00:00This is the Zodiac speaking.
00:13I mean, there were so many misconceptions around the Torso Murders.
00:31I'm dead.
00:34Drop it.
00:53Herb used a saw?
01:00No.
01:31These levels are consistent with residue on a dismembered leg we found in Miami.
01:52We got a match.
02:00The community knew a serial killer had stalked the estuaries and villages many called home.
02:06The community knew a serial killer had stalked the estuaries and villages many called home.

02:37The last confirmed case occurred in 1988, in which a woman named Jane Borosky was repeatedly stabbed outside a store, but miraculously survived.
02:43The last confirmed case occurred in 1988, in which a woman named Jane Borosky was repeatedly stabbed outside a store, but miraculously survived.
02:49I'm trying not to get emotional right now about it, because, you know, there have been so many people, um, there's been so many persons of interest over the years.
03:19She had kidnapped her family, and had taken her own life the year before.
03:22She had kidnapped her family, and had taken her own life the year before.
03:23Later, she was portrayed as the murderer of the I-70.
03:26Later, she was portrayed as the murderer of the I-70.
03:29In the spring of 1992, six shop assistants were shot on the Interstate 70 highway in the Midwest.
03:36Victims of what police in four states are almost sure is a serial killer.
03:41Victims of what police in four states are almost sure is a serial killer.
03:46It is believed that the only atypical case, that of an employee, was confused with a woman for her long hair.
03:54In addition, all the victims were shot in the same way, with a .22 caliber firearm.
04:01I think this guy is out there. It's just a matter of getting the information we need, because we need something to work with.
04:09It is believed that the alleged culprit, nicknamed the I-70 killer, has claimed even more lives.
04:15Two workers in a store in Texas and another in Indiana between 1993 and 2001.
04:22Despite years of advertising and the dissemination of a detailed sketch of the author in crime programs, he remains unidentified.
04:30His quirk is that he got off on the fact that people were basically right there, and he was doing something that heinous and getting away with it.
04:39Honolulu Strangler
04:41Hawaii has rarely been plagued with serial killers.
04:45But in 1985, Honolulu Strangler sowed terror in the state.
04:52It is believed that he was the second serial killer in the history of Hawaii, and he claimed the lives of five women between 1985 and 1986.
05:10These young victims were sexually assaulted, strangled and abandoned with their hands tied behind their backs.
05:17After discovering the fifth, the police arrested a man named Howard Gay, whose ex-wife and girlfriend claimed they preferred to tie their hands during sexual intercourse.
05:28Howard Gay was originally from Buffalo, New York, a military serviceman.
05:33He had been stationed at George Air Force Base in California until 1965, when he was honorably discharged.
05:58In the 1970s, the gay community in San Francisco was terrorized by a serial killer known as the Doodler.
06:18This individual, who apparently was a cartoonist, attracted his victims from nightclubs and gay bars.
06:24And then he drew them a sketch before stabbing them to death.
06:28It is believed that he killed between 6 and 16 people.
06:32And that at least three more survived his attacks.
06:40These survivors helped the police make a portrait of the author.
06:45But when they finally arrested a suspect, they refused to testify, for fear of leaving the closet publicly.
06:52As a result, he was released.
06:54It is still an open case in the San Francisco Police Department.
06:58And they offer a reward of $250,000 for any clue.
07:04Stone Man
07:05The nickname of this famous Indian serial killer is disturbingly literal, for its method with a heavy stone.
07:12The boss, united to the fact that his victims had no home, led the police to suspect that they had a serial killer in their hands.
07:22Very little, only that it was assumed that the killer was well built.
07:42We are going back to the Stone Age, is what Rajpal Singh, the deputy commissioner of the Kolkata police, said at the time of the killings.
07:52If he was a person or if the person responsible for the killings in Kolkata was an imitator.
07:56Although numerous arrests have been made, no one has been accused and the case remains unsolved.
08:03The Killer of the New Orleans Axe
08:05Between May 1918 and October 1919, the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, suffered a terrifying scandal that left its residents plunged into perpetual fear.
08:23A serial killer who became known as the Axe Man or the Killer of the New Orleans Axe, broke into houses and used the victims' axes to murder them.
08:34Most were women and many of Italian descent, which aroused various theories about their motives.
08:42Some believed that the murders were a twisted way of promoting jazz music, since a letter supposedly sent by the killer claimed that he would forgive those who listened to the genre.
08:57The murders mysteriously ceased after the death of six people and the identity of the culprit was never discovered.
09:04The Alphabet Killer
09:06In Rochester, New York, between 1971 and 1973, three girls disappeared and were later found dead after being sexually assaulted and strangled.
09:18The similarities between the cases were already disturbing, but a detail made them even stranger.
