00:18President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. called a meeting in Malacanang where he talked about smuggling.
00:25The meeting was also part of the discussion of the government's efforts to control the price of food products.
00:32On September 26, 2024, when the President passed the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act,
00:39the effective steps to avoid the entry of smuggled agricultural products were expected to be implemented.
00:47Under the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, it is also expected to be implemented the proper payment of taxes and fees.
00:53The law also stipulates that the punishment for smuggling agricultural products is not only for the masterminds, but also for those involved in smuggling agricultural products.
01:05Let me be clear, this law does not just target the masterminds.
01:10It holds all accomplices accountable.
01:13Financiers, brokers, employees, even transporters.
01:16Under the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, it is the establishment of a council led by the President himself
01:24and formed by various government agencies and entities from the agricultural sector.
01:30It aims to ensure a proper and effective implementation of the law against illegal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, profiteering, and cartels in the agricultural sector.
01:41It also has an Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Enforcement Group, a special unit established under the law
01:49to carry out operations against smugglers in the provisions of the law,
01:54particularly in cases related to economic sabotage in agriculture.
02:00At the same time, Agriculture Secretary Francisco T. Laurel,
02:04the government will be more inclined to pursue smugglers, and this can still be achieved under the Republic Act 12022.
02:15We are more inclined to pursue these smugglers.
02:21We hope that you are not afraid of illegal smuggling because it is non-payable if you get caught.
02:31For Maligtang Pambansa, Alvin Baltazar, Radyo Pilipinas.
