00:00Well, the biggest move of the offseason went to the New York Mets.
00:03They signed Juan Soto, but you knew that already.
00:05But what you don't know is maybe the rest of their lineup.
00:07This is projected courtesy of Fangraphs.
00:09Craig and George, back with you, as Lindor leads off.
00:13He has been a superstar virtually every year of his career.
00:16My gosh, how good is he?
00:17Juan Soto, Pete Alonzo's back with the Mets.
00:19Brandon Nimmo, the star-in-waiting, maybe Mark Vientos,
00:24who was so good for them last year.
00:25Jesse Winker, Francisco Alvarez.
00:28McNeil had such a rough season last year,
00:30you would think there'd be some bounce back there.
00:32And then the Mets acquired Jose Siri to play the outfield.
00:34Really interesting not pictured there, George.
00:37Once upon a time, probably four or five years ago,
00:41you couldn't get out of the second or third round
00:43without taking Starling Marte, right?
00:4520 home runs, 20 stolen bases,
00:47always really good with Pittsburgh,
00:48then Arizona, Miami, was a really good player.
00:51Seems to be coming to the end of the line,
00:52maybe, as a starter there, which is a little bit surprising.
00:55And maybe it shouldn't be,
00:56maybe the Mets just go out and do whatever they want.
00:58Cohen signs whoever they want, that's what they do.
01:00He says he wants more fans there this season.
01:02I think they're gonna get it.
01:04This is a fantastic, George, one, two, three.
01:08Fantasy, reality, starting lineup.
01:10This is a tough to beat in all of Major League Baseball
01:13to see those three names at the top of the lineup.
01:17Yeah, hitting's not gonna be the Mets' issue.
01:19They're gonna hit, right?
01:20And they're gonna hit a lot.
01:21I don't think there's any doubt about that here.
01:23Everything you said is true there, Marte,
01:25but there's a lot of talk about Marte here.
01:27He's sort of been told,
01:28do you want to be on the wrong end of a platoon
01:29or would you like us to find you another team?
01:32So as to how true that is, who knows?
01:34But he would be on the wrong end of a platoon here,
01:36as the righty and the righty left the platoon with a winker.
01:39I don't know how many left-handers you're gonna see there,
01:40although I think teams will throw more left-handers
01:42at the Mets, hoping to neutralize Juan Soto.
01:44But the Mets, a lot of good right-handed bats.
01:46I mean, the Mets are gonna hit.
01:47It doesn't matter who you throw at, the Mets are going to hit.
01:49It should be a fun team hitting.
01:51They sort of remind me of the 80s Yankees,
01:53the late 80s Yankees, where, boy, Yankees could hit,
01:56but they couldn't pitch.
01:57All right, a lot of, you know, a lot of overs,
01:59is what I'm trying to tell you about the Mets.
02:00A lot of team overs, a lot of game overs here,
02:02a lot of 9-7 games coming up in their future here,
02:04but they'll be a fun team to watch.
02:06And they will draw more this year.
02:07The Mets, remember, the Mets started off terrible last year.
02:10They lost their first five games
02:11and they never really turned it around
02:12to the second half here.
02:13So they'll definitely draw more here.
02:15But hey, Steve, if you want people to come to the games,
02:17you might want to lower those prices, all right?
02:19And I don't mean just the parking,
02:20which they did this week.
02:22Parking was 60 bucks, they lowered it to 40 bucks.
02:24Well, maybe it's the ticket price,
02:25then the concession price and everything else.
02:27We want people to really come to the games here.
02:29Family of four can't afford to go.
02:32Yeah, no, it's, look,
02:33sports have gone up a lot in every way,
02:35and that's just the nature of the beast.
02:38Juan Soto, where is he going in fantasy draft, George?
02:40Is he, where exactly would you take Soto this season?
02:46Well, we already discussed last week, right?
02:48Judge, Witt, Otani, there's your one, two, three.
02:51I think Soto would go anywhere after that.
02:52You know, I have him more at six.
02:54You know, I think that's where he's going to go
02:56in the Mookie Betts range.
02:58He said, he's not going to hit 40 plus home runs, right?
03:00Yankee Stadium certainly helped him last year,
03:02but he'll hit 32, 33.
03:03So you find, yeah, the average is going to be great.
03:05Everything's going to be great.
03:06Driving a million runs,
03:07he's going to score a million runs here.
03:09So I have no problem with him from four on.
