00:00The powerlifters from different parts of the country showed their strength on the opening day of the SBD Philippine Nationals.
00:08Here is the report of Teammate Jamyca Bayaka.
00:14The body is strong in fighting.
00:18Young or old, powerlifting does not matter.
00:22At the SBD PH Nationals opening in Quezon City,
00:26powerlifters from different parts of the country proved that powerlifting is for all ages.
00:34Just like the youngest powerlifter in the Philippines, Dani Annie Hotray, who won a silver medal in a competition.
00:41At the age of 5 years old, she defeated other athletes in the Girls Developmental Category.
00:48The fear and anxiety is there, but we are very happy with my daughter's performance.
00:53Because earlier in the morning, she was not in the mood.
00:59So at least now we saw her performance so well.
01:03The gold medalist, Luisito Manuel, also proved that his age is not a barrier to win the medal.
01:11For old people like me, it's not the end of the world.
01:14Because I started when I was old.
01:16I started when I was 50 years old.
01:18So it's still possible.
01:19The heavyweights in the second part of the competition were also highlights of the night.
01:25Some of them were already represented by the country in international competitions,
01:30like Jessamay Tahuan and Veronica Umpol.
01:33Meanwhile, Angela Gonzalvo is a crowd favorite.
01:36Even though the preparation was short, she still showed her skills in powerlifting.
01:41I actually really had a rough prep.
01:43Because I had dengue 2 weeks ago.
01:45So I wasn't able to prepare well.
01:47But I'll still try my best.
01:49Of course, it's a waste of experience.
01:51And I also worked hard for it.
01:53So I don't want to rob myself of that experience.
01:56According to Eddie Torres, former president of the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines,
02:01events like this have a big impact on the recognition of powerlifting in the Philippines.
02:07Powerlifting is growing in our country.
02:12In the province, it's increasing.
02:15And then the kids, the kids are also increasing.
02:18So there's a lot of potential for sport.
02:21The competitions of PAP, it's for everyone.
02:25All ages, all levels.
02:29There are novice, category.
02:32Then there are regional competitions.
02:35So it's all covered.
02:37The tournament director, Esmeralda Cruz, also pointed out that there are more programs to be expected
02:43to strengthen not only powerlifting, but also other sports in the country.
02:49We're looking forward to working with the Powerlifting Association to potentially host more events.
02:55Not only nationals, but maybe something for the grassroots as well.
02:58Our novice lifters.
03:00Time will tell what our future projects will be.
03:03But definitely, SBD is interested in growing, not just powerlifting, but strength sports in general.
03:09On the first day of the competition, powerlifters from different parts of the Philippines showed up.
03:17It is expected to continue until tomorrow here in Skydome in Quezon City.
03:23Jamaica Bayaka, for Atletang Pilipino. For a new Philippines.
