00:00Hi guys. Welcome to The Straight Bad with Gulf News and Mr Cricket UAE. That is Anish Sajan.
00:13Tonight we will discuss Mumbai Indians' runaway win against Rajasthan Red Royals which promised much but delivered little. It turned out to be completely one-sided.
00:22So over to Anish Sajan to take us through the match.
00:26Thank you, Satish. Thank you, Shyam. Hello, Satish bhai. Hello, Romit. Hello, Sai. I can see a lot of big broad smile on Sai's face.
00:35But a comprehensive win. As we saw, it was a one-sided affair. I don't know what happens in Sharjah. There are hardly any scores coming when teams are batting first.
00:45And 94 is not a score which you expect when a team is put into bat. And then Mumbai actually wanted this and they scored the runs in 8.2 overs and have given them a chance.
00:56And if KKR go on to lose the last match, they just have to win the match against Sunrisers who are bottom place to make it to the last four.
01:04And as Shyam always says, if Mumbai enters the last four, watch out for them.
01:09Not just that. I say if Mumbai enters the last four, they will win the title. That's what I say. Do you agree with that, Sai?
01:18100 percent. As I have always been telling, it's always a chance for Mumbai. And first of all, it was very good. The changes that Rohit got was fantastic.
01:28I mean, he got Ishan Krishnan and Nisham and both performed well under pressure. And it was a do-or-die match for them. So they needed to perform and they performed well.
01:38Rohit, tell us what's happening to Rajasthan Royals. They just packed off somebody like Chennai Super Kings which easily have been chasing 190.
01:49And today, they can't even put together a 100. What happened there?
01:52I am like absolutely mum on this. What happened is, I can't conclude actually. But it is a disaster for sure.
02:01What was really helpful is that once Sanju went off and the catch that Sanju got out was a really good catch, of course.
02:09But after he went off, no one was there to take the responsibility. No one. I mean, we don't see a team perform this way. Absolutely not this way.
02:20And I like the fact that when we were going through the toss and there was a question asked to Rohit Sharma,
02:26So, what do you feel today? What's your plan today? He said, we did everything we wanted to. So, this time, we are just doing what we feel like.
02:32I mean, we are going unplanned. So, let's see what happens. So, we will come and chase.
02:36And the moment when he said chase, I was pretty much sure that the game is going to go to Mumbai Indians.
02:41Looking at the pitch, the way Sunil Gavaskar was describing it. A disastrous performance.
02:46Absolutely not a captain's approach towards a game. And there was no planning. They didn't even try to take any risk.
02:53I don't know why they were protecting their wickets when they know that we are falling anyways apart.
02:57But then there is something good. We are on the top of the table. And now the question would come from you. Which table?
03:02So, I would say fair play. Somewhere down the line.
03:07No, I wouldn't be so disappointed. But they are still within with a chance. Although, it's still a mathematical chance.
03:15Shyam, that mathematical test is a Herculean test. Even Einstein can't do it. He won't be able to do it.
03:24But it's 20-20 cricket. He can even befriend somebody like Einstein.
03:28Mumbai played smart. If you have seen one of my tweets, I mentioned they can go for anything.
03:33Every ball they should go for, so that they can come up with a good run rate. And that's what they did.
03:38Ramit, let me just stop you there and get back to Sadiq to give us the more technical aspects of it.
03:45One of the things which Sanjay Samson said was that the wicket was slow compared to Abu Dhabi, which was a belter of a pitch to bat on.
03:53This was bad. Do you think that was the reason which undermined Rajasthan's innings?
03:58No, Shyam. I don't think so. Because obviously, the wicket is the same for everybody.
04:03And as a captain, you are expected to read the wicket better. And of course, the first two or
04:08three balls or even the first over will give you how the wicket is going to be. So it's an excuse
04:13which I don't want to buy. In fact, if you look at yesterday also, I said Mumbai would win because
04:18the big teams come out all guns blazing on a crucial game or the do-or-die game. Because
04:25the captain, if you look at CSK, they come out of these kinds of situations, a tough situation
04:31where they need to win five out of five games, they come out and enter the play-off. Mumbai would
04:36do that. Royal Challengers will do that. That's all because of the captain. There are young
04:41Turks like Yashwesh Sree and Dubey. They did well. But in a crunch match like this, they should be
04:50given the confidence that nothing is different. You got to go and play. So the captain has to
04:56give them the confidence. And it has to come from, of course, the entire team management. I'm not just
05:01blaming Sanjay Sanchal. I'm just saying captain because that's the way it is.
05:04But the entire management should say, guys, go and play your natural game.
05:10Just enjoy the game. In a do-or-die game, that's where the difference lies.
