00:00Welcome to Straight Back with Gulf News and Mr Cricket, Anish Sajjan. After a stunning
00:17and comfortable clinical win by the Chennai Super Kings against RCB, I will put you on
00:24to Mr Anish Sajjan. What are your thoughts of today's match, Anish?
00:30Thank you, Satish. Thank you to all the beautiful people of Gulf News. Welcome to Arjan. Smiling
00:35Arjan after winning for CSK. Hussain must be a bit disappointed. But nonetheless, I
00:42would say that RCB lost a golden opportunity. I repeat, a golden opportunity to put this
00:49across CSK. They were 111-4. No loss after 13 overs. They could have easily posted 180
00:55or 190 on this wicket. Even though this wicket slowed down a little bit, I am afraid they
01:00lost their pace and their innings were shattered. They ended up scoring less than 50 in the
01:05last 7 overs. And that is where they lost the match.
01:08True. True. True. Yeah. In fact, they lost 5 wickets for the addition of 14 runs, if
01:16I remember right, from 140 for 1. They were 156 in 20 overs. I think, as Kohli would have
01:24rightly said, they were about 20 runs or 24 runs short. I will take it on to Arjan. He
01:32must be smiling there. Arjan, what are your thoughts about the match? Did you expect such
01:38an easy win?
01:40So, when I was watching it, and I saw 100 for no loss, and in the end, when it was,
01:49I think it was 156, I was very surprised. Because RCB were getting that momentum. And
01:57when they suddenly just collapsed, it was a shining time for CSK. And in the second
02:05two, CSK played really well. The batsmen were hitting very good shots. And it was
02:15quite spread out, the runs that were made from the batsmen. So, all in all, a team effort
02:21from CSK.
02:22Very good. And Hussain, you must be gutted after such a performance, where after 92
02:29all out in the previous game, and 110 or 111, no loss. What are your thoughts about it?
02:36Oh, absolutely. The start from RCB was totally bang-on. Going around 140 for 1, surely 190
02:45was on the cards. But again, blame is on RCB. And kudos to CSK. They got that boundary
02:54and knocked every other ball off. Good chase by RCB, by CSK.
02:59Anish Bhai, I would like to ask you this question. Batting was a problem in the previous game.
03:07But do you think the bowlers did not capitalise on the wicket for RCB? Because the ball was
03:13stopping, it was not a good conducive wicket for stroke play. So, maybe if they had bowled
03:18on the right areas, could they have restricted the run-flow and then pulled Chennai back?
03:23You can say that, Satish. But let me be very honest, you have to give credit to CSK openers,
03:29both Paap and Ritu Raj Baikwad. They knew that after few overs, the wicket slowed down
03:34like how it had happened in the RCB innings. They capitalised on the power play. And at
03:386 overs, they were at 60. And probably that is where they lost their first wicket when
03:42Paap got out. But nonetheless, like you mentioned about the bowling of RCB, yes, the pace
03:47bowlers did not come to the party. And I am afraid Asaranga did not have a good game.
03:53But knowing him, I am sure he will bounce back. He is the number two bowler in the world.
03:56He is known for his guile. Sometimes you have bad days. And one of those days, Asaranga,
04:01if he had supported Chahal, probably RCB would have been in the reckoning. But credit to
04:06CSK batsmen. As Hussain mentioned, they were hitting the boundary and taking the singles
04:11every over.
04:13Hassan, to you. Do you think maybe Washington Sundar or some other bowler would have helped
04:22RCB? Or what are your thoughts on that?
04:26I feel Mr Cricket rightly mentioned Asaranga should have supported Chahal. And I also feel
04:34Asaranga is a very good bowler. Maybe not his day. And I think Sundar is also injured.
04:40And he would have played in place of Asaranga. But nonetheless, let's see. Let's bounce
04:45back. RCB still has a chance to qualify in the top four. We still have four to five games
04:51left.
04:52Five games.
04:53Yeah, five games. Let's see how it pans out. We still have a very good chance.
04:58Arjan, what do you think that CSK need to do? Should Rayana go back to number three
05:05or should they continue with left-hander, other left-hander?
05:12I think Raidu should be there. But Rayana, sure, he is a great batsman. I think he is
05:23the number second scorer in the IPL.
05:26Number three.
05:27Number three. And he should be moved up the order. But I think my ideal lineup would be
05:40Gaikwad, Favre, Raidu, then Rayana. Because then you get all of those batsmen at the same
05:46area. And it eventually becomes the key to success.
05:50So, when does your captain come?
05:53The captain should be a little bit lower down the order.
05:58To finish the game.
06:00You want more runs at the beginning of the game. So that you can win the game faster.