09:24The names and surnames of each of the victims, Carmen Colon, Wanda Walkowicz and Michelle Maenza, began with the same letter.
09:33This led the police to think that it was a serial killer.
09:49After Maenza's murder, witnesses helped create a spoken portrait of the man with whom he was last seen, but the search did not lead anywhere.
10:04The police also interrogated other suspects, including one of the girls' uncles, but without solid evidence, they were all released.
10:14The Highway Ghost
10:16This serial killer was responsible for the death of five black girls and a young woman in the Washington DC area between 1971 and 1972.
10:33His method consisted of normally kidnapping his victims when they were alone, sexually assaulting them and strangling them, and then throwing their bodies to places where they were easy to find.
10:44The killer made fun of the authorities by leaving a note with one of the victims and forced another to call her family with misleading information before killing her.
10:55This was the first time we had ever had anything like this, so we were totally, totally unprepared.
11:01The case was widely investigated and there were countless clues from the public, but none significant.
11:08Robert Elwood Askins, a well-known sexual predator, was suspected of the crimes, but as there was no physical evidence, he was not charged.
11:18The case is still unresolved.
11:20The Skid Row Stabber
11:22This serial killer should not be confused with the Skid Row Stabber, a.k.a. Vaughn Greenwood.
11:27We are talking about the Skid Row Stabber, who apparently had 11 victims in his name at the end of the 1970s.
11:35All his crimes occurred in the Skid Row neighborhood, in downtown Los Angeles, or around him, and his goal was the numerous population of homeless people in the area.
11:46The corpses used to be thrown or eliminated in several alleys of Skid Row, and to this day no one knows the true identity of the criminal.
11:55Bobby Joe Maxwell was arrested, tried and convicted for the Skid Row Stabber crimes, but the investigation was swamped by corruption and circumstantial evidence, which led to the annulment of the sentence in 2010.
12:09The New Bedford Highway Killer
12:12New Bedford, Massachusetts, is known for its prosperous fishing industry and for being the setting of Herman Melville's classic work, Moby Dick.
12:21It is also sadly famous for being the home of the New Bedford Highway Killer at the end of the 1980s.
12:29All the targets were women with drug addiction problems or who worked in the sex industry, and their corpses were found on the main highways around New Bedford.
12:43During the years, several suspects have emerged as possible candidates, including the hypothesis that the Portuguese criminal known as the Lisbon Stripper could have fulfilled a double function after leaving the area.
13:04Today, the victims' families are still desperate to get answers.
13:12I made a promise I would never give up and I won't.
13:16The Biblical Belt Strangler
13:18This case remains unsolved. The author of these crimes received the nickname of the Biblical Belt Strangler because the crimes were committed in states such as Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi between 1978 and 1992.
13:35Jane Doe is bad, because that means you don't know who they are, which means you don't know who their family is, you don't know who their enemies were.
13:41The case is similar to the New Bedford Highway Killers, as the victims used to be sexual travelers or sex workers, and their bodies were thrown to the banks of the local highways.
13:53Pretty much he's a white truck driver. I would say he's around 5'11", 6'2", between the ages of his mid-20s to his 40s.
14:15Knowing that it's her is a major part, but I don't think that's going to be fully on my closure.
14:23The Rainbow Maniac
14:24The Brazilian police nicknamed this killer the Rainbow Maniac because his goal was exclusively gay men who visited the Paturis Park, in the Brazilian municipality of Carapicuíba.
14:36The authorities came to suspect that he could be a state police agent, since almost all the victims received several shots, possibly with the same weapon.
14:45A retired agent named Jairo Francisco Franco was tried for the crimes in 2011, but he was declared innocent despite the testimony of witnesses who frequented the area and was supposedly seen shooting a man 12 times.
14:59The Paraguayan Killer
15:01Paraguayan killers can be premeditated, opportunistic or completely random, but they are rarely so indirect.
15:10Paraguayan murders were not aimed at any specific person, but were a series of random poisoning that occurred in Japan in the mid-1980s.
15:21Paraguay is a type of herbicide that was used to commit crimes, and that the killer added to the drinks inside or on top of the vending machines in the Fukuyama-Hiroshima area.
15:31In total, 12 people died and more than 30 victims were poisoned by the mixture, but survived.
15:39The Japanese Association of Refreshment Bottlers ended up printing more than a million warning labels for vending machines.
15:47And what is more serious, this series of unsolved murders inspired several imitators.
15:53The Santa Rosa Highway Killer
15:55Asking for a ride is not common today, but it is important to remember that for many years people used this method to get where they wanted with little budget.
16:05Unfortunately, as the victims of the Santa Rosa murders tragically discovered, you never know who will pick you up.
16:20The case is unique for its list of official and potential victims, as well as the list of high-profile serial killers to whom these murders could be attributed.
