00:00Eight years have passed since the Battle of Manila broke out on February 3, 1945 to shed
00:06light on new information, insights, and perspectives.
00:09This significant event, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines brought together
00:14representatives from the Philippines, United States, and Japan to engage in a conversation.
00:20Jana Panetta from Philippine Information Agency, National Capital Region, tells us more.
00:28In a historic occasion, representatives from the Philippines, Japan, and the United States
00:32gathered together to engage in a scholarly conversation 80 years after the Battle of
00:37Manila broke out in February 1945.
00:41This gathering took place at the international conference organized by the National Historical
00:45Commission of the Philippines in close collaboration with the Philippine World War II Memorial
00:49Foundation with the goal of providing a deeper understanding of war history beyond telling
00:54the nation's side of the story.
00:56The participants of the conference shared war memories in the context of history and
01:01researched the studies that mostly tackled the plight and bravery of Filipinos during
01:05the war.
01:06Generally speaking, we are not taught much about what happened in the Philippines 80
01:14years ago.
01:15So now I'm learning myself what happened because as a Japanese I feel it's really painful
01:30what our ancestors committed to the Filipino people.
01:37They must not forget what sacrifices the Filipino people made during the war.
01:45No one asked them to do it.
01:49They were not ordered by the Americans.
01:51They were not ordered by anybody.
01:54What they did was, it's really salaob, you know, the heart and the strength of the Filipinos.
02:07Commemoration, information, and cooperation.
02:11These were the important goals that were promoted through this conference towards shaping a
02:15more empowered nation and keeping the history alive.
02:18From the Philippine Information Agency, National Capital Region, Joanna Pineda, Balitang Pambansa.
