00:00I'm not surprised for a reason because there have been games after games where Virat Kohli has lost narrow games.
00:14Hi guys and welcome once again to Straight Back with Mr Cricket, UAE and Golf News.
00:18We've had an absolute cracker tonight with RCB and DC.
00:22But first of all, as always, we'll go over to say hi to Anis Sajan.
00:27Hi Matt. Hi beautiful people of the Golf News community.
00:31What a cracker of a game. But before I talk about the game, as every day we speak about,
00:35you need to predict the winner of every match and you walk away with this beautiful jacket and three months of subscription of Golf News.
00:44Now, we'll just get right in there.
00:47We had Virat Kohli partying like he just won the trophy at the end there with a one-run win over Delhi Capitals for RCB.
00:57He really knew how much this one meant after they lost their last match.
01:01I'm not surprised for a reason because there have been games after games where Virat Kohli has lost narrow games,
01:08where his bowlers in the end, rather in the death overs, have leaked in 4 overs 50, 4 overs 60.
01:14And he's always been on the losing side.
01:16So in this tournament, he has got a big smile where he's pulled up two matches defending,
01:21where the margins would have gone either this way or that way.
01:26So definitely a relieved man. And unfortunate for Delhi, it's a game of small margins.
01:32And today, probably RCB was on the right side.
01:36Okay. And again, I would say, as you said, there was that second last ball that could have gone either way,
01:43as you mentioned just before we came on air, that it could be an umpire's call,
01:47that could have been a no ball and it would have changed the result.
01:49That's the finest of margins, isn't it?
01:52I bet, for example, had it been given a no ball, you would have seen Virat Kohli fuming.
01:57And I wouldn't blame, that's the emotions which come out.
02:00To be very honest, Pankaj held his emotions.
02:03But Hetmayar was very clear that it was a no ball.
02:06But that's the way the game goes. Sometimes the umpire's call goes in your favour.
02:10Sometimes it goes in the other's favour.
02:12And today, it was RCB's turn.
02:14Otherwise, that two balls, you would have got an extra ball.
02:17And you never know what would have happened.
02:18But credit to Siraj, he bowled three good balls in the last over.
02:22And that probably made the difference.
02:24And of course, small mistakes here and there proved costly for Delhi.
02:30Of course, you could talk about the whole two innings,
02:33about one error that cost one run.
02:35But it all comes down to those fine margins right at the end of the game.
02:41Sahil, looking back, RCB really needed to win this one.
02:47And they did, just about.
02:49But I don't think either side will come away with this with too much damage.
02:55Absolutely not. It was an equal contest.
02:59I mean, yes, Shimron Hetmeyer saved them to come at least in there.
03:03But it was still even.
03:05Delhi bowled well.
03:06But it was again, AB de Villiers.
03:08You know how crazy that guy is.
03:10He scored a crazy 75 runs.
03:13And AB de Villiers saved them to get to 117.
03:16It was like Shimron Hetmeyer played a quick innings.
03:18Otherwise, if he had not played, I don't think Delhi would have been in contention.
03:22But he did.
03:23Rishabh Pant, had a tough day with the bat.
03:25He went very slow.
03:28Credit to RCB for holding their nerve.
03:30After Jameson going for 21 runs, after three overs, he was 11 runs.
03:33He went 21 runs.
03:34No one expects that, you know.
03:35This is the beauty of T20 cricket.
03:39And obviously, Rajwel and Maxwell also, after a slight wobble between Coley and Badegal at the start.
03:46Maxwell, they set a little bit of a base as well.
03:50So that AB could then go on and, you know, cut this.
03:54And get them to that total that was then just one run out of touch.
04:01Is that the confidence that is now there in the RCB team that maybe,
04:06that they are now instilling that wasn't there before?
04:10It's true.
04:11You know what?
04:12Till last year, they had only AB and...
04:14Yeah, hi Shyam.
04:15Till last year, they had only AB and Virat running the show.
04:21They had this time Glenn Maxwell.
04:23So what is happening is, after Virat and Glenn Maxwell give the platform with the help of Badegal,
04:28there is the fireworks from AB De Villiers.