16:31Ted Bundy, the Zodiac Killer and the Hillside Stranglers have been named as possible suspects, but to date no definitive name has been linked to the case.
16:53The butcher of Moss
16:54We do not know what is worse in the case of the butcher of Moss, the brutality of his crimes or the disturbing skill with which he surgically destroyed the corpses.
17:05The butcher ravaged the Belgian city of Moss in 1996 and 1997 and left plastic bags with parts of corpses on the sides of the local roads.
17:16The stories of the victims presented similarities, since they all used to congregate at the local train station and had problematic background.
17:25He packed his remains with shiny underwear and they seemed to be thrown strategically in places with names that translated into evocative phrases, such as the Way of Worry.
17:36Bible John
17:38If you dance with Bible John, you may be dancing with death.
17:42This murderer in Scottish series used to attack young girls with dark hair in a dance hall in the city of Glasgow.
17:49The sketches and drawings show a portrait of Bible John as a young man, while the official psychological profile refers to the apparent puritanic nature of the murderer.
18:00Apparently, he quoted the Bible and condemned married women who attended the dance hall, equating the act with adultery.
18:08Some believe that the infamous murderer in Scottish series Peter Tabin is Bible John, but to this day there is no connection or definitive answer in the case.
18:18The Monster of the Mangs
18:20The nickname of Monster is disgustingly appropriate in this case.
18:25It is believed that this Colombian serial killer was responsible for the murders of at least 30 children during the 1960s and 1970s.
18:35The reputation of the monster and its reign of terror were such that it became a terrifying local legend,
18:42partly due to the sadism of its methods, which included the use of syringes to extract blood.
18:48This led to the suspicion that the Monster of the Mangs was the closest thing to a vampire that the people of Colombia had been in their life.
18:56The Monster of Florence
18:58Italy has had a series of disturbing serial killer cases without solving.
19:02Among the most notable was the Monster of Udine, while another stalked in Tuscany, the Monster of Florence.
19:10The crimes were quite similar to those of the son of Sam in New York, since the culprit used to attack couples in parked cars.
19:18However, the Monster of Florence also extracted organs from some victims.
19:24The conviction of a suspect, Pietro Pacciani, became an absolution.
19:29However, after his death, two alleged accomplices were controversially tried and sentenced to life in prison.
19:37To this day, the true identity of the Monster of Florence remains a mystery.
19:42The Bone Collector of West Mesa
19:45Why does this case remain unsolved after all this time?
19:48On February 2, 2009, the bodies of several women were found buried together.
19:54Most were sex workers and had disappeared between 2001 and 2005.
20:00This terrible find was made by a woman in West Mesa, Albuquerque, New Mexico, who noticed the presence of a human bone when she walked her dog.
20:10After the investigation and excavation, they found 11 corpses, which led the police to believe that it was the work of a serial killer.
20:19I know who killed her and I know who did it, and I know why.
20:24Okay, bye.
20:26Although there are few clues, investigators suspect that the murders could be related to the annual state fair,
20:33which attracts large crowds and sex workers to the area.
20:38The Atlanta Ripper
20:40In 1911, the Atlanta Ripper began its murder streak.
20:45At the end of the year, between 15 and 21 women's deaths were related to the killer or murderers.
20:52All the victims of the Ripper were murdered in the same way, beheaded.
20:57They were all black and 20-year-olds, but it was not until the sixth murder when the police began to consider the possibility of a serial killer.
21:06Some speculate that the lack of clues, as well as the racial prejudices of the time, caused the delay in the investigations.
21:14Although they arrested several men, no charges were presented to courts and the case remains unsolved.
21:21Jack the Naked
21:27This killer appeared and disappeared from the streets of London in the mid-1960s.
21:32He earned the nickname Naked because of his habit of taking off women's clothes before getting rid of them.
21:38His proven victims, as well as two other possible ones, were between 21 and 30 years old
21:44and often had similar paint marks, which was thought to indicate where the killer worked.
21:51However, despite the evidence, no arrests were made.
21:55John DeRose, Superintendent of Scotland Yard, had identified a certain Mungo Ireland as the most likely culprit.
22:03Unfortunately, when a possible relationship with him was established, his life was taken.
22:09The truth about his guilt or innocence died with him.
22:13The Ghost Killer
22:15The murders in the moonlight of Texarkana have given rise to several urban legends and movies.
22:21But in 1946, for the residents of the twin cities of Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas, everything was too real.
22:30The first attack was against Jimmy Hollis and his girlfriend Mary Larry, who had parked their car in an isolated stretch of road known as Lover's Lane.
22:42Does it sound familiar to you?
22:43Both survived, although Hollis suffered head injuries and Larry was attacked.
22:48A month later, another couple was not so lucky.