06:06Only if the game is going on for long, then Dhoni should be there. But otherwise, if
06:14it's like a short, quick game, I think batsmen like Moeen Ali should pick it up.
06:21Okay. Anis, I am coming back to you. Probably the last question. Do you think Kohli coming
06:28back into the form will augur well for Rassi? What are your thoughts on that?
06:33Yes, you have to say that. He played a very good innings. In fact, both he and Dev Dutt
06:38looked in prime form. And Virat Kohli was bang-on from ball one. And he was always in
06:44form. The problem is, white-ball cricket was never a problem. It's red-ball cricket
06:48was a problem. So he was always scoring runs. It's just about, I am somehow not comfortable
06:53Virat Kohli opening the innings. But when he scores runs, you can't complain. My only
06:57problem is, suppose if he gets out early, there is panic in the dugout. Because when
07:01Virat Kohli is at the crease, the opposition also feels scared that this man is at the
07:06crease, he can finish the game off. And Virat Kohli is no need. I mean, who will be able
07:11to reach 10,000 runs? He is just 10 runs short of reaching 10,000 runs.
07:15And of course, I think the lack of form of AB and Maxwell is not helping the team's
07:22cause as well, isn't it?
07:23To some extent. You know, what I felt today, probably, RCB missed a trick, was to send
07:30Maxwell one down, rather than sending AB De Villiers. Okay, AB De Villiers is a much
07:34bigger player than Maxwell. But the platform was set. Because Ravindra Jadeja, I am afraid,
07:38went for just 31 runs in four overs, were not acceptable. Maxwell would have gone after
07:43him on the slopes, on the ground. But all in all, that...
07:52I would like to comment on Kohli's captaincy. I know a lot of people were saying about,
07:58a lot of people were criticising about Dhoni being mentor. Because he may take Kohli's
08:03role. But I think it's a good thing. Because Kohli cannot do it by himself. He needs a
08:10little bit of guidance from Dhoni. I mean, he would have added a little bit of spice
08:15to the match. If in the CX strategic time-out, Dhoni would have given a few tips to Virat
08:21Kohli about how to captain.
08:26That's a good dig, Hussain. Hussain, you got to respond to that. You can go ahead.
08:32No, no, no. Let Hussain finish and then we want a balle-balle from Arjun. Of his team
08:38winning.
08:41Come on, Hussain.
08:42I feel RCB's T20 record is not so bad. As in, compared to matches played. He has won
08:48a good percentage of the matches. And I feel he will do a very good job in the T20 World
08:52Cup. Maybe his IPL record is not so good. But T20 World Cup record, he will do a good
08:58job.
09:01Anil Bhai, your concluding thoughts.
09:03Alright. So, now, the issue for RCB, before we go to Arjun for his last balle-balle, is
09:09that they are stuck at 10 points. They still, obviously, have 5 matches to go. So, even
09:14if they win 3 matches, they will reach 16. So, they should be able to find a place. The
09:19problem is their run rate. And the second thing, what must be bothering RCB, tomorrow
09:23if Rajasthan Royals go on to beat Delhi, they will go ahead of RCB. And then if KKR goes
09:31on to win their next match, they also go ahead. So, then RCB drops back further. So, that
09:36must be worrying Virat Kohli. Because the other two teams are catching up. But nonetheless,
09:41we cannot be doing ifs and buts. They have their own destiny in their hand. If they go
09:46on to win 3 matches out of 5, they should be going through.
09:52I would like to add on what Mr. Sarjan said. And RCB have actually messed up the table.
09:58They have just climbed the ranks way too high. They have also defeated a couple of teams
10:05that actually were supposed to be on top of the table. They have kind of just made a mess.
10:12It's just going to be a huge fight in the end. Nobody knows who is going to qualify.
10:16CSK are obviously going to qualify. But nobody knows who else can qualify. Because all of
10:22the points are so close.
10:24Alright. We need a Balle Balle from you before we sign off. Come on. Come on, Arjan.
10:32Very good.
10:35Come on. Make some noise for CSK, Arjan.
10:38CSK. CSK. Chennai. Chennai. Super Kings. Chennai. Chennai. Super Kings. CSK. Go CSK.
10:50Well done. Well done.
10:53On that happy note, let's see for the CSK fans. Hopefully, RCB will be doing well in
11:00the next few games. And more to come in the next few matches where the tables could be
11:05changing every second game, every game. So, we will keep a watch on the IPL what's unfolding
11:11over the next week, which will give us a clearer picture, hopefully. And thanks for joining
11:16us. Thanks Anisbhai. Thanks Arjan. Thanks Uzain for your wonderful time. And do follow