04:30So that is giving them that extra cushion.
04:32But mind you, one fact I want to share before, since we are talking about this game.
04:36This is the first time two players have been unbitten on a half-century and they have been on the losing side.
04:44And secondly, Rishabh Pant's two half-centuries have not had a six.
04:48So there is that margin of pin.
04:51It could have gone either way.
04:52Rishabh Pant generally is a clean striker of the ball.
04:55But today I felt he was slogging the ball more than time.
04:58And there is where it was a difference.
05:00Whereas Hetman was hitting it clean.
05:03Okay.
05:04So like I say, even though Pant still hit a 58, two half-centuries there, Shyam.
05:09But obviously, thanks for joining us, sir.
05:11But obviously, we'd covered the Kohli celebrations and the fine margins.
05:17Pant and Hetman, as I said, generally will come away with this, like I say, without too many problems, I don't think.
05:26I think they know how to pick themselves up from here, Shyam.
05:36Sorry.
05:37I'm just saying that I think that maybe DC won't come away with too many problems from this game.
05:41They know it was a one-run defeat and they know how to pick themselves up.
05:45It's not going to dent their confidence too much.
05:49It may be a one-run defeat.
05:51But you see some problems there.
05:55Simply, I don't know whether you guys have covered this already.
05:58Because the last over from Delhi, that is the small ball by Stein, perhaps cost this match.
06:06If you look at that, he gave it 23 runs in that over.
06:10Whereas the margin of defeat is just one run.
06:13So the match would have been won and lost right there.
06:18We did talk earlier about how we could analyse here, there and everywhere.
06:22We talked about was the second last ball a no ball?
06:27But you could look at a missed run here and there.
06:29But yes, you're bang on.
06:30That was a very expensive over.
06:34I mean, all the commentators were saying, because they were quite surprised.
06:39Because up till this point, Stein had bowled a single over.
06:42And you had other bowlers who had their quotas left.
06:46And why would you bring a bowler, even if he's the best bowler.
06:51If he's coming in to bowl, I mean, you can't be expected to take on the final over when all the pressure is on you.
07:00So you could have brought in Rabada, who had his lowest left.
07:03He is a very good left bowler.
07:05And he's a proven one too.
07:07So it's a steep learning curve for somebody like Rishabh Pant.
07:12Probably he didn't calculate it that well.
07:14Or maybe he placed too much confidence on Stoinis.
07:21Because Stoinis has done this kind of situation in the past.
07:24He's bowled exceptionally well at the death.
07:26But today to come and bowl just one over the entire match to the final over.
07:31I think that was too much of an ask.
07:34So just explain to me one thing as an innocent Scotsman in the world of cricket.
07:40Is that an on-field decision by the captain then who takes the final over?
07:44It doesn't come from upstairs?
07:46No, on the field, all the on-field decisions are the captain.
07:51Because they might discuss a broad strategy.
07:53But the final point, the execution of the field is entirely left to the captain.
07:59You can have all your strategies in your place.
08:01You can plan everything.
08:02But the by-the-minute planning is entirely up to the captain.
08:05Which is why cricket captaincy is so different from any other game.
08:10Because the captain has to be thinking on the field all the time.
08:14Okay.
08:15As you mean, like in football, you've got a manager on the touchline
08:18that will make all the key decisions for you?
08:21No, not at all. This is his own decision.
08:24Because the whole scenario changes by the minute.
08:28So he has to be making changes by the minute.
08:32So you're changing on the field all the time.
08:34That's interesting.
08:35Absolutely.
08:37Occasionally, you might see some managers send messages across.
08:43Because one of the matches when Punjab Kings played,
08:47I saw Kumble sending some messages through the field.
08:52I was standing on the line.
08:54So those kind of things happen.
08:56But by and large, it is entirely up to the captain.
09:00Okay.
09:01And Anas, just touching on that same sort of thing,
09:05if you look at the captaincy and the trust that teams obviously
09:10with experience comes to success.
09:13But guys like MS Dhoni, they know how to manage these critical decisions.
09:18We saw Virat do that today.