22:52Three weeks later, two teenagers were shot to death.
22:56Then, a marriage was attacked, but only the husband died.
23:00Hollis and Larry were the ones who gave the most clues about the killer's appearance.
23:05And they stated that he was wearing a white hood.
23:07But when the murders ceased, so did the investigations.
23:11The Annihilating Maid
23:13Occupation. With the exception of the white women, everybody is a servant, three of them are cooks.
23:18Between 1884 and 1885, the inhabitants of Austin, Texas were shocked by an apparently endless chain of brutal murders.
23:28Each one occurred while the victims were in the alleged security of their beds.
23:34The name of the Annihilating Maid was devised by the writer O. Henry, in a letter to a friend in which he said
23:41The city is terribly boring, except for the frequent incursions of the Annihilating Maids, which animate the boring hours of the night.
23:53What a way to talk about a killer with an ax.
23:58The murders ended suddenly on the eve of Christmas 1885.
24:04Some believe that they stopped when he boarded a ship to begin his reign of terror elsewhere.
24:11I promise, I will kill again.
24:17The Oakland County Killer.
24:19The loss of a child is the worst nightmare of any father.
24:23In the course of a year, at the end of the 1970s, two children disappeared in the Oakland County, Michigan.
24:32Their bodies were later discovered in public areas.
24:36They didn't cry until I left them.
24:38These crimes led to the largest murder investigation in the history of the United States until that moment.
24:45Several witnesses appeared, but they did not provide concrete clues.
24:49A witness claimed to have seen one of the boys talk to a man in a blue AMC Gremlin.
24:55Which led the investigators to ask all the owners of Gremlin del Condado.
25:01If he was involved, he should have been in jail and he shouldn't have been out the night Timmy was abducted.
25:06But the questions about the killer or the killers are still unanswered.
25:10Is that good enough for the family? No, it's not.
25:13Charlie Chabuff.
25:15This ruthless killer was known for attacking exclusively African-American children.
25:20And he earned his macabre nickname for the brutal wounds he inflicted on them.
25:24One of his victims survived the attack.
25:27And in 1974, the police arrested a suspect, Erno Soto.
25:32Who was surprised while kidnapping a Puerto Rican child and arrested for questioning.
25:38The surviving child said he thought he looked like his attacker, but he wasn't sure.
25:48Despite confessing one of the murders,
25:51The Manhattan State Hospital, a psychiatric institution where Soto was a patient.
25:56He said he couldn't be guilty, but he did say that it was possible that he would have escaped under his surveillance.
26:05In the 1930s, a serial killer known as the Killer of the Torsos of Cleveland.
26:09He stalked the streets of Ohio, especially the Kingsbury Run neighborhood.
26:16He attacked vulnerable people.
26:18Often those who had no home or worked in the sex industry.
26:22The victims were found dismembered and their torsos were the only recognizable parts that remained.
26:28Between 1934 and 1938, at least 12 victims were discovered.
26:34Although many believe that the real number is much greater.
26:38Out of the 12 official victims, only 2 were ever truly identified.
27:03Who do I think did it?
27:04It was Dr. Francis Edward Sweeney, a skilled surgeon who fell into alcoholism and drug addiction.
27:14You are going to bring out Jack the Ripper.
27:18As one of the most notorious cases in history, this unidentified serial killer
27:23sowed panic in the London district of Whitechapel at the end of the Victorian era.
27:28After discovering a series of horrific murders.
27:32It is difficult to think of another killer who has inspired so many legends, investigations or theories about his identity.
27:39In part because of the extreme brutality of the crimes and the mockery that the criminal sent to the frustrated police,
27:45his name has acquired an almost fabulous appearance.
27:49So, Jack the Ripper isn't just merely killing hordes, he's executing traitors.
27:56The most famous mockery was the letter from hell, which he sent with half a kidney from one of the victims,
28:02because he claimed to have eaten the other half.
28:06Hey, we're not done yet, but almost.

28:15I'm sure you'll like them.
28:17Now, let's go to the end.
28:19The Zodiac Killer
28:21I'm not the Zodiac.
28:23Without a doubt, this is the most slippery killer in the history of the United States,
28:28like something taken out of a Hollywood nightmare.
28:31He was also one of those who wrote letters to the police,
28:34and he did it through puzzles and complex cryptograms.
28:38Presuming his feats and demanding that they be published on the front page of newspapers,
28:43or otherwise, he would increase the number of corpses.
28:47This killer hunted his victims, usually young couples in lonely areas,
28:52before carrying out his work.
28:54The similarities in the work and the physical description have led some to postulate that the Zodiac Killer
29:00and the Ghost Killer could be the same.
29:03Either way, this criminal has left a hideous legacy.
29:14What other serial killers are still free?
