00:00I'm going to give you four reasons why I like the Brian Schottenheimer higher.
00:22First of all, a lot of people will tell you that he was never the hot shot coordinator.
00:28Well back when he took Mark Sanchez to two AFC championship games, running the rock,
00:35play action, Sanchez, two playoff games, Brian Schottenheimer was the OC.
00:40That's number one.
00:41Number two, even if you think he's not the hot shot coordinator, you know what the reality
00:47is?
00:48A lot of those guys end up sucking as head coaches because it's a totally different skill
00:54set.
00:55So, you know, game planning and calling plays is not the same as clock management, setting
01:02the culture of the team or everything that goes into being a head coach CEO.
01:07Maybe Brian Schottenheimer was an average coordinator, but he's a great head coach as
01:13opposed to guys that are the opposite, but great coordinators, but they can't make it
01:18as head coaches.
01:19But should we be worried that he's also calling the plays?
01:24That's a fair question.
01:26Let me get to my other two, then I'll get to that.
01:28The other two, I had nine head coaches in the NFL, okay?
01:33His father, Marty Schottenheimer, is the best head coach I've ever been around, okay?
01:40I had Bill Parcells when I was in Dallas, I had Bill Belichick in New England, I had
01:45Joe Gibbs in Washington.
01:47I know that Marty Schottenheimer did not have the success those guys did in terms of winning
01:53Super Bowls or what, I get that.
01:55All I'm telling you is, sitting there as a player, watching what they say to us, watching
02:01how they go about it, Marty Schottenheimer was the best head coach I ever had.
02:05Better than the three Hall of Famers I just named.
02:08And the last thing, maybe the most important thing, the reality is, nobody knows anything.
02:15I mean, you go back to 2016, the guy that was ranked as the worst hire was Doug Peterson.
02:23In 2017, he took the Eagles to their only Super Bowl ever, okay?
02:29And then the next year they went to the Divisional Round, the next year, whatever.
02:33Four years ago, the Eagles hired a guy nobody had heard of.
02:38It was the last guy hired, a guy named Nick Sirianni, who didn't even call the plays for
02:45the Colts.
02:46Frank Reich did, okay?
02:48He's now taken the Eagles to their second Super Bowl in three years.
02:53My point is, the press conference doesn't matter, how much buzz they have when they
02:58get hired doesn't matter.
03:01Nobody really knows.
03:02Everybody likes to act like they do, everybody likes to talk like they do.
03:05Brian Schottenhammer might be awesome, he might be terrible, you don't know until they
03:10actually get in that chair and have that job.