09:21Does it look like RCB now have that confidence back again
09:25and they're going to, shall we dare say it,
09:29really threaten for the title this time?
09:32Well, as much as I'd love to say that they're there for the title,
09:35but with RCB and Virat Kohli, you cannot be sure of anything.
09:40This is a tournament which has eluded RCB and Virat Kohli
09:44for 13 long years.
09:46We hope he breaks his jinx, not only for RCB,
09:48but for the sake of India.
09:50Because mind you, the T20 World Cup is following
09:52and it will give him a lot of confidence.
09:55Okay.
09:56And Sahil, again, looking at that innings, that chase,
10:01obviously they came up one short.
10:04We talked about everything there,
10:06but we'd not really talked about Steve Smith.
10:09Again, only four runs on the board.
10:12Is he out of place at number three there?
10:15I mean, to be honest,
10:17if this was a chase made for Steve Smith to anchor,
10:20yeah, he did get out early.
10:21But yes, for your question, he has to be there.
10:25He's a fantastic batsman.
10:27You know how we say, we see Kane Williamson
10:29play for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
10:31You remember the last game,
10:32the man took it till the end against Delhi Capitals.
10:35So that's how Steve Smith is to them.
10:37And he has to play.
10:39They need a guy who anchors.
10:41Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shah, yes, they're openers,
10:44but they can get out sometimes.
10:46And I can agree that Steve Smith did not work out today,
10:48but I think he's got to play.
10:50He's got to start the other games for sure.
10:53Okay, yeah, no, I'm not asking that.
10:55I'm just talking about,
10:56as we talked about shuffling the order,
10:57he stays where he is.
10:59Yeah, he's got to come at number three.
11:01It's the right call to bring him at number three.
11:03Absolutely.
11:05Cool.
11:06There's no debate there then.
11:08Okay.
11:09And you mentioned about Sunrisers there
11:11and Sham and also Anas there.
11:13We've got an interesting one.
11:15Sunrisers find themselves at the bottom of the table right now
11:18and they're up against a Chennai team.
11:21They've had a little bit of a rollercoaster,
11:23but it seemed to have their tails up.
11:25How do we see this going tomorrow?
11:29Either or.
11:31Okay, I'll go first.
11:34Hyderabad doesn't look the team they were last year in the sense
11:38that they had a second win when they came back into the reckoning
11:42and into the knockout stages last year.
11:45But this year they somehow don't seem to get things right,
11:50even with Williamson back.
11:54Okay, they took Delhi to the Super Over.
11:58But that's about it.
12:00If you look at their other losses, they've been pretty bad.
12:03They lost very, very badly.
12:06So I don't have much hopes on them unless they really turn around big time.
12:11Because you take away the top three players,
12:14let's say Bairstow, Warner, and Williamson,
12:17there's little left in the batting line-up there.
12:20It is almost like a sinkhole really,
12:23which is why it doesn't give me much confidence to pick Hyderabad
12:28for any of the games.
12:31For tomorrow, I would say CSK are overwhelming favorites.
12:37And Anas, do you concur with that?
12:40Oh, yes.
12:41I feel it right that CSK definitely go as favorites,
12:44and Hyderabad unfortunately seems to be not playing the way they played last year.
12:50But we never know if strange things happen.
12:52We need to see if Hyderabad openers can finish the games.
12:55It's the middle order which is letting them down.
12:58Cool.
13:00No, I think we've covered all the things there.
13:03I mean, other than, you know, like we mentioned Smith.
13:07Good enough, Matt.
13:09Dhawan was the only other one with his six today,
13:12but I think as Sahil said that he thinks he's going to come good,
13:15so that's okay.
13:17Well, good luck to Kohli and Koh.
13:19I hope they can have a little bit of relief tonight
13:23and they can celebrate that thrashing of one run.
13:27And we'll see you all tomorrow for Sunrisers against Chennai.
13:31Thanks very much for watching, guys.
13:32And thank you to Anas, Sahil, and Sham.
13:36Thank you. Good night.
13:37Also, guys, don't forget to log on to Facebook
13:40and choose your man of the match
13:42so that you can get a chance to win one of these tops

13:48Thanks, man. Good night.
