00:00Always love hooking up with the mega talented voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide on football basketball across the board Chris Stewart down in Tuscaloosa
00:09Good to see you Chris. I want to start with this. I thought that like let's be real here. I thought they started February
00:17Pretty solid. I thought the tide were doing their thing. No problem blowout, Georgia
00:22You get by the Hogs at Bud Walton in Fayetteville tough game, but you find a way I like that
00:28You blow out, Texas at Moody in
00:31Austin I mean you just smothered them and then you lose at home to Auburn
00:37I watched the game last Saturday. I don't think that's anything to hang your head over. They're a really good team
00:44Obviously you wanted them in Tuscaloosa, but you didn't get it done
00:47And then you go to Columbia which people are finding out how brutal that place is to play in
00:52Against that team and it was a tough couple of games for the tide
00:57But like I said when you're playing in really good teams
01:02Whether it's at home or on the road
01:04It really isn't a true sign of who you are if you fall to great teams
01:10Alabama was in those games. They just didn't win them
01:13How did you feel about how things have gone from the start of the month to the last two games?
01:19Yeah, I think you you hit the nail on the head that it's the nature of the league I mean you're sitting here looking at
01:27Potentially 13 teams or really 13 teams that are in the mix for the NCAA tournament
01:32Which is unheard of are all gonna get in probably not but it's it's an indicator of how good the league actually is
01:41But it doesn't matter to you when when you're the one trying to win and you're you're tied for first in the league
01:47You're
01:49Basically co number one because one polls got you number one. The other one had Auburn and it look big proof
01:54They're the best team in the country right now without question
01:57But but you're right there one week ago and we're all pumped and excited in Tuscaloosa and state because we've got the biggest game
02:04Not the biggest matchup because we've played with with games that have been on the line
02:09But for an Alabama Auburn matchup to have one versus two, it's
02:13It's never happened so it's how it's happened in history of the SEC that you've had one versus two so it was huge
02:20There was a lot on the line and you didn't get it done
02:22And I think that's the disappointing thing all the respect in the world for both Auburn and for Missouri
02:29Especially where you played but it's the fact that you didn't play your best or anywhere close to it
02:34People talk about them and being a three-point shooting team and they do it as well as anybody in the country
02:39But that's not all of who they are
02:41They didn't beat excuse me, they didn't lose to Auburn because they couldn't make threes
02:46They lost to Auburn because they couldn't make threes
02:49They missed way too many layups and they didn't defend at the level they need to at all
02:54So they literally they literally let him shoot
02:58I think almost it was like almost 50% from the floor when no one does that against Alabama
03:06I think it was like 47% or something
03:08But they literally had never allowed that in
03:13Tuscaloosa to anybody to see that team and we know how legit they are a Broom and company
03:18They had five other guys in double figures in that game. I watched the game. I was sitting there going. Oh my god
03:24They're almost shooting 50% from the floor. It's unheard of against an Alabama defense
03:31No, and they came out, you know, they they go they're up nine nothing to start the game
03:37They win by nine
03:39Alabama turns around Nate switches the lineup just a little bit and it wasn't because he said of the
03:46It what do you think like Jared Stevenson was out of lineup first time in a long time that he hasn't started
03:51He was coming off of one of his best games of the year
03:55Against Auburn statistically said I'm any man. I was in the meeting. He said I'm not
03:59Taking you out of the starting lineup because of anything you've done wrong. I'm trying to get our rotation set better and
04:05Very
04:08That very night that game
04:11Against Missouri you fall behind 12 nothing and then I think you lose by a dozen so starts matter
04:18It's not all about that. But your starts absolutely can matter
04:22In terms of the outcome they have for Alabama. They got to be better out of the gate. You're right
04:27There's no shame in losing the two games that you've lost
04:30But the reality is you got Kentucky Saturday you got Mississippi State who's the top 15 top 20 team
04:37next week you got
04:39Tennessee on the road after that then you go, Florida Auburn to finish the year
04:44So you tell me where the the get loaded the get well game is there's not one
04:50That's just brutal. I mean, I'm sitting here laughing because it's so brutal that schedule. I can't even breathe, right?
04:57Just hearing that schedule makes me like skip breath
05:01Let's talk about the first half at Columbia like 10 turnovers
05:05Led to you know buckets and I think they got in a hole with sloppy
05:11turnovers and you know
05:13I go to games all the time and I my daughter plays at a high level here and
05:18She's a really good player and I go to her game then they turn the ball over
05:21I went to this game last Saturday and they turn a ball over like 30 times
05:25I'm like, oh my god, you wonder why you lose you
05:28Go down and turn the ball over every time you don't get a shot. It's the kiss of death
05:33I thought the turnovers against, Missouri killed you
05:37No, I it definitely did not help. It was a big part of it in that first half
05:42No question they did better in the second half out scored him 51 to 50
05:46I think in in the second half
05:48But the damage had been damage was done and not that they didn't play it times
05:53Well cut it to six I think with about three minutes to go
05:57but
05:59You know just just too many mistakes and that's been a key throughout the course of the year when you make
06:0515 or 17 threes, whatever it was
06:09against Texas
06:11you could afford to turn it over 17 times like they did but
06:16Even against Auburn where you do a great job of hanging on the ball only turned it over seven times
06:23You may as well have turned it over more because you missed so many layups in that ballgame and Auburn was even better
06:30They only turned it over four times the entire game
06:32so there's there's obviously work to be done to be from a consistency standpoint and
06:39And Nate and I talked about it after the the Texas game
06:43It's not a shock that they didn't shoot it
06:45Well from three because it's called an average for a reason and when you shoot above that in one game
06:52I mean, obviously the stats are and Nate's a former math teacher at high school. He loves numbers
06:58That's what so much of what they do is built on
07:00I mean even he knows you're liable to come off of that and not shoot it as well the next ballgame
07:07But like we talked about
07:10turnovers against Missouri, but missing
07:14Shots right at the rim some of which Auburn
07:18Deserves credit for because not only did they block six shots. I believe in that game
07:23They they make you think they're gonna block everything. So you're you're a little leery, but there's you know, there's five that Bama
07:31You know, it's as if they were in the gym by themselves and just missed them right at the bucket
07:36That's how often they worry that that adds up
07:39So I was 9 of 11 from the floor wins and I told Nate if he needs another big
07:44I'm 6 4 2 40 and I go down low and I get it done. I put it in the 10
07:48I got a nice little touch inside, but here's the deal you guys score more than Kentucky you rebound more than Kentucky
07:54you're 10 and 2 at home if you
07:58Shoot like you're capable score like you're capable and rebound like you're capable and play like you're capable at home tomorrow at Tuscaloosa
08:06You beat this team. Am I right?
08:09Yeah, you're absolutely right because you've already played them at Kentucky and beaten them and they did all the things that you talked about
08:17They didn't probably defend as well as they would like but but they need to it's been kind of weird
08:22They've actually played better on the road than they have at home
08:26They've lost the two conference games, but they've had some other close ones, but they just didn't play as well
08:31But hopefully that's gonna flip and they'll they'll flip the switch the right way more
08:36Yeah, and then how about that you're right the Mississippi State game is Tuesday night have fun with all that stress
