00:00On the first day of his visit to the Philippines, Japan Defense Minister Nakatani Jen,

00:07as part of his inspection of the radar facility at Wallace Air Station in San Fernando, La Union,

00:14Japan, bought the Philippines a Fixed Surveillance Radar System that arrived in 2023

00:21and can detect foreign ships and aircraft within 300 nautical miles instrumented range.

00:27Last year, the Mobile Air Surveillance System was turned over.

00:58Two more radar systems from Japan are expected to arrive in the country,

01:03which is a part of the Php 5 billion Air Surveillance Radar System Project

01:07for the Philippine Air Force, a Japanese firm.

01:10Defense Secretary Kiboto Yodoro said,

01:13as part of the negotiations, the purchase of additional radar systems from Japan,

01:18where he gave the importance of such capabilities

01:22to protect our country with the help of Domain Awareness.

01:28Domain Awareness is extremely important so that we have a picture of what is happening

01:35on the airspace, principally on the airspace, within our Philippine Air Defense Identification

01:43Zone. Because if we are not aware, then we will not know what threats exist.

01:49This Monday, Nakatani and President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will hold a meeting

01:56where they will discuss various security measures between the Philippines and Japan.
