulu and Nerea, and Nerea's obviously the dam of Old Jazzy, who won
03:31at Royal Ascot, so it's coming to a lot of strength at the top end now, and not just
03:37relying on one or two mares, you know, with 10 or 15 mares are in the, in the top class.
03:44We try and sit down as whoever's around as a team and watch the big, you know, as many of the races
03:49as we can, not just the big ones, but, you know, just the, you know, there's quite still, you know,
03:55even though we didn't breed ourselves, we're still, you know, we've got the broodmare, we're
03:59adding to the, adding to the quality of the mare band, and that is important for all the staff,
04:05and, you know, everybody was cheering her on, we tend to watch it here in the office if we can,
04:10and everybody was cheering her on nearly as much as, as Nashwood.