05:17Okay. Anil, you earlier said that the Shahjah wickets has not been producing as many
05:23runs. If you remember the IPL of last year, we had plenty of sixes and huge totals where it
05:28chased down. But this time, we have hardly seen anything like that. So do you think
05:34wickets are… Because it's a freshly laid wicket. Is that an issue?
05:45I can't hear you.
05:50Can you hear me now?
05:52Yeah. Yeah, we're good. Yeah, we're fine.
05:53You can hear me now?
05:55Yes.
05:56Okay. So what I'm just trying to say is that the wickets have been quite slow and low.
06:02And today, the bounce also was low. So the sad part is that Shahjah, which is known for
06:08sixes and boundaries, this year, the average score is 130 or 135. Only team which scored
06:13runs was RCB, which scored around 145. So it's bad. And I don't know how the World Cup is going
06:22to pan out. But this is not good for a team right now.
06:27It is just definitely not a T20 wicket at the moment, anyway.
06:32Kouramit, I'm not going to leave you because Rajasthan lost. But still, where do we,
06:37Rajasthan, go from here? Because except for the first season, where they won, the Rajasthan
06:44story has been pretty much the same. It's been pretty disappointing every single time. So where
06:50do Rajasthan go from here?
06:52I think so they can appoint somebody like me.
06:57The way I ask is, you splash out an enormous amount of money on somebody like Chris Morris,
07:04and he's not played all the games.
07:06And the funny thing is, I don't like a captain when he comes and blames the pitch after a game.
07:11This is my philosophy. My coach used to tell me that when you go and you have n number and
07:16x number of experts in your team whom you pay such amount of money, who can give you all the
07:20expert opinion, and still you cannot be standing on a pitch, decide what the pitch is doing,
07:25and can't change a game, then you're not fit to be a captain or a batsman.
07:30So, if Mumbai Indians could change it in less than 10 overs, okay. So why couldn't Rajasthan
07:36Royals do the same thing and put at least 120 on the board, at least 100. At least give the
07:42fans some breathing. So I don't accept his excuse. It's his mistake. And he has been practicing
07:47there before the match and all. You know about the pitch. Then what the heck were you doing there?
07:52I mean, you can't blame the pitch. You lost a game. You lost a game handsomely. And Mumbai
07:56Indians changed it handsomely.
07:57Okay, coming to Sai. Sai, I think you are still grinning. But let me say that still,
08:04Mumbai can lose out on the spot. They are still not assured everything.
08:08Yeah, they are hopeful that KKR will lose.
08:11Yes. Because they are still on 12 with KKR. And if the results pan out in a particular
08:16fashion, they could still lose out.
08:19I mean, we may have the last laugh. Because we have the last match that we are playing
08:22with SRH, Sunrise of Hyderabad. So that's our last match. And so, we will know… I mean,
08:28the Mumbai Indians will know what total they need to reach. So they have the net run rate.
08:33Still, it's a few herculean tasks. But possibly, if KKR loses, it's just a win as well,
08:39what all Mumbai Indians need.
08:41It will be pride versus pride.
08:43You are the mathematical man here. And still, if you do the maths here, all four teams still
08:52have a chance of making it. But finally, it comes down to Mumbai and KKR. Any cricket
09:00wingman would tell you that. So, whom do you think will make it? KKR or Mumbai Indians?
09:05And why?
09:06I personally feel KKR would make it. Because again, we might say that Mumbai is playing
09:12Sunrise of Hyderabad. Now, today's game, if you look at, Rajasthan is almost on par with
09:17Sunrise of Hyderabad. So, there is not much of a difference in standards between these two teams.
09:23So, I would still back Kolkata Knight Riders to go through. Because they are still in the
09:28plus net run rate. So, to overcome that, in case if they win, which I am sure they will.
09:33So, to overcome the net run rate and win handsomely, that's a huge task. But yeah,
09:40I would say Kolkata have a slight edge over Mumbai. I would say Kolkata will make it to the
09:49playoffs.
09:51Before we wind up, Anish, what's your final word for today?
09:58Disappointing game. Can you hear me, guys?
10:01Yes, very much.
10:03Disappointing game for RR. A lifeline for Mumbai, which they have grabbed it with both hands.
10:08Now, like Satish mentioned, KKR has the best chance. Their fate is in their own hands. If
10:13they go on to win, it's going to be a herculean task for Mumbai to make it. Because I am not sure
10:19next time around, Sunrisers will also get bowled out for 90 or 80 and they will chase it out.
10:24Correct.
10:25What is very clear is, there is still so much to play for in this tournament.
10:31One more match each for four teams. Thank you very much for tuning in and please log on to

10:44much. Good night.
