00:00The various branches of the government have joined forces for the AI Capacity Building Initiative.
00:05This can be done by the police up to the proper use of AI that can help in the development of various sectors.
00:13Rod Laguzad has the details.
00:18It can help to pass laws, particularly in the proper use of Artificial Intelligence or AI.
00:25This is the goal of the DOST, DICT, DTI, and other agencies for the AI Capacity Building Initiative
00:33of the British Embassy and experts from the Alan Turing Institute, the National Institute of Science and AI of the UK.
00:40According to DICT Undersecretary Giselle Batapasigue, this is a big thing for the government to do for policing, not AI.
00:49Especially this can help in various sectors such as agriculture and health.
00:54This can also help to understand the risks or dangers brought by Artificial Intelligence.
00:59What we need in the Philippines is really a coherence.
01:03A coherence of the standards and policies and regulations.
01:08And at the same time, we need to work together.
01:12Not only the policies that we see here, you also have the use, the actual use of the emerging technology.
01:20You also have ethics, you also have scientific research.
01:26In addition to DICT, there are LGUs who are willing to have similar training.
01:31At the moment, there are conferences in Congress about AI.
01:35In addition, the President is interested in how AI can help the economy in the coming years.
01:41On the part of DOST, it also gives the importance of giving attention to ethics in the use of AI.
01:47Ethics and governance should not be an afterthought.
01:52It should be planned from the get-go because of the different risks and challenges that can be had for implementing AI.
02:01We need to think about the people, the benefits or the social impact, not just the economic impact, of the projects that we're implementing in DOST, for example.
02:11Along with giving attention to the four days of training, there are many other things related to AI governance.
02:17Discussion on the ethical questions that arise from how AI systems are being developed, the different risks associated with those,
02:25and then really move into thinking about how to address those risks and how to manage those risks to ensure that AI is used responsibly.
02:35They say that the Philippines is in an important position when it comes to the implementation of regulations on AI.
02:40All governments now are realizing you can't just create artificial intelligence and models and plunk it into the economy and think, okay, job done.
02:53That governments have a really important part in this and citizens have a very important part in this to say, wait a minute, what are the limits?
03:01Just like if people have a voice, what kind of data or information can they collect?
03:07Rod Laguzad for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