03:11I am at six, but if someone drafts him at four,
03:13I'm not arguing with you.
03:14I just wouldn't take him ahead of Witt, Otani, and Judge.
03:17That's it, after that, you're good.
03:19Yeah, 27 home runs last season, George,
03:22for Mark Vientos at third base.
03:24Like that was one of the big surprises
03:26for the Mets last season.
03:27Can you do it again?
03:30Boy, he was good last year.
03:32You know, I like when young players,
03:34when they realize it, right?
03:35Then he realized, he figured it out.
03:36Remember, Brett Beatty was supposed to be
03:37their third baseman.
03:38Brett Beatty got a brand new SUV yesterday
03:41from Juan Soto, by the way, for giving up 22.
03:44Good for him.
03:45By the way, Beatty, they need to trade him.
03:47He needs to get out of there and get to another team.
03:49So he gets a shot.
03:50It's not gonna be with the Mets.
03:52I think Vientos will do it again.
03:53Yeah, a little bit of softball jinx, sure.
03:55Baseball is a game of adjustments here.
03:56Teams have certainly looked at him,
03:58trying to find a hold in the swing during the offseason.
04:00Can he make those adjustments?
04:01I think he can.
04:02I think he's going to be a star.
04:04Wouldn't call him a star already.
04:05Gotta do it again.
04:06But I think he's going to be a star.
04:07I think the Mets have themselves something there.
04:10That being said, not the greatest defensive third baseman.
04:13Not Rafael Devers, but he's not too far off that either.
04:17Now, the starting rotation already took a hit with
04:19Frankie Montas being out for a period of time.
04:21But unfortunately for Frankie Montas,
04:22we've heard that before on teams that he's been on.
04:24So the Mets are going to have to pick up the pieces here.
04:27They already did with the acquisition of Clay Holmes.
04:30They've decided to make him into a starter.
04:32That's definitely one of the more polarizing
04:34fantasy stories of the season.
04:36Can Holmes pitch 130 innings in a season?
04:39Can he make 25 starts?
04:40It'll be fascinating to see.
04:43Kodai Senga to me, George, one of the more underrated players.
04:45I think we just forgot about how good he was,
04:48missing some of last year.
04:49Sean Mania, his best year ever, got him a multi-year contract.
04:52But I think as you said, George, you look at these names
04:56and you're like, oof, like, I don't know.
04:57Like, is this good enough to get you to the trade deadline
05:01when you maybe acquire someone?
05:03And, you know, hard to blame the Mets to do more.
05:06I'm not saying Montas was the savior here,
05:08but they felt like they at least had a number three
05:10or four starter here.
05:11I don't think we're going to see him for a while.
05:14Montas took me in June when we see him.
05:17Listen, Montas, he was a nothing anyway, in my mind.
05:20Three or four, I think, was being nice.
05:21I had more four or five, a depth starter,
05:24which they have a ton of.
05:25All right, listen, Mania, all right.
05:28Can you do it again?
05:29Did you figure it out?
05:30I know the new arm slot, you were sort of more like Chris Sayle.
05:33Okay, I need to see it again.
05:35Kodai Senga, just stay healthy.
05:36I know you're a decent pitcher here.
05:38Two, three.
05:39After that, this is all depth.
05:41All right, Peterson, Holmes, Blackburn, Canning.
05:43You want to throw Montas in here.
05:45I would have liked to have seen one more good starter.
05:48He would have loved Corbin Burns going here.
05:49I know Burns got a ton of money here,
05:51but it's not like Cohen can't afford it,
05:52and he assigns everybody else here.
05:54One more top starter, and I would have loved the Mets,
05:57loved what they did here.
05:58But hey, you know what?
06:00You didn't do it.
06:00And if, like I said, this is the 80s Yankees.
06:03It'll work during the regular season.
06:05You can win a lot of 8-6 games during the regular season.
06:07It won't work during the playoffs.
06:09It's not going to work during the playoffs.
06:11You're going to need, I think you're sort of hinting at,
06:13at the deadline, you're going to need that guy.
06:15Whoever, you know, comes loose from another team.
06:17And the Mets, by the way, have the prospects to get
06:19whoever they want.
06:20All right, they can go out and get anybody.
06:21Their farm system is good.
06:22So maybe that's what they're waiting for.
06:24See, well, who's going to come loose?
06:26Who's going to be this year's Garrett Crochet
06:27that they can go out and get by the deadline?
