00:00To make the search and rescue teams run faster and more safely, especially in times of emergency,

00:16a robot was built that can teach where to save on the way.

00:21The idea came from the grade 12 students of Manila Science High School.

00:25Come on, let's change the game!

00:31In times of need of a search and rescue operation,

00:39the rescuers have a robot that can guide them on the path.

00:44The waters are hard to reach, especially if there are concrete structures.

00:52Presenting, SLINAM!

00:54Short for Search and Rescue LiDAR Integrated and Autonomous Mapping Robot.

00:58Developed by grade 12 students from Manila Science High School.

01:02The robot is fully automated and can be used to map the area anytime, anywhere.

01:07It can both aid in disaster mitigation so that areas are more prepared in case of a disaster

01:15or to help in search and rescue operations, especially in areas where there's a lot of debris

01:21and it might be a risk for search and rescue teams.

01:25This robot tries to alleviate that problem a bit by giving an idea how the place actually looks.

01:32Less risk for the rescuer once they actually go inside.

01:37The data that can be collected will be sent to the software

01:40where it will alert the rescuers on which paths are passable.

01:45Equipped with LiDAR sensor, the prototype has software for area detection and mapping.

01:50We wanted to challenge ourselves to try this technology which actually in the Philippines is not as explored.

01:57SLINAM was able to save a life.

01:59It was made 3rd place in the Regional Science and Technology Fair last year.

02:04We send this SLINAM and it maps the room where we are now.

02:09Later, it will collect the data.

02:13Once the area mapping is complete, there will be color coding.

02:17The signal, if the area is passable, will be gray.

02:21If it's not possible, the borders will be black.
