00:00A controversial change in the constitution of Malaysia Athletics has seen an attempt
00:06to push its elections to next year.
00:09The recent amendment extended the office-bearer's terms from three to four years with a limit
00:14of two terms, paving the way for MA's President Shahidan Qasim and his office-bearers to remain
00:20until June 30th next year.
00:23It came with a change of name from Malaysia Athletics Federation to Malaysia Athletics
00:28on January 15th this year.
00:31Some affiliates are furious that there might be no elections for office-bearers at MA's
00:35annual general meeting on June 30th.
00:38They wonder whether the leadership fear is being challenged.
00:42Shahidan took office in 2022 for a three-year term.
00:46He previously served as President of the National Body from 2006 to 2012.
00:51The plan, according to a source, is for the council members to adopt the changes immediately
00:56at the coming AGM so that elections could be postponed to next year.
