00:00Well, an anti-climax to what the matches we've had in the last seven games.
00:05All were close games, but this was a match where we expected runs to be scored.
00:17Hi guys, and welcome once again to Straight Bat with Mr Cricket UAE.
00:21That's Anish Sajjan and Gulf News.
00:23We've had another cracker again tonight, unlike all the other games so far.
00:27But first of all, let's say hi to Anish and see how he's getting on.
00:48Thank you for calling us beautiful.
00:51I just want to say that it was, I think in our prediction last night,
00:59or in our preview last night, we said we highlighted the Chennai bowling problems
01:07and the really strong Punjab batting.
01:11Completely opposite that happened today.
01:14Punjab's batting was absolutely terrible.
01:17Chennai, especially with Chahar, really showed that they can bowl when they need to.
01:23And obviously it was a very, very low scoring match. Punjab 1-0-6.
01:27And Chennai getting there with many overs to spare.
01:31They could have got there a lot earlier had they not struggled in the death overs.
01:34Well, not death overs, but their own death overs.
01:37So quickly, Anish, we'll start with you.
01:40What's your take on what was a very strange match?
01:43Well, an anti-climax to what the matches we've had in the last seven games.
01:47All were close games.
01:49But this was a match where we expected runs to be scored.
01:52But I remember during the wicket, they said it's a fresh wicket.
01:55And even Dhoni had said that the Mumbai wicket does a bit in the early few years.
01:58So you've got to make sure that you see off that three, four overs.
02:01Then probably attack or up the ante.
02:03Whereas Deepak Chahar was all over Punjab.
02:06And the ball which he got, Mayank, I believe was the ball of the tournament.
02:10It was sung late.
02:12And all the Punjab batsmen were at sea.
02:16Early call for the ball of the tournament. Interesting.
02:20So, Ahil, what's your take on the match then?
02:23You should probably, for once, have got a smile on your face.
02:26Oh, yeah. Very happy for the Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni.
02:30You know, yeah, maybe Deepak Chahar may have got four good wickets.
02:34But it all started after Ravindra Jadeja got that extraordinary run-out on KL Rahul.
02:39And taking a sharp catch on Chris Gayle from there.
02:41They were just looking unstoppable.
02:43But also that ball which was the wicket of Mayank Agarwal.
02:47Unplayable ball.
02:48So credit to both Chahar and Jadeja.
02:50They led it from the front to make their team win today.
02:54Okay. And Gautam, hi to you over in India.
02:57Obviously, you were there first-hand as you were doing the live updates.
03:04How do you see that?
03:06And what's the impact on two teams that have had a very contrasting match to the last one?
03:13Yes, I think Chennai needed to put up their first points on the board.
03:18And Chahar is a bowler.
03:20You know, he still has the best figures in international cricket in a T20 game.
03:26It came against Bangladesh.
03:28He's a guy who can work up a lively pace.
03:31And if he gets that little movement, he can move the ball both ways.
03:35As Anish was saying, that delivery which took Mayank was possibly the delivery of the tournament so far.
03:42So that was a blow from where Punjab never quite recovered.
03:47And the writing was on the wall.
03:49When Chennai came into bat, the two senior pros, Moin and Faf, they went about the job without any fuss.
03:58Then, I don't know whether they wanted the match to go into the 15th over or something.
04:03But it was always on the cards.
04:08Make it to the next ad break, guys.
04:12Anish, the one thing you've got to imagine is, had Khan not come in with his 47,
04:19that could have been one of the low scores of IPL history.
04:24One man is the guy that got them into triple figures.
04:28Oh yes, he played well.
04:32He was touted well to be doing well in the domestic cricket also.
04:35That's why he was picked by Punjab, Shah Rukh Khan.
04:38And his innings actually was a saving grace for Punjab.
04:40Otherwise, they wouldn't have even made 100.
04:42But I want to say on one fact, which Gautam also mentioned.
04:46When you know that the wicket is doing good,
04:49and when you've lost Mayank early through a pitch of a delivery,
04:52the other batsmen should have probably seen that new ball of Chahar.
04:55Because Dhoni uses him up really early.
04:57Makes his four overs right at the front.
04:59And it's easy to say now, but T20 is not all about slam bank cricket.
05:04Sometimes you have to respect the condition.
05:07You have to respect the bowlers.
05:08And a score of 140, we saw yesterday, almost Rajasthan struggled.
05:12You never know what would have happened if they would have put 140+.
05:15Because they had a good pace attack, Punjab too.
05:18Yeah. And Sahil, obviously, there's one guy that you'd want to talk about.
05:22Faf doing his thing, and as you say, keeping a cool head in the chase.
05:28I mean, yeah, he's a veteran of the game.
05:30And he took it easy.
05:31Because after the opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring fire runs of 16 balls,
05:36he was really making a mess.
05:37So after him getting out Faf and Moeen really took the game away from Punjab.
05:41Both using their experience to lead the chase.
05:44And as you said, they wanted to get another ad break, it felt like.
05:50And then, yeah, just, I mean, obviously, they clearly took the foot off the gas.
05:53They knew the game was won.
05:56Gautam and Anis, I mean, you must have seen this before
05:59in the many years that you've been watching the tournament.
06:03What's the thinking behind that?
06:04Do you want to try and, you know, just see through it quite easily?
06:11Or, you know, why did they not get this game done 20 minutes earlier?
06:17Gautam, I'll go to you.
06:19I think one, which Anis gave a hint to in the previous question,
06:24that, you know, conditions were not particularly easy to bat on.
06:27Which had Gaikwad, you know, doing a wet and watch in the initial stages.
06:33But after that, there were no need for any heroics.
06:37Like if you want to do heroics and make a fool of yourself,
06:40because finally quite a few things come into play.
06:43The net run rate comes into play.
06:45For which, you've got a point.
06:47They ought to have finished it earlier.
06:49But, you know, the guys who are out in the middle, they know better.
06:52Maybe when Shami came on and when Meredith came on,
06:55he worked up a lively pace.
06:58So as long as they got their two points, it was fine.
07:01It's still early days.
07:02Yeah. Oh, yeah.
07:03No, I mean, obviously, there's no criticism of the China show today.
07:05It was just that, where did they go to finish?
07:10It was just that little bit at the end.
07:11Exactly.
07:13Yeah, I mean, Anas, if you've got nothing else either to say about that one,
07:19or if Sahil wants to gloat a little bit more,
07:22we can look ahead to another interesting match tomorrow,
07:25where a certain defending champion, Mumbai, are up against the Sunrisers.
07:31It's an interesting one.
07:35I think we'll all agree that there's one favorite, but maybe not.
07:38Anas, what's your take on tomorrow without being slightly biased?
07:43Yeah, first of all, I want to say congratulations, Sahil.
07:46Finally, your team is off the mark.
07:47You seem to be blushing.
07:49Don't want to show it, but it's a clinical win.
07:52Coming to tomorrow's game, obviously, Mumbai goes in as favorites
07:55because of that comeback victory against KKR.
07:58And Hyderabad has yet to get off the mark,
08:00but we are playing on that slow wicket.
08:02You have to always remember, in Hyderabad,
08:05they have one trump card, which is Rashid Khan.
08:07Rashid Khan, you can never underestimate him.
08:10He's one bowler who can win the match single-handedly.
08:13And if he has a great day, he can probably run through Mumbai,
08:16but definitely Mumbai going to the match is favorites.
08:19Cool. Sahil?
08:22I don't want to say Mumbai, but it's clear that they are most probably
08:29the favorites to win the game.
08:31And Sunrisers are coming with no confidence,
08:34but obviously, they'll be rooting for a victory.
08:36So I guess we'll have to just go for Mumbai, though.
08:41Okay. And Gautam?
08:43Yeah, I think, yes.
08:45I mean, it's difficult to look beyond Mumbai.
08:48One thing, if David Warner wins the toss,
08:51I think after two games, he must have learned the hard way
08:55that he should, you know, putting up a brisk start.
08:59That's their forte, with him coming out to open.
09:02That's what they should try and do.
09:05Runs on the board, runs on the board,
09:07and then you're looking at around 150-160 total kind of a match.
09:15Yeah, and those scores have been fairly defendable so far this season.
09:19Especially, as you say, on these tracks,
09:20it may be different once you move around
09:22and this strange setup we've got this year
09:25with nobody playing at home and things.
09:28But yeah, we shall see tomorrow.
09:30Well, thank you very much, guys, again, as usual,
09:32for your dedicated post-match analysis.
09:36And we'll see everybody again tomorrow for the match.
09:40We're always here every match.
09:42And like I said, don't forget to log on to our Facebook page at Golf News
09:47and you can get a chance to pick up one of these nice tracksuits
09:51and also a three-month subscription to Golf News.
09:56And yeah, all you've got to do is pick who you think is going to win each match
10:01and then if you're out the hat, then you get a chance to win.
10:06Thanks very much, everybody, for listening.
10:07And we'll see you all tomorrow.
10:10Thank you. Thank you so much.
10:11Thank you, Gautam. Thank you, Sahil.
10:12We'll catch you tomorrow for the Mumbai game.
10:15Good night.
10:16Good night. Bye-bye.
